Yep. I was gonna say, feels like it'd be easy to win any singing competition when you've literally got one of the greatest singers in modern music history as the lead vocalist for your choir.

And speaking for the elder millennials, we all love this movie. Ya down with G-O-D?? Yeah you know me!!
I get the same chills from Ms. Hill that you do...that part starting at 22:00 when we first hear her use her full singing voice is pretty much guaranteed to bring a tear to my eye every time.

The funny part about Rita's mom in this is she's played by Sheryl Lee Ralph, who is an accomplished singer and actress (who's now on Abbott Elementary).

Yes, Whoopi does all of her own singing in these films. The funny thing about the girl who told the Momma joke about Skittles? That is Whoopi's own daughter.
It's so crazy how I was trying to remember who he was throughout the whole video! As many times as I've seen The Green Mile I should've known right away.
Michael Jeter was also in the main cast of Evening Shade back in the day. And won a Tony for his role in Grand Hotel. Highly recommend watching his performance of "We'll Take a Glass Together" on RUclips if you like musical theater at all.
To add to the list of characters he's played, he was Mr. Noodle on Elmo's World, a segment of Sesame Street. Mr. Noodle was the brother of another character also called Mr. Noodle, played by Bill Irwin. (All of the Noodle siblings are Mr./Ms./Miss Noodle.) To say he had incredible range to be able to play such vastly different characters is very much an understatement.

