For those getting high and mighty, you never know when you might need these benefits. A friend of mine, divorced dad with two kids, was a successful mechanic, but had to have surgery. The surgery didn't work, so had to have more surgeries. Meanwhile, his temporary disability ran out and he doesn't qualify for unemployment. For what little it is, he needs the "cash aid" and food stamps to keep himself and his family alive. There's that saying, "But for the grace of God, there go I." Instead of bagging on people who are in hard circumstances, be grateful for the things that are going good in your own life. 🍀

Just like this lady I never let my card out of my sight, and the first time it happened at a bank of America bank ATM which is supposed to be secure from theft. The ATM didn't have a skimmer or anything. The second time it happened I didn't even have to put my card in anywhere they just stole it as soon as it was posted 12am. It's someone in their departments, someone in their disbursement center stealing from people without even having to have the physical card. I'm not sure why they won't Admit that.

no they had it from before you need to change the pin so ir wont work with the previos pin thus they would need to skim again and keep watching and changing pin i got a new card for next month i was skimmed in ny used in colorado walmarts 234 food yes they found cameras in alot of banks taking pins i think bank cards cant be duplicated since it needs a chip
Nobody especially these days has the right to talk mess about ppl receiving government assistance. I’m permanently disabled after an assault (DV). I’m lucky I’ve been able to keep my little county library job for the past several years. But it’s all I have for now. 6 surgeries later. 11 years in my house. Going from a wheelchair for months to a walker etc. not everyone is fortunate. Sometimes ppl need a little help!
I worked my way into the hospital twice ignoring the doctors after being disabled becasue i hate the idea of being on SSDI or I would have worked my way into grave had it not been for not wanting to leave my son fatherless

This happened to me both May 2022 and June and JULY. And my landlord swore up and down that I was lying and that other people in my apts who had EBT cards weren't having it happen to them which meant nothing. I should send her this video lol
But you also probably make $5-6k per week, so stop complaining like a little girl. Last year scammers stole my cash benefits for one month. I filed a police report online, filled out the claim forms TWICE and never got reimbursed. It's like I was punished for something that wasn't my fault. I never heard back from the police dept either. They probably never bothered to review my case.
There's 3 parts to successfully getting your benefits back. 1) calling the calworks/cashaid customer service number and getting a claim number from them, and then calling the police dept to get a claim number from them as well, file the police report over the phone and get your temporary claim number emailed to you. And then lastly add BOTH claim numbers to your report of theft of benefits form you get from your county office, filling that out entirely with as much detail as possible and include BOTH the police report claim number and the calworks/cashaid report claim number on this form. Turn it in as soon as possible.
If you never got paid make sure you have both claims numbrrs from both departments, and just go down to the office in person and try to meet with a worker to ask what you should do now because you still need those benefits back.

We now have ebtEDGE which lets you check your balance and change your PIN. Chip cards are coming later this year but it might take a while to transition all the cards and business'.

If you receive cash assistance on a card be smart about it. Don't download the app that allows you to check your balance. Go to the ATM and withdraw everything on the day you receive it. Then pay all of your bills immediately with the cash from the ATM.
Never swipe your card if you can, tap or chip (they're both encrypted) and use electrical tape to mask the middle 8 digits of your CC that way a hidden camera can't get record the numbers.
The only way to avoid this if this has happened to you is to have it direct deposited to your own bank account, or a cashapp or a PayPal or anything. Never happened to me again after doing that.
@Simon since the ebt cards themselves are now liable to be skimmed, There's various options to receive your benefits. The EBT card (which we now know is unsecured), check that gets mailed to you, Or your own bank account.
@Simon if you're confused it's true you can't get EBT FOOD STAMPS direct deposited to you bank account... Because they're food stamps. These skimmers are stealing the cash portion, they don't care for your food stamps.
Yeah this exact thing happened to me and my gf a few weeks ago. We eventually got the money back, but it was over 700$ we lost. It's scary to think that it could happen any other time.
It happened to me twice with no answers as to why or how, until finally the manager at my county office finally asked "is there a bank account that we can just direct deposit your benefits to? This is gonna keep happening to your EBT card". And gave my the official form for the request. Never happened again although I was pissed I had to go figure out where I could get benefits direct deposited to lol all I use is cashapp and PayPal, fortunately my PayPal was eligible.
Data aggregation is out of control in California. Workers at Social Security Administration, Banks, Credit Reporting businesses, Phone & Internet companies, Landlords, Court Records, Dept. of Social Services, Dept. Motor Vehicles, College & University Financial Aid, Grocery stores, in addition to many other government agencies sell information as a side hustle. Its packaged into aggregate reports and then sold. This information can be sold to crooks and also be useful for marketing purposes. Why isn't the California Attorney General enforcing that data aggregation predators be limited to the most recent 7 years of information and no access to social security numbers?
eb cards must have the acct numbers and pins when you swipe it its stored and then approved or not your talking something else channge the pin and the ebt wont work for the crook it needes to be reskimmed
This has been happening. I got mine stolen in November 2021 along with thousands of others. I filed a police report filed paperwork with social services but they don't care and I never got my money back. I had to borrow money because I had none.
If it happens to the victim again in a three year period they won’t get they money back but what’s the solution to STOP the thieves from taking money again. If it happened once, y’all don’t think it can happen again. If it happens twice in a three year period, the victim shouldn’t be punished cause it’s the ebt folks that got to fix the system so scammers can’t access anybody accounts. 🤦🏾♂️
In my county I was told they just say that to encourage people to take extra precaution in receiving benefits like getting it direct deposited to your own bank to prevent wire fraud or skimming... Because it happened to me 3 months straight this year alone. I had the same fear and thought that policy could not be real lol how y'all gonna hold it against me when I haven't done anything wrong
And your comment is exactly what lead me to believe back then it's them on the distribution side that's doing it. The actual cash aid benefit center/distribution office. The people you have to call and report this to when it happens. Or at least that's what a caseworker for my county told me.

