Knuckle bust into chainrings are horrible. Still the worst knuckle bust I did was in the shop back in 1996 on a Vector 2 fork. Scar is prominently visible on my hand.
Links to the tools please. I just replaced my old RF cranks with some Shimano XTRs that I found on sale but I’ll be replacing the chain ring since I won’t be using a 12x Shimano drivetrain and it’s going to be on my SS Mtn bike
There's a very thin clear plastic ring (dirt seal?) Between the XT chainring and right crankarm. Couldn't see if you Kept this in place for the third party chainring. Seems logical to keep it in place if you don't have a new one, but just wanted to get your opinion.. keep or remove When installing a third party chainring (ie: Abs Black)
I just got a specialized rockhopper. Its got a 30 tooth chain ring and 11-50 tooth cassette. It is slooow. I haven't owned a mountain bike in 20 years and I climbed an 8% grade in 5th gear after pedaling for 3 and 1/2 miles. Lol. How many teeth do you think I should increase to on the chain ring? I'm mainly gonna be riding on rail trails.
Thinking of doing this to change the gear ratio on my 1x. Are there any tricks with regards the narrow wide chainring? Does the chain have to be put on in any special way? Thx
Can't you use the BB tool directly on the chainring nut? Is it because they don't have the same diameter / number of teeth? Or is it because the offset of the chainring won't let you?
Outstanding - no bullshit, pure information and extremely well explained thank you.
I definitely looked at this slx crank and didn't see it was asymmetrical for at least 29 minutes . Thank you
I would use thread lock on that lock ring and the Wolf Tooth chainring will probably last longer than the Shimano.. thanks for this informative vid.

Very Interesting. I've never needed to do this, but it's good to know how. Thank you.

Would be nice to know the number of teeth on the bb wrench? Good video for sure!
Looks fairly complicated. I have SRAM force 1x and I'd like to go from the stock 40t to something like 36t. This looks like something for the LBS.

No tricks. The chain can really go on way
Your hands stayed clean after handling the chain. Is that a hot waxed chain?

Both in my case
that was great, thank you!
Saucy! Thank you for this vid.
Do you need to adjust the chain lenght if you are going from a 32 to a 30T?
Unlikely, unless you’re already at the longer end
Why cant you use the centre lock tool ?
That's for rotors
@@CristianValenzuela2155 ik but isnt the fitting same?
the chainring lock ring is deeper set, so a flat center lock tool won’t reach
At least in my case
Did we forgot to grease the splines and nut? Page 2:50
Lock ring is greased, splines don’t need it
@@TheBikeSaucedo we want to keep dirt and sand get into creek between splines of chainring by grease?
I don’t follow
