This is the first, and most overlooked, animated series from the award-winning creative team of Chris Prynoski and George Krstic.
This critically acclaimed, reality-based, animated series follows the lives of Alex and Chaka, a brother and sister pair of polar opposites, as well as their East Village friends. A funny, trippy and often surreal take on modern life in the city, Downtown portrays the intersecting lives of a group of diverse characters who live, work, and play in the greatest town in the world - NYC.

This show and Daria are like cultural timecapsules. It's cool seeing how teens back then acted so much like teens do now, yet we're still so different.
Kinda miss teen/young adult shows animated shows that really take a comedic but realistic aproach to someone in there mid/late 20s questioning there purpose/failed potential and working a dead end job

@@matthew.madulii genuinely feel like times are getting worse and because of that, shows are aiming to take a less realistic approach on everyday life. instead of having relatable things, shows are treated like escapes. thats just a thought though.

I get that this is still enjoyable in the modern day but i still dont think its the kind of thing that could ever be produced nowadays. Its just so,,, of its time. And that was a very different time, whether u want to admit it or not. It just could never be done well, and even if there was a reboot and it was good, it wouldn't have the same charm as the original.

Having a quarter-life crisis in 2023. Character dynamics and the friend circles are still pretty relatable in this day, albeit their differences in experience. Such a dope show

Alex is 24! And that's why he's so frustrated that he's still a virgin and in spite of his booksmarts his career hasn't panned out the way he thought it would. He's also not really cut out for the corporate world. I could actually see him as being a pretty decent teacher of sorts. He's got to find and work for something that he believes in but he hasn't found it yet. So for now, he's working for the asshole but not for THE MAN. Alex is a cool dude !

This show is such a great timecapsule of the 90s, funny how fashion has gone full circle and their style is very on trend, also how much things have changed with time, like how dorky in the 90s is now cool and hip, also Jen was cool in the 90s to be so cynical but nowadays she can be seen as a cynical pick-me who keeps others down so they rely on her for acceptabce.
Im glad this show is made the way it is, and to all yhe comments about a reboot i wish they dont go the netflix route and start “deconstructing” everyone and giving everyone some kinda deep backstory with redemption arcs. Just fun quippy natural one liners and situations about life and urban living.
A reboot would be cringe. Guarantee it would be wall to wall identity politics and nothing else.

And I don't know if I'd want to see a reboot of this show. The show had a unique charm to it, a very lightning in the bottle type of deal and I feel like any attempt at trying to reboot it will have a high chance of failing...

i love this show, its like a mixture of daria ,, i just like how tue voice actors doesn’t force their voices, and it sounds like they are having a genuine conversation. I knew about this show for a few months now but i did not know i could watch it on youtube and i’ve been binge watching it! i love how all the characters have different personalities and go on different adventures and have their own situations going on like real teenagers. Especially in new york, it shows the realness in reality of how teens used to be back then,, and i wish i was a teen back in the 1990s-2000s because it wouldve been very fun!! i love this show so much its just so nostalgic

Yep, she's such a Debby downer. Insecurity is her personality, I wish she grew up and turned into a confident woman.
I feel like the episode wasn't a total bore. When Alex goes to the job interview and envisions what his life would be like as an assistant manager working in such a corporate environment and learning that the doesn't want to be in that kind of environment is relatable to some.

At 19:46 Jen is waiting impatiently for Alex but is reading to keep herself busy. and next to her is an award that says number 1 boss.😭 Which means 9/10, whenever Jen is mean to Alex she feels bad but tries to play it off without apologizing (she clearly likes him but is putting this mask to be friends with Alex, but sometimes fails like in this episode) I think she was gonna give it to Alex, as a way of saying sorry.😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😂😂
