    Pretty good summation of the game in a quick little video. The only thing I'd add is to the new players who might be worried about gearing and how pvp works, there are capped nodewars where your gear doesn't matter *as much* and you can still participate and do well if you play well with lower gear. BDO isn't for everybody, and it's not perfect, but I'd strongly recommend everybody at least try it, because I think it's legitimately the best MMO to ever exist. Hope anybody who tries it loves the game.

Yes, if you buy certain products (such as a tent), you get a boost. However, it is completely optional for people that may not want to take the time to grind. Everyone has been super helpful with questions I have, especially the veteran players there. I was kinda discouraged because the game is overwhelming for a new player and even after hitting lvl 60, there are times where I just dont know what I should be doing next or striving for. So if you are a new player, try to join a guild and ask any questions you have, they will help you.

    I plan lengthy 30+ day breaks from the game, you get bonuses for 'returning' which i see as a motivation to plan breaks. Makes the game more enjoyable to see it as a slow burn.

    • @Mekose
      @Mekose 11 месяцев назад +1

      Honestly this is a great way to play the game. The returning rewards are so nice and they give you value pack time which reduces tax for selling items on the market. That's how I've been playing for years and I'm 700GS. Grind for a week or two and save all your items until you have a value pack. Also if you keep a pre-order up for a 30day value pack from the cash shop they usually fill every month or so. I've got 90 days worth of value packs from the market and events and I haven't bought a value pack from the cash shop in like 3 years.

    • @volzod1199
      @volzod1199 11 месяцев назад +1

      Underrated. The value you get from taking a break can exceed what you'd get from playing nonstop in some cases. And the safety of Olvia servers is very valuable for players not ready for pvp. I regularly play month on, month off, I consider it a very healthy approach to the game.

    I've been trying to get into BDO a few times over the years and every time I just stop playing. The game is amazing for its combat, but my biggest issue is how bloated it is with random stuff. My bank in the first city is full, and I did buy slots many times, but full of random item I don't even know what they do. Tons and tons of systems that are barely explained and a thousand menus. But I do plan to give it a better chance. I've reached lv 53 and understand not even half of what is happening in this game. Like, I had no idea about the tagging system.

    What made me stuck with Black Desert is that long term gear progression. In other MMO you spend hundreds of hours grinding for BiS items just to throw them away when the next content expansion drops. In this game the new gears (except accessories) are just extensions built on top of the current BiS gear. Around 2 years ago when I stopped playing I had a full set of PEN boss gears (was BiS at the time), now when I pick the game back up, the Fallen God series is just upgrading those PEN boss gears I already had.

  • @Mekose
    @Mekose 11 месяцев назад +4

    One thing to note about pure P2W is how atrocious the conversion rate is. A costume is $30 for 400M silver; which is less than 30 minutes of grinding, this means you'd need to spend $1050 a week to max whale. To get that one item, a pen blackstar, would cost over $5000 for one item, that also has to exist and been made by another player. Keep in mind that whaling the cash shop requires you to sell that costume on the market to another player for silver; so whaling doesn't inflate the economy and also benefits the player-base because they can buy cash shop items with silver. A full set of gear (or 76 weeks) would be over $80k.
    I've been playing BDO since late 2017 and spent maybe $600 total on the cash shop over 12k hours of play time. Any time I want a costume (for example, the new black knight costume that just came out); I just put up an order on the market and buy it for silver and the order will fill in a few days. There's nothing on the cash shop that I feel required to buy and anything I want I can just buy from the marketplace after a few days of a pre-order.
    There's a famous interview on youtube with a hardcore whale that spent over $150k on the cash shop back when BDO was arguably more P2W and I have better gear than him playing semi-casually a few hours a week. Also note that most of the content in the game is gear capped anyway, like node wars and arena content; so the only place "P2W" benefits you is open world where there are so many grind spots and so few whales that in my 12k hours of playing I've never run into one. Also even if they kill you, karma limits how many times they can kill you anyway. P2W is really not an issue in BDO at all IMO.

    • @Matthew-ij3zm
      @Matthew-ij3zm 11 месяцев назад

      This comment should be pinned. You have the veterans like you and me saying "p2w, but you're not winning" (obviously meaning simply "ok, but at what cost?") and all the dummies who think they know best are still making fun of us. I know someone who's p2w a little bit when I never did and although he has better gear and progressed slightly faster, we do virtually the same damage to most mobs and clear most spots at virtually the same speed because of how the game works. However, people don't want to understand the game's systems and prefer to believe that someone paying to win is gonna be far better than people who aren't, PERIOD. This is becoming rather frustrating, especially because it can send the wrong message and incentiveze new players to p2w.

