I have stayed in Thai resorts that are just like your home here. Places for Thai people. Farangs wouldn't know there were such places to find. Like rural motels that you have to drive up a dirt track to get to and surrounded by HUGE houseplants. Sometimes with lakes and good lighting and so natural.
Drivers use them when on the road working or whatever and couples use them for secret meetings. They are Thai places.
I love them. I found a resort tucked away in a beautiful palm tree jungle. Terracotta in palm green in the middle of nowhere. Good rooms with air and all. I stayed in it for a year.
They average between 300 - 400 Baht per night. Tourist areas charge so much more! I got it month up front for 250 Baht per day. No bills and maid service. The maid and me became friends.
I got very sick of the tourist trail. Talk about too much of a good thing. I don't even go to beaches any more. I love the nature.

The problem is that all our time is spent getting the house ready for retirement, so I don’t have time to travel around Isaan. In the future, I plan to make some videos of great, off-the-beaten-track locations.

Nong Kai is pleasant. You are near. It's the last Thai place before Laos. It has the bridge connecting to Loas.
It has the big Mekhong river and you can look at Laos. Nice riverside bars and restaurants.

He will probably want a bit more cash to do that gate job. But hey, still is a bargain and a great real Thailand experience.
Oh, the neighbours don't have to come back if they don't feel like it. Chill out man (😅joke)

She's a bright kid! Good for her to know you. For you too.
Your accent's not too bad I suppose. I've heard much worse accents. Especially Thais, whose teachers of english have had a strong native accent. Some backstreet schools in Bangkok are short staffed enough to care not where they get teachers from. Yet still they give them low wages and long hot hours involving traveling from one side of bangkok to another. To me, Bangkok is more like a nation than a city.
Bangkok is literally sinking you know.

Yeah, seen a documentary on Bangkok. Very interesting how it’s slowly sinking into the earth. Some parts are completely underwater.
