    Wow...This is one of those ..."Now why didn't I think of that..!! I like it. We have a 16' x 32' above ground pool but, like most pools, it came with a rather cheap and thin cover that is hard to put on and tie down. With your system, you can easily put the covers back on the pool after swimming...nice..!! Thanks....

    This is ingenious! I have a solar cover but it was so painful to put on and clean. I think will cut it up to make something like this instead.

    Love your idea! It gets windy during the summer and early fall in Bay Area California, it will definitely help to keep the bubble blanket in place and no more hand rolling the blanket!

    I have a 16 ft round pool. I wondered if I could do this in 4"s like pie slices? What keeps it a float? Is it the bubble stuff or?

    Hey there, curious how these panels hold up to strong winds. Thinking of doing this to my pool to close up for the winter. Clever idea btw, nice work. Thanks for any info.

      jddacanay89 Hi there
      Thanks for the positive feedback. The panels are now almost one year old and have been through one complete seasonal cycle in the south Atlantic coastal area near Cape Town, South Africa. They are permanently on the pool and removed only for swimming. Even during severe winter storms with winds occasionally in excess of 70 km/h they did not lift up as the water surface tension kept the light weight panels “sucked” to the pool. With our current severe draught and high temperatures ( in the high Thirties Centigrade ) the panels made a massive difference to maintaining the water level in the 50 000 liter pool.

    Does this help with falling leaves and debris? I’m guessing as long as we remove the covers from time to time as they load with debris, they will not sink under the weight?

    Hi. What’s the advantage of this compared to the reel system? My pool is 28x40 kidney shaped and I’m wondering if this will work? Thanks for the tips and great video

    • @xploredeeper9027
      @xploredeeper9027 3 года назад

      Hi there, for kidney shape you will have to make some other plan, depending on the size of the curves. A rectangular reel system that covers the pool and some of the non-pool area should work - but so would panels lying over pool and some solid ground. Why not?

      Thanks for your positive comment. In our country you buy the blue bubble plastic in just about any hardware store. It is not expensive and lasts a good 4 to 5 years in Cape Town's hot Summers and stormy & rainy winters. Easy to replace. - I also have started a YTube channel as ' Coffee with Dietmar ', if you are interested. Not commercial. Not trying to sell you anything. Just experimenting.....

    I suggest u must put a centre piece in the middle to strengthen the pipe structure

    • @dietmarwinzker9335
      @dietmarwinzker9335  Год назад

      Was not necessary as each panel floats. You could but a central connector between the long PVC pipes for easier handling when you take them out for occasional cleaning

    Hi i have a "L shape" pool what would be the best cover to buy the size is roughly 15' by 30 then L's out to a 8' x 8' at one corner ?

  • @patriot5548
    @patriot5548 2 года назад

    BRILLIANT!! When you used your cable ties, I guess you have to cut a slit in the cover, however I was thinking about adding plastic grommets to attach the ties. Do you have an issue with the cover tearing at the cut line?

    • @xploredeeper9027
      @xploredeeper9027 2 года назад

      Hi thanks for your comment and question. No I did not use grommets but a Made a simple slit by pushing the scissors through the plastic. It only needs a brief "pinch or push" and the cable tie is through. When you fastened it it stays there almost for keeps. After about 4 years I stripped the plastic and cut the fasteners as the plastic does get eaten by the Cape Townian Sun and so redid it in about one Saturday. Good for at least another 4 years.

      @@xploredeeper9027 Thank you for your reply. I ordered a new pool blanket yesterday and we are going to get the pvc etc. today. I will not do the grommets then since you have had such good luck with it. I was considering putting a handle on the long sides for easy grabbing and then put the panels on the patio wall when not in use. This is really an answer to a huge issue for us, we don't have the room for a reel but we heat our pool, we are in Florida, but we also have a screened in pool cage and the pool does not get sun due to the type of screening, it's UV. I am excited to get started. Any hints to make it easier? How much did you roll the blanket on the frame?

    Wanting to do this with my pool - but where did you get 16' long PVC piping??

    • @dietmarwinzker9335
      @dietmarwinzker9335  Год назад

      The Pool is about 7m x 4m, or roughly 21' x 12'. BUT the 7 panels have some gaps next to each other and of course slightly narrower to fit.

    great diy. dont you get water evapuration between the panels? and i have a standard clear bubble wrap roll. will it be effective in saving on chemicals?

    • @dietmarwinzker9335
      @dietmarwinzker9335  3 года назад +2

      The evaporation between the panels is there of course but it is a small fraction of the total exposed pool area. I have a salt water pool which produces the chlorine from the salt electronically. Had a chemical pool for years - its like looking after a little baby. Salt Water Pools are much much much better in terms of super little maintenance. The bubble plastic works well for about 3 years thereafter replace with new cable ties and you have another three years.

      Great. And will a standard clear bubble wrap work? Or it should be a thick PVC blue ?

    • @xploredeeper9027
      @xploredeeper9027 3 года назад

      @@moshebar-gil5568 The Standard clear bubbles are more for packaging in this country. I think they may be a bit "flimsy". The PVC blue bubble sheets (on a roll) are stronger and that's what I use.

    Where did you buy bubble plastic? Is that a solar cover for a pool?

    • @dietmarwinzker9335
      @dietmarwinzker9335  Год назад

      It has nothing to do with solar cover if you mean energy transfer. It is simply "bubble plastic" off a roll.

    What type of ties are best since the sun and chlorine will destroy the normal ties after awhile?

    • @xploredeeper9027
      @xploredeeper9027 3 года назад

      Thermo Plastics will always be prone to deteriorate in a chlorine environment . Every 3 - 4 years you might have to replace the bubble plastic - then you have to replace the cable ties anyway. Not a big issue.

    Hey there! Awesome idea, I've been looking for something like this to do to my pool.
    One quick question, my pool is 6 m long by 2.5 m wide. In your experience, do you think it is possible to make one big panel? Or is it too heavy and uncomfortable to move?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards, from Argentina

    • @dietmarwinzker9335
      @dietmarwinzker9335  5 лет назад +3

      Thanks for looking at my "Pool Effort" As to your question, It is so much easier to make 4 panels say 1,5 x 2,5. It will be easier to move them, stack them and repair one if it gets damaged. Mine are almost 2 years old and are doing their job just great. Survived two very stormy Cape of Good Hope winter storms and were always on the pool - except when we were swimming of course!
      Enjoy!