@@awkwardashleigh this movie is OK but I think that the flash from 1990 to 1991 with only 1 season because CBS doesn't want to be the super hero network lucky the cw reboot the flash in 2014 and mark Hamill was cast as the trickster James jesse again but with a different backstory than the comic book version . James jesse was in the comics a circus acrobat family called the flying Jesses which is a rip off of the flying Grayson aka the first Robin aka nightwing aka dick Grayson and James jesse was inspired by reading the story of jesse James the guy who he had a twist on his name but he was afraid of hights and he design elf shoes that made him fly and wearing a circus jester costume and became the trickster . He even did jesse James the famous outlaw stuff but with a twist on a plane in the air . But He is like the flash version of the joker .funny because mark Hamill who played the trickster James jesse when to voice the joker in batman the animated series. Barry Allen flash found James jesse because when he saw the costume he knew that the trickster had to be from a circus and then he saw a circus poster he decided to go and look at the circus and he saw James jesse the trickster as a circus costume acrobat and his elf shoes that the trickster was wearing was on his feet and James jesse had to be the trickster .so flash grabbed a pogo stick and pogo super speed and got him . Mark Hamill version of James jesse in the 90s flash show is a mix of the trickster James jesse from the comics and psycho which you reaction to and hearing voices in his head and his parents never teach him how to date a girl or the lesson of if a girl is not interested in you and you can't win her back though heartfelt discussing then back off respect her wishes and move on . As crazy as he is in this version ,I don't think he heard that and he is too far gone in the head. He is also a escape artist and the cops don't even bother to see or check him to see if he has a key and mark Hamill Luke Skywalker also had James jesse die his hair and wear a trickster costume that is OK but mark Hamill makes it work . He even makes his own car the trickster mobile and his elf shoes that made him fly in the comics is not in this version of the trickster James jesse . He is a Norman bates crazy except for wearing a circus costume and not a dress and a master of disguise. The flash costume was made by a mold cast of the actor's body and sewing machine together and that's it .the guy who did Beetlejuice did this costume . Barry Allen in this show played by John Westley Shipp get the trickster in a contest best flash costume with the cops in the house under cover and the trickster is trapped . The 2014 flash tv show version of the trickster James jesse is not like the 90s trickster James jesse because of the multivers . John Westley Shipp who played Barry Allen flash in the 90s flash show played Barry Allen's dad Henry Allen and Jay Garrett the first flash in the season 2 .Anyway, a guy named axle walker show up and it looks like he's copying James jesse the trickster tricks and at first, it feels like the story from the comics when James jesse found out that axle walker is copying his trickster name and a costume that looks almost similar to his trickster costume and he and axle walker fight between which one of them is the guy who is the trickster . With Barry Allen and his adopted cop dad Joe west going to see James jesse who had been in jail for 30 years and at first he is angry about axle walker stealing his thunder and he tells them to go to his hideout a old props factory or he calls it home and his trickster tricks are gone because axle walker got there first and then he thinks axle took a bomb that would hurt people and the flash and central city police search for the bomb but they find out that it's a trick and the bomb was really a distraction from the fact that axle walker trickster was working for James jesse the trickster and spring James jesse the trickster out of jail with Henry Allen as a kidnapped person and both tricksters have Barry Allen flash dad .Axle walker was texting James jesse from his cell and James jesse get a update costume with his old costume bodysuit in his hideout .axle walker asked why he chose him and James jesse tell him that it was in his blood and he reveals that he is axle walker 's father . Get it it's like your reaction to star wars empire strikes back when Darth Vader said to Luke Skywalker that he was his father . Axle and James go in disguise to a special the mayor was having and the mayor is the same actor from the 90s flash show but in the 90s flash show he was a cop and this version of the character was a bad mayor . Anyway axle walker and James jesse tell everyone that he has poison the drink and flash asked James where Henry Allen is and he and axle put a bomb wrist thing on the flash and it will explode if he stops running and he calls his team and dr wells tell him to vibrate though a wall leaving the bomb on the other side and he does it but thought a gasoline truck .me: he said though a wall not a gas truck. Anyway, he un poison every one and he saved his dad from knifes from a wooden crate that were over his dad head and axle walker and James jesse trickster are going to jail and in season 4 episode had axle walker 's mother aka prank zoe Clark who is played by the same actress who played prank zoe Clark in the 90s flash show with mark Hamill and a rip off of the joker 's partner Harley Quinn . He and prank zoe Clark start by axle walker trickster throw a ball with explode power and cotton candy with acid that burns the skin but not the joker . And James jesse is mentioned but not in the episode . Prank zoe Clark and axle walker decided to give citizens to taste the cotton candy acid but they are stopped by the elongated man aka Ralph dibny who has power to stretch his body like a rubber monkey toys and the trickster music from the 90s flash show played as prank and axle walker were off to jail and we see a version of James jesse the trickster mark Hamill on Jay Garrett 's earth earth 3 and James jesse looks like a mix of the trickster and the joker if they were in a blinder and purple hair and big teeth and sound like the joker and Jay Garrett stops him while catching the bullets in his silver cap helmet with gold wings and Barry saved them from a bomb under the trickster 's coat . The episode called miss the mark mark Hamill voice joker and himself and the trickster and swamp thing a detective comics character so mark Hamill is basically taking to himself as the joker and trickster James jesse check it out .and they reference mark Hamill the voice actor and Luke Skywalker jedi and mark Hamill trickster laugh was simular to the joker until he voice the joker and then he changed his laugh by making the laugh of the joker like a musical instrument and trickster James jesse laugh being like a regular person and mark Hamill did the voice of the hoggoblin like the green goblin but different laugh and rip off and there is a joker rip off called the jester that is a daredevil villan .except we know his back story and not the joker back story.
