      angel -mist I guess you’re the opposite of me. Pre Time Skip, Claude and Edelgard were better than Dimitri in my opinion. Post time skip, I think all of the main 3 lords are equally. Not in personality of course.. I don’t know about self awareness tho. I think the right word is incredibly arrogant and naive.

    • @michaelolegario6399
      @michaelolegario6399 4 года назад +125

      Not sure if you were calling Dimitri arrogant and naive Inkling, but Dimitri does have self awareness on a majority of paths despite going a bit insane. Heck, even in Crimson Flower even though he still wants revenge, he still calmed down to the point of being a King for the Kingdom that need him in comparison to other routes where he can care less about the Kingdom. Arrogant and naive is Edelgard a majority of the time. Hell, even Claude calls her out in the prologue and she retorts at Claude lacking self awareness which is ironic especially since she loses herself in most paths with Blue Lions being her at her most desperate and lost. I mean one of her attacks in Blue Lions is called "Withered Flower" after all.
      When the player plays all the paths she becomes overall naive which adds to her being a tragic antivillain since we know all the information and also know that Those who Slither manipulated history as much as Rhea did. I mean she believed the people who persecuted her for so long. Maybe her gullibility for their lies was a result of trauma.
      In terms of self awareness, she even has the gall to say lines in her own path like "Must you retaliate and reconquer?". Sure the line itself was written bad as a "No U", but even if it was written with better words in mind, the point she made still stands. I mean what did she expect? People to be on board with her taking control of somebody else's territory? You may help her simmer down in her path, but she is still much more naive and arrogant than Dimitri or Claude. She pretty much put shame on Emperor Wilhelm's memory. Edelgard may have noble intentions, but she is "My way, or the highway". Honestly I find it ironic that outside of her path she doesn't step down from leadership and she basically becomes Rhea 2.0. She's a parallel to Rhea.
      Both are incredibly arrogant and naive and unfit to rule without proper guidance. I mean without Byleth, Edelgard is so hellbent on "winning" that the ideals of hers become even more extreme and lack morals. Rhea is so hellbent with her mommy issues and is too focused on the past and becomes indifferent towards the issues of present day while Edelgard is too focused on the future and fails to see the issues with her war in the present whenever she doesn't have Byleth as her teacher. Dimitri on the otherhand doesn't want to rule and accepts his role as a monster in his "Punished form". Hell he is so far gone that even if he managed to kill Edelgard in his punished state, he would probably kill himself afterwards. The dude's resolve wavers a lot and in most paths where he doesn't care about ruling, he is fine with dying a fruitless death until you snap him out of it. Dimitri has the awareness of his monstrous acts so his issue isn't arrogance. It's more because he's as much suicidal as he is homicidal. He pretty much taunts Byleth to kill him because they don't approve of what he's become. He has no regards to the lives of his enemy and even his own life.

      Dimitri knows more than most that it takes one to know one. Randolph made a massive mistake sending the entirety of what was left of his forces into an obvious trap, all because of a petty insult. That one move of his smeared his hands with the blood of his own men, and Randolph didn't even acknowledge it during Dimitri's emotional torture. I wouldn't call her an idiot. She probably only saw her dead brother's corpse and assumed the one eyed demon killed him after hearing Dimitri taunted her brother and threatened to torture him to death. I can't blame her for targeting Dimitri like she did. Hell, I don't think even Dimitri himself blames her for wanting him dead, given that he had already prepared himself to be the target of vengeful souls. It's just cosmic irony that her anger was directed at the wrong person, and she also kills the wrong person in pursuit of said revenge. And then she's killed by the same person who killed her brother too. So much tragic irony there. It's great narratively.

    • @Spiralpaladin

      @@l.n.3372 Indeed it is. And even more ironic is that Dimitri spent the past five years dedicating himself to taking revenge on Edelgard, despite the fact that she wasn't the one responsible for the Tragedy of Duscur. Fleche's attempt on his life, I think was the very first moment he actually questioned whether Edelgard was truly responsible for the Tragedy of Duscur, or if she truly did have nothing to do with it like she said. And Dimitri most certainly doesn't blame Fleche for wanting him dead. That much is clear during his long awaited A-Support with Byleth. @@justinbowen5574 To be fair if he just ran and didn't kill, the imperial soldiers would have killed him anyways. I mean heck Edelgard sent Cornelia out of all people to make Faerghus a Dukedom. Considering Cornelia is a Slither, I wasn't surprised she suppressed Fhirdiad and framed Dimitri for killing his Uncle. He is a fugitive. The dude was supposed to be executed 5 years ago so Dimitri killing Imperial Soldiers I find justified since they would ruthlessly kill him anyway like they did in Golden Deer. Hilda literally said Dimitri collapsed from exhaustion chasing after Edelgard. I mean the man is physically drained yet the imperial soldiers just do overkill on him by piercing through him with several lances and spears. His death may have been fruitless, but it didn't have to be as gruesome as Hilda described. So I don't get why they would make a big deal out of Dimitiri killing when they are ruthlessly doing the same to their enemies in a similar gruesome fashion. The imperials are just being hypocrites to put themselves above everybody else like that in their name of justice. It's pretty arrogant if you ask me.

