Just came across your channel and am enjoying it. I've got the U-turn in Walnut. I added the cue arm and went with the Grado cart. I have it as a second tt run to my Aux with a tube phono pre-amp into a 1990s Denon Receiver. I was thinking of moving it to my living room with the new Andover Spinbase. I used to really want to buy the best equipment that I could afford and then I heard someone say that audiophiles are more interested in listening to the equipment than the music. That sit with me and now I just buy what I like and enjoy the music, reading the album notes, etc. Glad to see the comeback vinyl has made.
I took the dust cover off and never looked back, my wife got me this Turn table for Christmas a few years ago, and it reinvigorated my love of music and my deep dive into HiFi Gear.
I've been wanting a turntable for some time. This might be the one! Thanks Randy!👍👍👍
It's a well made manual turntable. I really enjoy using it. Make sure you open the dust cover all the way. FYI, the town is pronounced "Woo' - burn".
I just ordered this with the built in preamp. Can't wait to play my 70's vintage vinyl again.
Look forward to your show every morning, with coffee. You helped me understand the difference between studio recording speakers and HiFi speakers, I bought Yamaha MS 8's for the studio they are great, thanks for the info.
Great review on a fantastic little turntable. I own the Orbit Plus, along with a better built and spec’d turntable, but guess which one I keep going back to, time after time? The U-turn Orbit. I love to play records on it, as it begs to be used. At the end of the day, playing vinyl isn’t about the ultimate in sound quality. It is about the complete experience. I enjoy the ritual of it, and the experience of slow audio. I’m a music lover first.
“The one last clean place” lol! I hear u. My last one just left for college. I miss them now.
Love it. My orbit is similar, but I got the us are and the Ortifon red. It’s plugged into a TA100 and sounds very neural and detailed. Highly recommended.
Been running an orbit custom (acrylic platter, cue arm, ortofon 2m blue) for a few years now. Its a great deck, with pretty solid playback. When I do decide to upgrade I will definitely be keeping and running the Uturn in a secondary system.
Nice review! I've looked at U-turn quite a bit. If I decide to get a new table I'm going to give them a try. I sort of feel like you can take any simple basic and well made turntable and make them great by upgrading the cartridge. Just my opinion, but I would spend more on the cartridge than the turntable, instead of the other way around. I recently upgraded the cartridge on my Denon Dp300f and it made a huge difference.
I already have the u turn plus live it, it’s just as you say man. LOVE YOUR WORK/VIDEOS.🎉🎉🎉👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Glad to see some turntables making the list!!! I've looked at this one, Audio Technica 120, some of the Fluance models, and Angels Horn TT.
Mullocks are making a comeback... just saying 😆
Thanks Randy!
Have one of these with a walnut plinth. Love it. Agree on those hinges.

I have the Fluance RT85 (and matching record weight, I use it because I'm a snob...a solid difference I cannot hear but I can see if the disc is wonky) Elite in Bamboo and a thrift-store-marvel-find pair of pristine Boston CR9 loudspeakers through an old (also goodwill) Sony STR DG510 receiver.
As a serious/fanatical CD collector, i feel a very deep kinship with vinyl collectors.
I picked up a couple of DVD changers and player to tinker with and have just started collecting live concerts. Feed the changer stuff I like and set it to shuffle, or throw something to dance to with my wife in the living room. In full digital glory, with all the quirks, coughs, and imperfections of live performances. I don’t have room in my life for adding cd’s and records…but I get it!

I remember the 70's. It was scratchy. Mom had the best records and some funny ones also. Then in 1979 I bought a '69 Ford GT and an 8-Track with a Realistic equalizer/booster.
Fantastic review as usual! Pro-ject, and Fluance all sell incredible tables for the money. I hope you get a chance to try out a 2M Blue cart and an acrylic platter one day. Those upgrades make a really nice difference. If you don't own it, "Random Access Memories" from Daft Punk is an absolutely incredible piece of vinyl.
The Grado Black is great and upgradable as well.
I was hoping you would be sponsored by Charlton Heston's "Soylent Green Remover" I can't find that stuff anywhere.
Yeah, people eat that stuff up 😬
Missed opportunity
Ha!!!!
Sometimes Amazon offers a package deal with the Charlton Heston "Damn Dirty Ape Repellent".
It is nice in an audiophile world of oxygen free copper cables to finally turn the tables and have some copper free oxygen. Thank goodness Mr Heston is looking out for us.
There were two things that made me pick the Fluance over the Orbit:
1. Adjustable feet on the Fluance. I live in an old cabin and nothing in my house is perfectly square so the ability to level the table without another product was nice.
2. Cue lever included. I have nerve damage so am not capable of safely dropping or lifting my needle without one. Was a little worried (now this is without seeing how UTurn's installed) an added one would be flimsier.
