If there's politics in a game because that's the setting of the game, then that's fine. Something like a cold war spy thriller will have politics. People are rejecting the artificial insertion of politics (especially wokeness) in games.
Indeed. If your making something with medieval setting, modern politics don't need to be forced in. You can explore the dynamics of medieval politics in that ecosystem to tell an interesting story. Funny enough... at one point in medieval history, if you accused a woman of witchcraft... You would be burned at the stake because belief in supernatural powers outside of God was heresy. You could definitely see something fun done with that.

They get free copies of games, ahead of the games release. They are in no way customers. Even if they buy the games? They are not customers. Since any reviewer worth a damn, is writing off the expense and is thusly at the very least partially compensated for their purchase. So not a consumer, or customer. There's a difference between having politics within the world that is built within the game and making "on the nose", real-world political commentary which pulls the player out of the game world by shattering the player's suspension of disbelief; big difference. It's ththe perfect example of "false equivalence". It's a damn shame that so many people who make decisions on these games, simply don't see or understand the distinction between the two.
No gaming company needs social media, at all. The opinions expressed don’t represent the general audience and the expense of operating social media doesn’t pay for itself in additional sales. If gaming companies actually cared about their games and the audience that is playing them, the company would simply direct message and ask the opinion of the people who are actually buying and playing their games. It is just that simple, but then again, this requires that you care about the people for which you serve.
7:28 Funny how AAA games started failing the moment Blackrock's funding started dropping. Almost like they were propped up. Food for thought I suppose.
Keep CURRENT YEAR politics out of gaming. They always intentionally leave that part out so they can accuse people of hypocrisy when other games with fictional or historic politics do way better. Like when they accuse any movie, show or game with minority or female leads as woke, when actually everyone can smell the difference between normal characters and soulless vessels used to deliver specific political views with zero irony or awareness. Dustborne and Concord being the most obvious example.
Y'know the most direct and explicit point here is that all these games commonly highlighted as being political weren't made with DEI aid, there was just the plainly-hired talent to to fit roles and understood that their creative leads were the ones with the vision and pull. Editors have always existed but they looked for quality control and avoidance of more obvious problems that would get the project in trouble through controversy or non-favorability to the consumer. They already want to succeed and make the best thing they can, DEI as an entity is a parasite to genuine creative endeavors that sticks out like a sore thumb. It's definitely not an own to point to a game with its core themes existing already independent of you, especially when you're being cut loose and devalued for further shaping the content. Hopefully the extortion (incentivized as it is, robbed of taxpayers) stops being viable and activists infiltrating media start getting held to scrutiny at actually performing a function competitively.
A game can have a political narrative that is part of the world building lore. That doesn't mean you are to integrate current day modern politics into it if it doesn't work. If the world building has empires and kings/nobility, then don't push democracy into it.
@ literally the ones for Elden ring, dnd(the non woke server go to the woke server and it’s a nightmare) warhammer rogue traders, and the ones for marvel rivals.
There’s a big difference between the politics in games like Hell Divers & Bioshock vs DEI games. It’s organic and it’s not modern day politics. We’re not being preached at in our favorite games.
I think I heard it best from Dev before he became discount Vaush, "the answer was not we don't want politics in our videogames, the response should have been we want our politics to be in our games" (paraphrased btw) the problem is not that there is politics in videogames, the problem is that there is only the point of view of one side in AAA gaming. I want to play a game where I am the bad guy, where I am playing as an irredeemable war criminal who is unquestionably in the wrong and I feel that I am not wrong for wanting that. When I saw a modern Syndicate game I was so excited, I had only played the version my dad had in his basement, I was incredibly disappointed when I found out it was a bland FPS with a cliche 'rebel vs corporation' storyline. We don't get games like Syndicate anymore, there's always some message about how we were obviously fighting for the wrong side and that we totally didn't know that because we're stupid or something. Sorry for venting here.
To live service game investors, is this worth it? This adds risk to your investment. 1st, make a list of all the things that adds risk to your investment. 2nd, don't do them. Why is that so hard.
If you are making decisions based on race or sex, that is racist or sexist no matter who's doing it. Equal opportunity is how you reach organic diversity. Anything else is bigotry.
Helldivers has more diversity than any game. You don't know what's under those helmets. It's Schrödinger's diversity. You don't know what you got til you get dismembered.
We know they have male and females under there with the voice and we know that the skin color randomizes with the Viper Commando armor sets that show off the physique of the character models. And of course all of them bleed red when they get dismembered. Sounds diverse enough.
That's a stupid excuse. Given early armor sets, Lean and Brawny were meant to be female and male given how they were changed for each. Nothing will get better if you people keep falling for stupid shit like this. We always get so close to winning, to putting things back the way they were, but then you give up because it's suddenly, "good enough!"

Game Journos really have nothing in their lives...
Im playing the add on to AC4, you play as Adewale (black character) sailing the seas, rescuing slaves and ultimately killing the slave owner. Its a good story, its fun game playing and shows slavery. There is no lectures about slavery being bad in the game, there is no DEI, its just tell s the story in the time its set. Now if they made that game today there will be constant lectures from characters telling you why slavery is bad and if your white its your problem etc etc. You can tell these stories and get your point across in the right way but these lefty woke creators dont understand subtlety, they dont have the skills or the talent to do it so they will sit you down in the game and lecture you same as what they did with trans stuff in Dragon Age.