There was still $300.00 on her card. Then 2 days later she noticed the $300 was gone. She called back and said the scammer now took the rest of her money. The person said that the guy who she reported it to did not cancel the card and send a new one. Total stolen is over $1200.00 now.

My mail man has just been fired and punished for stealing and withholding mail for me and various other tenants in my apartments. Go to the office and pick it up. Waiting in line is much better than waiting all month, waking up on payday and your entire check is gone. Gotta be more thorough about your money

Omg literally this happened to me two weeks ago somebody tried to get EBT in Los Angeles in my name and put my phone number. It must have worked because the card was on hold from being used. I replaced my card also (just in case) different account number and different magnetic strip (+ new password) so change your card they will do it on the spot.. it takes time (even an hour) but in Brooklyn it takes minutes

This happened to me with my Food Stamps in August and my son-in-laws cash aid this month. Like the lady in the video my card never left my possession. I made a claim with EBT and was denied.
So when my funds were stolen I called the EBT customer service number and reported it, they gave me a claim # and said I now wait for a response. I never received one. I called two months later and was told my claim was denied. No one ever told me any other instructions. I found out on my own u have to feel out a for for the theft and make a police report if it was cash aide
@@michelleraygosa8586 that is beyond ridiculous that the center didn't tell you everything, I didn't call them first I called the regular customer service phone number first, where you follow the prompt to pick which dept to speak to (I got in the calworks line and thank God I was calling around the time they opened since that's when I made it to the ATM around 7:45am), and they told me everything I needed to do real quick, I called that number you're referring to afterwards, got my claim #, and then called the pd dept to get a claim # from them, and then went down to the office in person to get that form filled out and turned in and reviewed right there so I knew everything was in order. The first red flag was the over 30 day wait, because they tell you once you complete everything your funds should be readded between 10-21 days. I would have appealed that denial and got those other forms in. Maybe you still can if you remember everything

I did, I just had to make a police report. Trust me it was a process. Contact your local county office.

EBT cards are still using the magnetic strip only. They need to move the cards over to chip and contactless to close this specific skimming scheme.

If you never got paid make sure you have both claims numbrrs from both departments, and just go down to the office in person and try to meet with a worker to ask what you should do now because you still need those benefits back.
Same happened to me last year and no response and no refund. And guess what they did it to me again even after getting a new card .

If you receive cash assistance on a card be smart about it. Don't download the app that allows you to check your balance. Go to the ATM and withdraw everything on the day you receive it. Then pay all of your bills immediately with the cash from the ATM.

Never swipe your card if you can, tap or chip (they're both encrypted) and use electrical tape to mask the middle 8 digits of your CC that way a hidden camera can't get record the numbers.
This is irrelevant with EBT cards. Look at the actual brown EBT card at the start of the story - it has no chip.

The only way to avoid this if this has happened to you is to have it direct deposited to your own bank account, or a cashapp or a PayPal or anything. Never happened to me again after doing that.

@Simon since the ebt cards themselves are now liable to be skimmed, There's various options to receive your benefits. The EBT card (which we now know is unsecured), check that gets mailed to you, Or your own bank account.