Another CLASSIC. This movie is on repeat in this home. My 5 yr old nephew watches it and loves the music. He actually loves watching both of the films. But me and my sisters grew up watching these films. - Rita is played by singer Lauryn Hill, former member of The Fugees. - the girl who had trouble singing "Mary Had A Little Lamb" is actress Alana Ubach. She is the voice of Mama Imelda in the movie Coco. I grew up watching her when she was a young girl in an episode of The Torkelsons. Another classic TV show. It is a rare gem. They don't make shows like that anymore. - the other young girl in the film who is seen putting on makeup and trying to look pretty is played by a young Jennifer Love Hewitt. I also grew up watching her. She first started out in the TV show Kids Incorporated. She's obviously known for her other projects like Ghost Whisperer, 9-1-1, The Client List, I Know What You Did Last Summer etc. But she's also a singer as well. She did put out a few albums. My favorite song of hers was "How Do I Deal?" It was for the movie I Know What You Did Last Summer.
This is some minor trivia, but the title “Sister Act” is a pun. Back in the day (from the vaudeville years onward), a “sister act” was a performing group-singers, dancers-made up of biological sisters (often duos, although Judy Garland got her start as part of the Gumm sisters trio; Gumm was Judy’s real last name). So the title of the film is playing on a phrase that would have been familiar to an older generation.
Please consider 1987's "Summer School". Unlike most 80s teen comedies, it's not crass or sleazy, just fun. And young Mark Harmon would definitely make Ashleigh's list of future exhusbands.
Fun Fact: When Ryan Toby hit that high note in "Oh Happy Day," Whoopi Goldberg's reaction was genuine. Up to that point, he had never sung that high note in rehearsals.
It was so great hearing him sing at the reunion. Can’t hit that high note anymore, but I got to say, I find him just as adorable now as I did when I first watched this movie as a kid.
@@oliviarose5030 Our voices change as we get older. I used to have blaring high baritone voice with tenor highlights. Twenty years later, I have this deep rumbly baritone.
Rita's mom insisting her daughter can't be involved in choir because singing doesn't pay the bills or send you to college like this wasn't the 90s when nearly any form of scholarship she could hope to get for college was gonna hinge on whether she did extracurriculars along with studying.
I think she was so terrified of her daughter crashing and burning like her husband that she did everything she could to discourage her from getting anywhere near the music industry (which, to be fair, is very difficult to actually be successful in).
RIP to Michael Jeter that plays the small priest, the math teacher, who played Eduard Delacroix in The Green Mile. He was such a funny actor. Also if you.like these you should check out the plays Nunsense and Numsense 2 starring the lady that played Blanche in The Golden Girls
1. Yes, Whoopie has a tittie tattoo. It’s actually a tattoo of Woodstock from the Peanuts cartoon series. 2. Father Ignatius is played by the amazing actor Michael Jeter who you saw before in the film “The Green Mile”, who passed way too soon. Am extremely gifted actor who was wonderful in comedy films like this and dramas like This Green Mile as well. 3. The actress who plays Rita’s mother is Sheryl Lee Ralph who has recently been given her props for her performance on the TV show “Abbot Elementary” but originally came to fame for her work on the stage as a member of The Dreamgirls Broadway production.
Michael Jeter was also amazing in the role of a homeless cabaret singer in The Fisher King, a Robin Williams film that doesn't get the love and attention it deserves. Jeter is one of those character actors who is wonderful in every one of his roles.
A sequel that is just as funny and enjoyable as the original film, and I am so ready for this one!! Lauryn Hill and Sheryl Lee Ralph were outstanding together! Whether you follow religion (I don't), the music in THIS is just... outstanding!!! And now, how hypocritical, Ralph is out there singing her "shoulda coula woulda"s. How dare she! 🤣🤣🤣
25:43 *Fun Fact:* _No-one_ on set, neither cast nor crew, knew he could hit that top note; it was completely improvised, so _every_ reaction that you see was a genuine, on-the-spot reaction to arguably the most impressive moment of the entire film!
Ahmad, the vocal soloist for "Oh Happy Day" is Ryan Toby. You don't know him, but you are very familiar with him. He wrote many of Usher's greatest hits during his R&B years before Usher went pop/techno. He was also part of a trio that came out in the early 2000's called City High, best known for their hit single, "What Would You Do." "What would you do if your son was at home, crying alone on the bedroom floor, cause he's hungry."
Lauryn Hill is legendary. She was huge back in the day, but left the industry and didn't really take to fame. She's "married" (not officially) to Rohan Marley---son of another legend, Bob Marley.
I've never clicked on a video so fast. This movie taught me so many life lessons. Also, Lauren Hill's the voice of an angel; she brings so much soul and depth to Rita's character.
Has anybody told her what the Ice Capades were yet?? I saw them live twice when I was a little girl. Nowadays people might be more familiar with Stars on Ice or Disney on Ice but Ice Capades will always be it for me.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE! It's a childhood classic. This was a constant for movie days in middle school and we loved it every single time. It's EVERYTHING! Also, it is very 90s, girl. This will always and forever be my favorite of the two Sister Act films.
I think the movie was supposed to make the kids look inexperienced so that they could be taught. Everything was on purpose. Lauryn Hill was already a singer she played the girl that dropped out. She sings: Killing Me Softly - she was in the band the Fugees. And, the girl that plays Maria - the one that doesn't know Mary has a little lamb is later in - Legally Blonde 1 and 2 as Serena who's real name is Alanna Ubach.
Btw Ashleigh the title Back in the Habit is because the nun head wear is called a habit. So you missed the perfect opportunity at 5:40 to say 'she's gotta get back in the habit'
sister mary lazarus is played by Mary Wickes who was the housekeeper in White Christmas. Also during filming they went to the hotel wearing their habits, put on some porn on TV and then ordered room service, to see the reaction of the servers seeing nuns watching hardcore porn.
I mean that's basically what we did in high school marching band. Band class was a first hour class and we'd show up around 6am to start practice till 8am and on occasion after school. Every year school started band started three weeks prior so we could get the freshmen trained in marching and get the first football game music down. Every four years the band would go to Disney World to perform and we'd do the same band schedule plus Saturdays for 6 weeks.
I'm thinking "Heathers" for a next reaction, or soon, since Shannen Doherty just passed, as a tribute. And also, it's free to watch with ads on RUclips right now.
To be fair regarding Rita, she skipped choir class because of her mother. That’s why she spearheaded the unruly behavior in class because she knew her mom disapproved her being in choir.
1:49 That credit there? Bill Duke? That’s Mac from Predator, Cooke ("this green beret’s gonna kick your ass") from Commando. THAT guy. My favorite fact about this movie, akin to finding out that horror master Junjt Ito is an agressively regular dude who draws cat comics for his wife.

