I came to discover Dr. Tim by watching one of his speech at a MACNA conferences on secrets to properly cycle a tank. I was impressed on how honest he was and not giving us BS. I tried his great tips and successfully cycled my tanks in no time...Ever since then I use his bacteria products with confidence.

I really hope you explain the phosphate reading for me..no one ever says the number as it pretains to the tester they are using..i.e hanna tester, phosphate reader..the low range reader. Looking forward to it

I’ve been running a soft coral only reef tank for years on 40+ ppm and I don’t even measure phosphates. Pretty sure phosphates are sky high as well but my soft corals have grown and reproduced like crazy. I think stable parameters are the key to keeping healthy corals, rather than chasing nutrient control numbers. As long as the parameters don’t fluctuate drastically everyday and remain closely stable, i’ve found that corals will change and adapt well to both low or high nutrient levels. I don’t have any sps in my tank so it may be different for sps corals but with soft corals, i’ve had low nutrients and high nutrients with no ill effects. Soft corals grow fine and seem to thrive better in higher nutrient water in my opinion. I keep my nutrients higher on purpose, due to Dinos appearing at lower nitrate levels in my experience. I’d rather deal with higher nutrient levels than have an out of control dino outbreak.

Typo- 0.03 to 0.1 ppm phosphate

8 nitrates lol. My nitrates are 40ppm. It frightens me sometimes but my aquarium is very stable. I feel like i should slowly bring that number down.

Should the Phosphate slide have said .03 instead of .3? (2.42)

@@SlightlyM3ntal I was waiting for an overdub during the pause after he said that. Not sure why he didn't just correct the slide.

I like the new thiught that Nitrate is 20, you phos should be 0.2 or Nitrate at 30, Phos should be 0.3 or Nitrat is 5 than Phos should be .05 and so one. Can you ask him about this?

Dr Hovanec mentioned that its not the same bacteria incolved in the nitrogencycle above as under 10 degree C during a MACNA talk. Can you please ask him what bacteria is involved in the sub 10 degree saltwater?!
