I would get right on it not that keeping an eye on it is a bad idea but a quick gasket job and you're back in business.

Hi Your primary clutch cover plate is probably warped from heat ..its pretty normal over time ..by a new o ring, level your bike and use gasket sealer to close up the plate ..done this many times..

I’ll remember this in case it starts leaking again. But currently it’s not leaking. Appreciate it. Cheers. 👍😉

That Derby cover will not warp. Where did you get that idea.

Keeping my fingers crossed that the oil leak is stopped. Am not familiar with twin cams. If you have a rubber gasket for your primary cover you should be able to use it more then once. Cork is a different animal. They flatten and crack get compressed and in general you have to replace them. On my shovel am running a belt primary. It might be a option on yours in the future. Have you heard the joke? Why are Harley's like old hound dogs? They both mark their spot and love to ride in the back of pickup trucks. When your in need of parts check out J & P Cycle. There prices are much more reasonable. Keep the rubber side down.

Timothy Putzke I love j&p. I laughed so hard. I haven’t heard that one. Thanks for tolerating my complaining, I’m just trying to save some money (what else is new), and have had some top notch wonderful mechanics in the past , primarily on my ‘68 mustang, that spoiled me I guess. I would give my left pinky finger to have a real good motorcycle mechanic close by for the big stuff. And that would let me watch him work, and explain stuff as he goes. That would be the best. There’s a need for independent shops, that can provide good reliable, trustworthy service, in a friendly and personal way. Or maybe I’m just stuck in 1985. Idk. 😆👍

    Good video,
You have a twin cam, right, primary cover seal is rubber on mine and 17 yrs old looks like new when inspecting.
Why he replaced yours I dont know ?
I believe that cardboard seal is the new universal one from harley so right part most likely.
Primary drain bolt should have a o ring or something ?
Most new mechanics are not working on twin cams anymore. The younger guys are idiots with twin cam motors these days, I have to do all my own services.
I would check the torque settings on all my primary cover bolts and the derby cover, it is a harley lots of vibration
    And things come lose.
Then ride it to see if she still leaks but thats probably all it is your primary cover bolts rattling lose, you'll be fine. Ride On 🤙👊👍

Jere Cannata well I checked them first, and the two primary bolts below. Oh well, doesn’t appear to leak anymore. 👍

So it was the screws holding the primary cover on just vibrated loose. Had that problem before so I put a bit of lock tight on them

Harley cruiser strange thing is they had lock tight, and seemed tightened. Who cares, bike is running great!! 🙏

Why? Why do Harley Davidson Motorcycles consistently leak oil. Why?

    • @simplybiking
      @simplybiking  4 года назад

1ststater they have come a long way in that regard, from the 70’s. But I guess some things never change, that much. Hahaha. I’m just glad, it’s shifting better with oil at a good level, it’s not leaking anymore, and I didn’t blow $200 on a shop fee. All good! 😁👍🔧
