When I used to oil chains, I needed to replace the chain every year. After I started waxing with my diy wax I get 3 years to a chain, sometimes 4 years. Far superior to oiling the chain.
I think some chains are more susceptible to rust than others, I have a SRAM XX1 chain on my MTB, I never dry it after wet rides, just wash the bike and put it away and it has never shown any signs of rust.
I found the section of Silca vid that discusses the effect of factory grease on their wax ruclips.net/video/cEnD95UwE3w/видео.html . Putting a chain with an oil based lube like Synergetic in the wax pot without deep cleaning has a similar effect which is why Silca do not recommend it. @@travers_bikes Not a scientist whatsoever, but I'm pretty sure that if we go through the tedious process of removing all the factory oil off our chains before waxing them, it's not to re-apply engine on it oil right after.

I agree, it’s like having a new chain every time you rewax
Great video...thank you very much
You are welcome!
I noticed your chain had some rust on it. Do you blame it on the wax or was it there prior to waxing?
It was an older chain I was messing around with, I haven’t noticed a rust on any of the chains I wax regularly
@@travers_bikes rust is my only concern stopping me from waxing. Thank you for the reply!

Can you make a vid "How to prep your chain for waxing" please ? Thank's
I cover it in this video, How to wax a chain

Okay thanks

Anyone that will listen!
I use a mix with paraffin 600 grams + wax 100 grams + 70 ml engine oil
does it stay clean with the engine all in it? why not use something like graphite?
Wax and paraffin are the same thing, and the engine oil just ruins everything. But hey, whatever "works" for you...
I agree the engine oil seem to defeat the point of using wax

I agree, I wouldn’t add anything to the wax that will trap and hold dirt after going to the trouble of degreasing the chain