The hinges probably would have bothered me as well due to my nerve damage. Even with the fluance I rarely shut it when I play music as I am afraid I will drop the cover.
Cool turntable though.
Fluance offers a great deal for the money. U-turn as well although they've gotten slightly more expensive. Both are great getting into vinyl
Agreed! I would also add (my opinion) that Fluance is one of the few that has a legit plinth. U-Turn and Pro-Ject both have thin plinths that weigh nothing. Made me feel anxious.
I have two major gripes with the Orbit: 1 - you cannot adjust the anti-skate (I'm looking at sending the table back to the factory for the third time with sound and anti-skate issues) and 2 - I prefer not to directly touch the belt to change RPM speed. I'm wondering who I can give my Orbit to as a gift, so I can purchase a new Fluance RT85N, when they are back in stock.
Great review on the U Turn.
The cover art was great on records which is now missing with streamed music.
Pro-Ject has got a really pretty satin green plinth available for their very nice Debut Carbon EVO turntable. It's closer to forest green than the bright green that some other turntables have.
Nothing but respect for the UTurn operation. If I had $200, I'd buy a Basic. At $300, I'd probably go with the Fluance RT-82 or AT Lp120. At $500, the Debut Carbon Evo. But I'm happy to hear of others living their Orbits, regardless of my preferences.
And.. Their customer service is legendary.
I do wish they had the AT VM95E as their initial upgrade cart. It offers a great choice of stylus upgrades.
That's a great little cartridge. Easy upgrade of stylus.
man you make me laugh every single video of yours :)
love you reviews! keep on the great job!
It seems like since I got back into collecting vinyl there is a lot of high quality turn tables out there, and they will not break the bank.
Im so addicted to this ch... I love his style.
Goes well with Schiit Mani, a used NAD integrated amplifier, and ELAC B6. IMHO, best budget system (+ a good DAC, like Schiit MODI). Oh, and on a "cheap" note; the newer Royal Enfields are music to my ears, and a best buy........LOVE mine!
I like your Triumph t-shirt. Rik Emmett is great!
Another nice feature about U-Turn is that their turntables are internally grounded so you don’t need an external ground wire like many other turntables.
Randy, I mean this sincerely; great review. Based on what happened with the Ares 2, I would love to see what happens if you brought a Linn LP12 into your system and gave it a whirl. Mind=Blown.
Doesn't fit the theme of this channel. Linn is VERY expensive. Plenty of other reviewers out there for you if you want that.
@@dwahnaslowdown8887 thanks dwanas. Really appreciate the guidance. Do you charge for your time, or...?. Please let me know where I can make a donation.
Bought this turntable love it
I'm gonna get me Charleton Heston compressed air! What a deal at $129.95! 😄
You can take my compressed air when you pry it from my cold dead hands.
"ever so delicately" that what defines vinyl.
Looks really nice. I wonder how good the internal preamp is. it is nice to have one to get you by until you get the vacuum tube preamp built.
I bought the U-Turn Orbit Custom last Christmas, with built-in preamp, Cue lever, splurged for the Lexan platter and Ortofon 2M Red cartridge. I really, really, really love this turntable! My only other working one was an ancient P-Mount Technics that is still going strong after a new belt with a cheap Audio-Technica cartridge on it. I plan on getting a Grado Green or Blue cartridge for it some day. Vinyl life is good again.
All those albums from the 1970s, 80s, and 90s that I was careful and only played a few times to record them to cassette are being played again. Like who am I saving them for? Might as well PLAY them, right?
I already bought the Fluance 3-piece speakers, the iFi DAC (and power supply) AND the freakin fan.
I cannot buy this as well.👍😁
Lots of companies (see Rega) use un-sprung lids to decouple them from the plinth.
Audio Technica makes some nice sounding cartridges. I don't think they deserved the diss.
That was low grade sarcasm. No diss.
Is that a Realistic STA 78 in the background? Can you do a video on that?
I had one of these. Base model. Physically a few bits are a little fiddly. The platter isn't bonded to the base, so it will tip if you push too hard on it (which you shouldn't be doing anyway). The belts tended to fall off if I hadn't used it in a along while (no biggy though). The cover on mine would NOT stay up, no matter what I did, so I just took it off entirely. Sound wise though you will NOT find anything this good for the money. Which is why u-turn is my number one recommendation for anyone wanting to get into vinyl but doesn't want to make a huge upfront investment. That they come in colors and different platters is an awesome extra.
Hey man how is the u turn holding up right now?
Custom model is soooo cool!! unfortunately I've just read on the site it doesn't work with 50Hz current :(
I like the look of that... Classy
Randy could you do a video on all the new three speed and 78 rpm dedicated turntables. Rega, Pro-ject, Clear Audio and Audio Technica to name a few.
