I just came to know the Samoan settlement in wailekutu by watching this ♥️ this is so heartwarming realising how they've lived over the yrs. Hope to see this Settlement developed more just like any settlement or suburbs in Fiji..we are all citizens of Fiji and this is our home..God Bless ♥️

I served my mission in Fiji in the early 90s and I met some of this Samoan community who are members of the LDS church there in Lami. There were also some other Samoan families around the Samabula area who had been there for generations. I love and miss Fiji. The ika vakalolo with pele leaf and dalo. Indian curry and Indian sweets at the market LOL. Isa Viti!!

I didn't know about this Samoan Community at Wailekutu until I happened upon this video by accident. I feel that they should revive their language, culture, traditions, music and dance. Be proud of who you are. Talofa lava
Good to see you Lei and Susan..Still remember you from our USP days. Met two ladies at Suva market late 1980s who had a booth selling Fijian handicraft and they said to me if I would like to meet and talk to their elderly father at their booth. I went and the elderly Samoan man who had a traditional tatau was emotional when he saw me and I told him that I am a Samoa student from Samoa studying at USP. He said he came from Samoa in the late 50s, married to a Fijian, raised a family and never been back to Samoa.
Its so emotional to hia this story from my Usos family. Its your land uso please stay don't go anywhere. Just straight to the P.M. and tell him that's ur land. No drama at all.

Aww Wailekutu is such a beautiful place with heaps of beautiful people from Kiribas, Tuvalu, Rotuma, Samoa. So respectful and have a great sense of humor. Made lasting friendships with famillies within Veisari settlement, I have so much respect and love for them, we South Pacific Islanders are so blessed to have this connection with each other. Never realized there was a Samoan Settlement until now through this video. Thank you for this video and sharing it as well.Vinaka Valevu💖

Isa, they would have come when Fiji was thriving I hope Fiji will return to her former glory. I never knew that there was a Samoan settlement, only knew of Tuvaluans settling near the area.
Wailekutu, and Veisari are the two places with Samoan and Tuvaluan population. The Taule’ale’a family in the documentary are Samoan/Tuvaluan - John Taule’ale’a from Veisari married into the Sale (now Charlie) family of Wailekutu 😊

I do believe that the title Taule'ale'a are my relative who are my aunty Malama's children. I live here in Brisbane Australia, but always go back hope (Samoa) to see my family. Awesome video guys. I used to live in Suva in 2010 and used to hang out in Wailekutu with some of the Samoans there. I wonder if Mrs Whippy/Nippy (sorry I've forgotten her name) is still there? She shocked the hell out of me when she started speaking Samoan to me haha she was close to her 90s I believe. And she told me how she left Savaii when she was 19 or so for Fiji.
I will ask around for her. 😌

Yep, even Tonga and the papuan brothers and Solomon's. I love my Solomon's and papuan cos when I look at them its so confusing because they just look like Fijian. All my love to brothers n sisters in the pacific.

O ! If only our Fijian leaders in the past think of their end of life’s and our end of life’s today : Fijians would have had a very different life’s altogether . Our blood brothers and sisters from Samoa from Tonga from the Solomons from Papua New Guinea from Vanuatu from Tokelau from Niue from Rabi from Papua New Guinea from Kiribati and other pacific Islands would make Fiji a real religious Island Nation . Unfortunately Satan has broken the chain of togetherness and love for one another as blood brothers and sisters . Pray as you never prayed before and fast as you never fast before . Jesus is the only way truth and the life . Repent all your sin and follow Jesus Christ . Please ! People forget about the things of this sinful world , and think only of the things that God has prepared for those who keep his commandments and the faith and testimony of Jesus Christ . Yes, they’re not. Because while the land was leased by Samoan leaders and established as a Samoan community, most of these families have married into other ethnicities. You could say it’s a place of convergence of ethnicities. But whatever ties they have with Samoa, and whatever they are able to retain, they do, and oh my, don’t they cherish it.