'Crispy' was played by James Coburn who starred in action, comedy spy adventure in the 60s, 'Our Man Flint' and 'In Like Flint'. Austin Powers had taken some elements from those films such as the watch alarm.
To the point where, in one of the Austin Powers movies, In Like Flint is on the TV (I think it's at the beginning of the second one when he and Vanessa are on their honeymoon?) and he says, "Oh, In Like Flint, my favorite movie!"

Wolfgang is played by german TV Showmaster and Presenter Thomas Gottschalk who used to host a very famous TV game show in germany where celebrities had to wager if a contestant could pull of what they claimed to be able to or not and if the celebrity was wrong, they had to do something for charity. back in the 80s and 90s those things were actually still cool like spending a day on a public market selling vegetables and then donating the money they made to charity and stuff like that but in the final years of the show the things they had to do were super lame in-studio things. Still Gottschalk made lots of friends in Hollywood over the years and his friendship to Whoopi was what got him this role in the film.
Rita’s mom was played by Sheryl Lee Ralph Barbara Howard from Abbott Elementary among other things Jennifer Love Hewitt from 9-1-1 among other things and u gotta listen to Lauryn Hill from her solo career and when she was in the Fugees (this has probably been mentioned theres so many comments)
I actually saw this before the first Sister Act movie, and I have to say, I kind of like this one better. Yes, there are bits that are cheesy (and it is very, VERY early 90s), but it's also a lot of fun. And it has those truly phenomenal renditions of Oh Happy Day and Joyful, Joyful. Who ISN'T a songwriter/music producer. The half that do have EGOTs are usually in the music area. Whoopi, who can sing, won her Grammy for comedy, not music, so it's a nice combo of talent she has.
Not Asheigh being annoyed by those damn teenagers and their crazy slang and angst! LMAO. I am imagining you opening your front door and yelling "Get off my lawn!." Welcome to the other side Ashleigh!
She turned 30 and said "f*ck them kids" XD (I'm joking for anyone who's about to get bent out of shape over that)
The little white girl with the big hair was Jennifer Love Hewitt if you know who that is and didn't recognize her.
Yes she was in Kids INC and Ghost Whisper