If you’re going down the vintage rabbit hole, get a Technics Sl-1200 mk2 - don’t have to worry about changing belts or speed issues, cover has springs, comes with a cue lever and speed select buttons, on-the-fly VTA adjustments, removable head shell, adjustable leveling feet, no wall wart to mess with, are pretty much bombproof AND there’s lots of them out there.
UTurn's customer service is outstanding! I just wish their product was nearly as good.
Randy, do you have a triumph? I have a street triple 675R 😁. Also, the new music is kicking.
I had a speed triple for some time. Loved it
Nioce!
Someone should come out with a warp drive for vinyl records...
for those who left their records in the car on a hot summer day.
DO you like this one better than the fluance?
Fancy "B" roll! You're getting pretty good at this You Tube thing.
I am not going to buy a turntable from a company who's to cheap to include a cueing lever, fer chrissakes! Love my Fluance because they include what I'd consider the minimum equipment a good turntable should include, INCLUDING an Ortofon Blue catridge. It sounds awesome!
Lmao the Sponsor of the day is hilarious
Laugh all you want, but switching from regular air to Heston air made a huge difference in my system.
Denafrips Ares 2 is a grand lol. So much for cheap audio man lol
Realistic is the bomb. Grew up on all that.
I still have my old Realistic receiver. after 45 years it needs new volume pots but otherwise works. My LAB440 TT still works but I need to fix a couple things like the auto shut off and the cue doesn't lift as high as it should. Of course I don't lift as high as I should any more either.
@@mkshffr4936 my pops got all his in ‘74. Reciever. Tape deck. 8track. EQ. And turntable. it was quite a sight to see. And realistic mach 1s. With 15”. That system jammed!! its all in his storage. I need to go get it and have it serviced.
@@LaGataNegra3073 So cool. You can get replacement Mach 1 woofers from Parts Express and I have been tempted to make an improved version with multiple woofers.
Absolutely need to get them out. The 1970s was a golden age for Realistic. The stuff from that era had a schematic in the users manual so if you have the manuals it makes it really easy to do a recap.
So, for you, if you had neither and were ready to purchase either the Fluance RT85 OR the Orbit U-Turn Plus, which would be playing your vinyl in your listening room?
Green Delta Variant concert in Tejas, mi hombre!
It’s air!! It’s AIR!
Better options out there. System has no growth potential. The arm is nasty for IGD. Go with a Rega P3 for first turntable
Pro tip. Record clamps are far better than record weights. In order to get more clamping force you have to add more weight which puts more stress on the belt and motor. By getting a center clamp you can tighten it down over the spindle to get huge clamping force without putting any extra weight on the platter.
Do you have a link where I can find information about pony tails?
I saw Green Day at a small venue in Seattle in 1993, and they were boring. Also saw NOFX around the same time and they were great.
I looked for the link to Charlton Heston's compressed air but couldn't find it.
😂
I believe there as an outbreak of cholera in the warehouse.
@@cheapaudioman it's people! The compressed air is people!!!
I have enjoyed my orbit turntable. Walnut plinth was a classy choice for me. Great review as usual. We need more ponytail and man bun content for sure.
Ahhh . . . no, we don't.
The Grado Black Cartridge has weak to nonexistent highs.
Nothing worse than black cartilage.
Cartridge. I had a brain fart.
I could afford a decent turntable (preferably Rega, but it's all good above ~500USD) but I doubt that I could afford the vinyl addiction and I KNOW I cant afford record washers and other miscellany. Thanks for the video.
Is the air for huffing?
Quiz; What's the band? 'Charlton Heston put his vest on'
U turn is pretty much a P1?
I have a ponytail. I'm not skinny. It's a problem.
I bought two tables from them, they only given me one belt. I have a red and a white one.
“Woo-burn”, not “whoa-burn”. Side note: I’m from Brooklyn and MA pronounced everything wrong. ie Peabody = puberty
Great review Randy! I’m sure streaming is awesome but 95% of my listening is vinyl. BTW, time to change my avatar. #trident660
Oh yeah, Speaking of GRADO; the SR80 headphone IMHO is unbeatable for sound quality at anything near $150.......not that anyone asked :)
The compressed air is made in a secret lab by monkeys!!
Please do not buy one of them they're pile of rubbish, if u can get it under $100 fair enough I think the price is $200 for that price get the project primary e, very good turntable
Best price in its price range.
No don't put a record weight on there it's not designed for it will damage the spindle and bearing if you must use a Michell clamp
Couldn't disagree more. Love mine, upgraded to ortofon blue cartridge and acrilic platter. Great price and sounds better than anything in price range
try a decent vintage direct drive turntable and you will never use that one again ;-)
Fy
I can't vinyl. I have no patience. But I am a bit envious of good vinyl collections and systems. As long as you're happy, do it.