Yeah this exact thing happened to me and my gf a few weeks ago. We eventually got the money back, but it was over 700$ we lost. It's scary to think that it could happen any other time.
It was probley immigrants there all coming here using a fake identity like the cops want to hunt them down but some times it's easier said then done

It happened to me twice with no answers as to why or how, until finally the manager at my county office finally asked "is there a bank account that we can just direct deposit your benefits to? This is gonna keep happening to your EBT card". And gave my the official form for the request. Never happened again although I was pissed I had to go figure out where I could get benefits direct deposited to lol all I use is cashapp and PayPal, fortunately my PayPal was eligible.
Data aggregation is out of control in California. Workers at Social Security Administration, Banks, Credit Reporting businesses, Phone & Internet companies, Landlords, Court Records, Dept. of Social Services, Dept. Motor Vehicles, College & University Financial Aid, Grocery stores, in addition to many other government agencies sell information as a side hustle. Its packaged into aggregate reports and then sold. This information can be sold to crooks and also be useful for marketing purposes. Why isn't the California Attorney General enforcing that data aggregation predators be limited to the most recent 7 years of information and no access to social security numbers?
eb cards must have the acct numbers and pins when you swipe it its stored and then approved or not your talking something else channge the pin and the ebt wont work for the crook it needes to be reskimmed
This has been happening. I got mine stolen in November 2021 along with thousands of others. I filed a police report filed paperwork with social services but they don't care and I never got my money back. I had to borrow money because I had none.

In my county I was told they just say that to encourage people to take extra precaution in receiving benefits like getting it direct deposited to your own bank to prevent wire fraud or skimming... Because it happened to me 3 months straight this year alone. I had the same fear and thought that policy could not be real lol how y'all gonna hold it against me when I haven't done anything wrong
And your comment is exactly what lead me to believe back then it's them on the distribution side that's doing it. The actual cash aid benefit center/distribution office. The people you have to call and report this to when it happens. Or at least that's what a caseworker for my county told me.

There was still $300.00 on her card. Then 2 days later she noticed the $300 was gone. She called back and said the scammer now took the rest of her money. The person said that the guy who she reported it to did not cancel the card and send a new one. Total stolen is over $1200.00 now.

I'd recommend her to not ever have her cash benefits put on that EBT card ever again. Use Cashapp, PayPal, Venmo ANYTHING. plus you'll get paid earlier anyway. And never trust the mail system! My mail man has just been fired and punished for stealing and withholding mail for me and various other tenants in my apartments. Go to the office and pick it up. Waiting in line is much better than waiting all month, waking up on payday and your entire check is gone. Gotta be more thorough about your money

I called to stop it because for I'm in the bay area for two I never signed up for assistance let alone assistance in LA I don't even go to LA. I should tho I've been missing auditions.

Had to get a New Card, a Pin Code & File 4 Police Reports to present to the State to get back Money Stolen from me.

Spent Very Little, then I got Hacked in July & August, which Totaled Over 2 Grand on the Card, after that, I Took the Monthly EBT Cash Out from the Check Cashing Place that handles EBT, then some Bastards Drained the $900.00 from my EBT Snap & left me Freaking 79 Cents in that Account.
After that I had to Replace my Card & get a New Pin #.

I replaced my card also (just in case) different account number and different magnetic strip (+ new password) so change your card they will do it on the spot.. it takes time (even an hour) but in Brooklyn it takes minutes

This happened to me with my Food Stamps in August and my son-in-laws cash aid this month. Like the lady in the video my card never left my possession. I made a claim with EBT and was denied.

So when my funds were stolen I called the EBT customer service number and reported it, they gave me a claim # and said I now wait for a response. I never received one. I called two months later and was told my claim was denied. No one ever told me any other instructions. I found out on my own u have to feel out a for for the theft and make a police report if it was cash aide
@@michelleraygosa8586 that is beyond ridiculous that the center didn't tell you everything, I didn't call them first I called the regular customer service phone number first, where you follow the prompt to pick which dept to speak to (I got in the calworks line and thank God I was calling around the time they opened since that's when I made it to the ATM around 7:45am), and they told me everything I needed to do real quick, I called that number you're referring to afterwards, got my claim #, and then called the pd dept to get a claim # from them, and then went down to the office in person to get that form filled out and turned in and reviewed right there so I knew everything was in order. The first red flag was the over 30 day wait, because they tell you once you complete everything your funds should be readded between 10-21 days. I would have appealed that denial and got those other forms in. Maybe you still can if you remember everything