Game developers need to learn that journos rarely ever speak for gamers.
rarely? When have they spoken for gamers? Last time I remember them doing it, they were still selling physically printed magazines.
@@lareolanKFP Sometimes I or Axem share on Ebonlore guild sites, not exactly journos, but many game companies like Sony, Bethesda, Activision, EA, Ubisoft, or others used to have the good sense to listen. I don't think their woke because they haven't fired their CM's. I think they're idiots because they haven't fired their CM's.
They have repeatedly caused so many issues, burned so many bridges, and lost the company so so much money I genuinely don't know how they still have a job.
The irony is that one of the guys who made the game, would get banned from its own discord server.

I once responded to a post about whether or not Star Trek was woke by saying that telling a parable and being woke were two different things and got a heart emoji from Brent Spiner.
A good choice on their part. I sure hope they reach out to their community managers to keep them in line.
Here's the thing. We don't LIKE people like Homelander but we like WATCHING them. See the difference, "media literates"? We NEED cautionary tales. We WANT cautionary tales. We even grow fond of good villains (Alan Rickman springs to mind).
EVERYTHING cannot be your sanitized safe-zone, wokies. The more you deprive us of vicarious assholery, the more we'll want it... Or was that your goal all along?
3:15 Political Themes and Identity Politics are not the same shit, one can be done fairly and balanced and can be done in make believe setting for games the other cannot.
Wonder if these community managers were hired by Sony... either way, you can rest easy in the fact that the CMs are probably big mad about what Piles said.
FWIW the Vice article was written by Dwayne Jenkins, a managing editor who started Oct 2024 and has only been in this field for maybe 2 years based on his linkedin.

No they didn't, its all talk for PR.
Until they clean house of their discord/reddit (one in the same at this point)mods, its just talk.
Purely a move to keep the players around.
So because something that has NOTHING to do with the game itself hasn't been cleared out...that must mean that their comments about the game itself must be lies, despite the games and the discord community have nothing to do with each other.
....well that's sound logic. *sarcasm*
They have no power over the reddit board. That's an independently run thing. I'm pretty sure there isn't a SINGLE game studio in charge of any 'official' reddit board. Demanding they clean out on something they literally did not make is the most retarded thing I've seen demanded.
The discord is another issue and there they should hire on different people. Still Twinbeard proves that even that position is outsourced to a third party team since he left because his contract was up. He was the best CM but even he wasn't part of Arrowhead proper.
@TechLeafRanger , they are an infection and will spread unless removed. It doesn't have anything to do with the game FOR NOW, but guess what chucklefuck, the slippery slope was real. And it happens because of this.

Nah, I don't trust Arrowhead after what they and Sony tried to do with the PSN and Region Lock.
Know who should care about Journos being unhappy?
No one.
Not a single god damn soul.
No one should care if a video game journo is upset, unhappy of feeling a way.
They get free copies of games, ahead of the games release. They are in no way customers.
Even if they buy the games? They are not customers. Since any reviewer worth a damn, is writing off the expense and is thusly at the very least partially compensated for their purchase.
So not a consumer, or customer.
This is precisely why no one should care what they think or feel. They do not represent anyone or their interests, but their own and DISTINCTLY not on the side of the consumer.
I wonder if they'll ever figure out that one of the key reasons they don't get the traction they need to thrive is they need to NOT come off as unhinged, politically driven, combative sociopaths?
Not surprised about the game journos since many of em aren't really gamers, but failed mainstream journos who's in gaming journalism because they have no where else to go.

The first time I heard the phrase "terminally online" was from Sean the audio engineer on the TDS podcast.
That headline ‘I’m still trying to grapple..’ is such a pearl clutching statement. It’s good that leaders are now finally speaking up. Love him or loath him, this is the Trump influence, his ripple effect is unmatched.
These people need to be put into a rubber room. Do they seriously not understand that HD2 is satire and not meant to be a “message” or anything to be taken seriously? Everything has to be a “message” with them. It’s a fun game. No one wants their woke bs injected into it.

Now, now, they can’t put their ideology in a game have it be subtle. That would miss the point. No, you gotta have the *right* message in your face at all times just so you don’t think differently. *They don’t want someone that thinks critically. How else is an ideology based on nonsense and lies supposed to thrive?*
Any sentence that has 'media literacy' in it should invalidate an entire paragraph.
"Terminally online" existed since IRC.
This is the best decision made this far
7:28 Funny how AAA games started failing the moment Blackrock's funding started dropping. Almost like they were propped up.
Food for thought I suppose.
I was wondering why Omens of Tyranny was hitting so the right spots so hard.
I think it's funny how that writer admits he's wrong but tries to argue his point anyway
Until they remove the hostile activist moderators from the Discord server his words mean nothing.
Is that Carol Baskinator or whatever her name is, is she still employed as community manager?
I just bought Helldivers 2. Thanks for finally making my mind up, Mr. Creative Director. 😂 (real talk, I did just buy it).
They don’t get my cash until they start doing something about their power tripping woke mods
When have the mods for official game forums ever NOT been power-tripping and insufferable?
Im a discord member at Helldivers2 and can confirm, Chos diver for life now.
How is it bootleg? When it is straight up, just starship.Troopers, it's the same universe, it's the same story
The devs are saying one thing but their community managers are doing the opposite.
They are just playing both sides
Also when watching the actions of some helldivers, we know that recruitment is diverse enough to include brain damaged recruits.

They can't drop DEI unless they were on board with it to begin with. The devs have been playing both sides from the beginning and still are, don't believe them until they fire their mods and take meaningful action. Right now it's all talk.
Helldivers will never get rid of DEI. Destruction, Explosions, and Incineration are too central to the game.