    • @TehBrownie
      @TehBrownie 11 месяцев назад +1

      To be fair that is not how people whale in BDO. There is no cap to how many outfits you can buy only sell. Most hard-core players are addicted to the gambling part of the game and risking their items for gains. Again this part is not capped. You can swipe millions in a day if your credit card will let you. Buying outfits to Melt for crons and artisans memories is the real p2w in BDO. But like stoppz said it is a chase items and in most cases pvp is capped gear. Even in open world pvp if someone is 20 ap higher then you but sucks ass on their class you can school them. But to say you can not whale is just wrong.

    • @pinie111
      @pinie111 11 месяцев назад

    • @TehBrownie
      @TehBrownie 11 месяцев назад

      @@pinie111 IMO the Real P2W no one talks about is buying Artisans Memory at No Cap and Buying Outfits to Melt into Crons. Again there is no Cap on this. Players can do 2 things here. click their gear non stop for upgrades or Click with Crons to sell them Pens. This allowing them to have unlimited funds. Some spend 100s of thousands on this.

  • @snaccc
    @snaccc 11 месяцев назад +11

    I think you hit on something that a lot of people don't talk about: It's possible to make a F2P, Shop Monetized game that's fun and sustainable for players as long as it's balanced. As long as a good chunk of that money goes back into the game and community, as long as swiping isn't the sole method of progression, and that the game is actually of good quality - players will tolerate it. That's how these sorts of games should be. The problem is when certain companies heavily monetize but don't stick to those rules.

    I REALLY hope they do something about the items. I've played this since at least about 2016, and as a constantly returning players after putting it down and then coming back - it really sucks and is still overwhelming to me to deal with all the inventory. Considering that inventory slots AND weight are limited and p2w, I hate them constantly throwing out non-stackable kinds of new seasonal and event items that I just can't use fast enough, just to come back and there be even more junk I don't understand. However, it's a solid screenshot simulator and fun combat xD

    • @TheReafg
      @TheReafg 11 месяцев назад

      With how many events there are left and right that gives weight and inventory this feels misleading, capped 2 and going to third on inventory slot and weight around 1300lt. • @ScarryHarry93
      @ScarryHarry93 11 месяцев назад

      @@TheReafg not misleading I feel...I have done the inv quests, even spent monet and loyalties on more - I have the valuepack from returning and often try to consolidate...but I still have times where it's not enough. Hell, I don't even have enough [free] maids to do 20 mins of grinding without filling up and not even able to empty the trash loot with maids. God and let's not forget the fact that just silver used to have weight too.
      I've yet to see the magnus quest ot increase inventory, only open up the possibility to using more storages as back-up, as if I didn't already do that with some items. But anyone who likes to do any decent amount of lifeskilling and crafting to get things they need, like myself, will have a load of random stuff everywhere. I've got timbers, ores, traces and other trash excavation loot, tools, pots and food (since family inventory have a tiny amount of weight and only like 4 free slots) all taking up most of my storage between calp to altinova. And I wouldn't say I hoard either, considering I don't build and collect a bunch of trade goods, alchemy products, furniture, ect either.

  • @fcf8269
    @fcf8269 10 месяцев назад +1

    The 2 big issues with the game are the fact that the grind is real (as you must spend money and time to do anything), and that it is PVP mandatory after you reach the level cap.
    For the PVP; not much you can do: anyone can attack you once you are max level; so if you don't like that, nothing you can do
    For the first problem: you are constantly forced to deal with small inventory space, and you get a ton of trash or material you can't use until later, so you have to buy storage, so you have to grind or spend real money... And to advance you have to grind; so you have to invest a ton of time in the game. This is not a MMO you can pick and put down whenever you want; it ask a lot of time of you, and as such it is something you can't play whenever you want.
    Other than that, it is a nice one, but those 2 are the biggest blocker for many people

    The main reason BDO is popping off so much is how much freedom the game gives you. BDO is a sandbox where you establish your own goals between many different activities and there are many ways of getting silver and mats to progress your character. Don't get me wrong it's still a KMOO, however players who came from Lost Ark where they railroad you into gatekept raids experienced a whole new world here. Restricting gameplay is a fatal mistake for MMOs and BDO went with the complete opposite philosophy.
