I wonder what happens if you pick it up? Are those spikes sharp enough to puncture our skin?
I haven't tried to pick up any echidna, as they are wild animals, but I did touch the spikes, they don't feel as they would puncture skin. I just love watching them wonder around the property and eat ants. Some of them are so use to us that they go right to our feet or the front door.
prickly as I've had to help a few off the highway.
They tend to hold onto the ground very effectively. The spines sit fairly flat, so you can usually try to pick them up without puncturing yourself, but you will rarely succeed - they jam their paws into the ground and brace, and hold on very tight.

Most animals have extremely good health so when you laugh or talk it is loud to them. Whisper.
thanks for your comment, Erika is actually very used to us, we can talk to her, walk by her stand next to her, and even touch her, she won't get scared or bothered by us. She is a wild animal, but accustomed to us by visiting us for number of years now. It's a very rare and special relationship.
