Born in the 90 I had no feeling for the war and the pain it brought to my parents and grandparents and I honestly even thought I had freedom but now I just unlearned what I learnt . The last episode was amazing! Showing me what the show’s first point is
So happy for Vietnamese representation on the screen! My father fought in the Vietnam war when he was a teen, he was born in 1950. He came from a wealthy family and after the north won his family lost it all to the communist regime. I want to show him this film because he is very proud to have fought along the U.S to help the south and his country l despite us losing.😊
2:56 they need some seriously study on that. They'll probably said something directly like "thằng tây con". Ppl in previous Vietnamese generation didn't think that hard to hate on sb, they'll just go straight up and primitive.
my biggest problem with this show is the native dialogue. People don't talk in full sentence like that. It feels like it was written in a very formal format and not by someone who actually speak the language day to day. Yes, full sentences make it much easier for translation but no, people don't talk like that.
To be fair, isn't that almost always something that shows do? Most shows (or at least most Western ones) have characters exposit fully-formed sentences in sequence, in English too. The only exceptions I can think of are the shows that explicitly include an improvisational component such as Smiling Friends.
@@sabiro2315 it threw the immersion out of the window. Authenticity should be sth to strive for especially in the context of this show, when it makes such a big deal to include Vietnamese anything and everything. Following your logic, this is like speaking posh London accent in the show "The Wire" which takes place in Baltimore, Maryland. Does it make it easier to understand? Yes? Would it make the show feel weird and out of context? Absoutely.
You want to show authenticity ? I am Vietnamese...Well, here's a suggestion... We don't talk like this in NORMAL conversation...I watched 1 episode and am so turned off with the VIETNAMESE DIALOGUE/CONVERSATION. Before you said I am too critical...please ask any Vietnamese people to confirmed if we talk like this in real life. It sounds so UNNATURAL when 2 people conversed in Vietnamese...it's like reading off a book (even reading off a book don't sound this bad). If WE are going to better ourselves in the area of medias...THIS PARTICULAR TRAIT needs to STOP and improve upon!!! (Not just this show but any others when it comes to Vietnamese dialogue/conversation ON SCREEN!)
looks good and good effort but unfortunately the main cast (who are Vietnamese) don't even speak Vietnamese fluently, except for Ky Duyen and maybe some other people who are not in this video.
Most of the cast are second gen Vietnamese in America, it is lucky that they speak any Vietnamese at all. I think they would cast more Vietnamese actor if the Vietnam Government did not reject the request to film in Vietnam.
on the 4th episode now and the series is really nice but I gotta say this marketing is so out of touch. If they were truly concerned with portraying something culturally accurate the cast should've been vietnamese. Hollywood still isn't professional enough with non english cultures
The casting is horrible! Only Kieu Chinh and Ky Duyen speak understandable Vietnamese. The dialogue is often impossible to understand, they better speak English and Vietnamese subtitles. Plus the acting is unnatural, superficial. Disappointed. Wouldn't watch the next series of any.
Can you elaborate how it's not "diverse"? It's about Vietnamese people and they got Vietnamese people.. they didn't get non-Vietnamese playing Vietnamese. That's a big step up for me.
Lol yeah they had only 1 black and everyone else is Vietnamese and some white in a show about vietnam war, wonder why they haven’t been called out yet 😂
This show is so good, makes me appreciate and feel more for what my parents and grandparents had went through
This show has me by the balls. Hats off to the cast and crew for making some of the best of TV rn.
Thank you HBO for producing such an excellent series. And thanks to everyone who worked on it.
This show is phenomenal. Hats off to these actors. They have created something magnificent together.

hopefully hbo don’t stop there, more authentic representation of the world
This was an amazing series, I hope that we see more like it.
2편까지 봤습니다. 블랙유머, 미장센 완벽한데 주성치식 유머까지 있어요. 박찬욱감독님 역시 최고에요
국내에서는 어디서 볼수 있나요?
Series stays faithful to the book, which is amazing. Viet Thahn Nguyen is such a witty, intelligent writer
Pretty sure Viet Thanh Nguyen was pretty involved in the series adaptation.
I know you guys will do our Asian American community justice and pride with the authenticity of this story
authenticity for the story. yes ofcourse
This thing blows up my mind 😃 I love the series so much!

Wealth should not be hoarded by greedy capitalists
Has it ever crossed your mind that your father was fighting for the bad guys

Loved this series and totally agree the production and costume design were superb!
Only A24 can do such authentic work for the Asian community
They have to film this in Thailand and of course this series is banned from its mother country Vietnam
Oh, then he's a good actor I mean, he's a good actor and he's a good actor.
Tell me, is it based on American novel of the same name by Vietnamese-American author, please? I'm from Vietnam 🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳
Yes, it is.
Such an amazing team work 👍
Great, great show

good job changing hbo max to max, adding ads and lowering the video quality

Yeah some of them have funny Vietnamese but the main character story was that he was a half breed

A double agent is unnatural and superficial. Change my mind!

@darinruest850 Go watch faux news.
@@ngocle9329 diversity would include afghanis, Africans, Syrians, Pacific Islanders, and lots of lgbtq2bia
hahah love the sarcasm. Where is the black "soul brother" from Full Metal Jacket? lol

👏👏👏🫰👍 I loved it. It was a good show. It was good. It was fascinated it was mysterious, it was good.