I love how she has no idea that's Lauryn Hill and she's just letting Rita have it. Can't wait til she hears her sing.
Rita wasn’t skipping school, she dropped choir.
To be honest, Ashleigh did not understand many of the nuances of the film. No shade, just truth.
I remember thinking she was missing school also when I was younger

That. That was a lot.
Wolfgang is played by German Showmaster Thomas Gottschalk.
Whoopi lost a bet in his show and offered a small role in Sister Act 2.
When Jamaal goes into his falsetto, that was worth it. The music, as with the original, is a supporting character in its own right.
"Ball of confusion" is the song you didn't know around 18mins

I love love love this movie! One of the best sequels ever! Those kids are so talented!
The high note the one student sings when walking down the aisle wasn't told to the cast so all the reactions were all real
"Father Whats-his-T!ts"! 😁😆🤣
I do so love your turns of phrase, Ashleigh. And it's a real treat to hear you sing!
Fun Fact: No one knew Ryan Toby (Ahmal) could hit a note like that. They caught everyone's genuine reaction on film.
"Do you smell trouble or do you smell children" 😂 clocked the hocus pocus reference
Please consider 1987's "Summer School". Unlike most 80s teen comedies, it's not crass or sleazy, just fun. And young Mark Harmon would definitely make Ashleigh's list of future exhusbands.
YES! Nobody ever knows what I’m talking about when I bring up this movie.
If I had a dollar for every time Kathy Najimy taught sex ed in media, I'd have two dollars. 😂
Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice! 😂
Fun Fact: When Ryan Toby hit that high note in "Oh Happy Day," Whoopi Goldberg's reaction was genuine. Up to that point, he had never sung that high note in rehearsals.
@@ficialintelligence1869 possibly the most memorable moment of the film, and incredible whistle note.
It was so great hearing him sing at the reunion. Can’t hit that high note anymore, but I got to say, I find him just as adorable now as I did when I first watched this movie as a kid.
He went on to be in a group called City High and has written songs for artists such as Usher and Will Smith
Nah, that's just a myth - almost all the songs in the movie were pre-recorded, so they'd be performing their takes to playback
He was also in the The Fisher King with Robin Williams. Seconding watching Nunsense, a very entertaining show

6:48 that's James Coburn. He was a prolific actor back in the day. You can tell how advanced his arthritis was in this movie.
He was a bona fide cinema legend.
@@singbluesilver1973 yes, he was. He earned every bit of it.
I'm not religious, but I LOVE this movie
Same. I was never big on hymns either but this movie made them fun.
Has anybody told her what the Ice Capades were yet?? I saw them live twice when I was a little girl. Nowadays people might be more familiar with Stars on Ice or Disney on Ice but Ice Capades will always be it for me.
Art by design is right!!! She grew up to become a famous singer and soul artist! MIND BLOWN!!!
Yes. I love the movie "Heathers" RIP Shannon ❤😢
We have now reached a time when people no longer know Lauryn Hill.

Rita played by the amazing singer Lauren Hill. Westley Glen is played by the singer (from the group City High) Ryan Toby (you may know the song “What Would You Do”, if not you should listen to it.)
I love Tommy
I don’t know if if anyone else suggested it but because of Shannon Doherty’s death It could be a cool idea for you to react to Heathers!

The actor who takes Whoopi to her classroom is Michael Jeter, a well known Broadway actor who also played "Mr. Noodle's brother, Mr. Noodle" on the "Elmo's World" segments on Sesame Street. The other Mr. Noodle was played by Bill Irwin, another comedic actor, who is the dad in "Rachel Getting Married," Cary Loudermilk in the FX X-Men adjacent TV series "Legion," and was in the dance comedy "Stepping Out" opposite Liza Minelli.