I am not seeing the gap between these positions, at least not a wide one. Dimitri is cruel and obsessed, I will grant it, but how is this worse than cracking crest stones and shoving them in children to make Demon Beasts to be shock troops again?

    To all of you people who are arguing over Randolph's/Edelgard's/etc. behavior vs. Dimitri's/etc. behavior:
    Stop it. Get some help.
    I mean seriously these people aren't real, and they're fighting wars over political ideologies, AKA, opinions.
    It's safe to say that none of them is wrong by that logic; there's literally no good guy or bad guy here save for the root of the problem, which is TWSITD.
    Just play the damn game and enjoy it for what it is, okay? There's no point in starting flame wars over a collection of 1s and 0s.

      Opinions can be wrong and Edelgard and Randolph are very wrong, this Bloodshed was terrible. Dimitri torturing him was a bit overboard, but not entire unjust.
      People can discuss things freely, they have the right to do so.

    • @bahamutfateburn6091
      @bahamutfateburn6091 4 года назад

      Let's address these questions in a relevant order:
      I didn't say anything about people not being allowed to talk about it. I said people shouldn't be starting flame wars over it.
      And to get to the meat of the discussion, no, an opinion cannot be wrong. A fact can be wrong, and it's a fact that the bloodshed present in three houses is horrible.
      However, an opinion, unlike a fact, has nothing that can be considered as evidence to prove that it is right or wrong, save for other opinions; those differing opinions are also proven right or wrong by other opinions, which therein renders the entire argument null and void.
      It's like trying to solve a court case with no evidence.
      No matter the crime, if there's no evidence available that proves that the defendant is guilty or innocent, it becomes nothing short of he-said-she-said.
      So to make a long story short: an opinion can be *different.* It cannot be *incorrect,* as opinions are not concrete things.
      But hey it's your opinion, and you're not wrong in believing what you believe in. ;P

    People call Randolph the hypocrite here so easily from his line. Yeah, see, unlike Dimitri, Randolph isn't out for the sake of killing people. He's fighting a war and thus fights battles, where he's forced to kill people. Not exactly someone that enjoys the thought of killing people. But Dimitri murders others for the sake of quenching his thirst for revenge. Nothing more. If Dimitri is more absolved cause he admits he's a monster and then says sorry cause he feels bad later, then I have more issues here. Even worse given how the guy tries to torture poor Randolph to death.

      But Dimitri doesn’t kill for the hell of it either, he kills those that go after him, a.k.a Imperial Soldiers, or bad people, a.k.a bandits out of crazed sense of justice. Randolph kills people on the opposing side, and so does Dimitri. The only difference is that Dimitri relishes in it. That’s it.
      That’s why we feel Randolph is a hypocrite; he’s getting mad at Dimitri for killing his men when he’s killing other people’s men too. When Dimitri brings this up in the torture scene, Randolph goes, “IT’S WAR!” Exactly. So why is it okay for HIM to kill and not Dimitri?

    • @0axis771
      @0axis771 4 года назад +5

      @@fantasyfan1836 Except that isn't the case. Dimitri is literally going around killing for the SAKE of killing. He's not in it for some duty or even self-defense. He literally states that the "rats" have to be exterminated and such. He isn't trying to fight for any purpose. He's fighting just to kill because the voices in his head tell him to.
      Randolph, on the other hand, is fighting strictly as a soldier. He is killing because he's in a war, and he needs to fight to kill. And he does it because he wants to help his family out. His mother and sister are the reason why he is fighting in this war. He fights with a purpose.
      When the man that fights for a purpose meets a man that kills for the sake of killing, then Randolph has every right to make that remark.
      Dimitri is a murderer. Randolph is a soldier.

      Anyway, exactly-Dimitri’s ghosts tell him to. It’s not because he just enjoys it for the sake of it it’s because he feels he owes them; that they died for him and he needs to pay them back. Dimitri (so he perceives) is fighting for his family as surely as Randolph is.
      Except Dimitri knows what he’s doing isn’t okay. Randolph pulls up on a Monastery filled with innocent priests, orphans, and children then attacks it UNPROVOKED and has the gal to whine about Dimitri being a monster for killing Imperial Soldiers that were hunting him down like a dog.
      And side note: Those rats were not innocent-they were Bandits a.k.a people who kill and steal for money sooo I don’t see how Dimitri killing them was a bad thing? Can you explain?
