Avaldsnes is a village in Karmøy municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. Avaldsnes is believed to have been named after the legendary King Augvald, who allegedly had his seat in the area surrounding the Karmsundet strait.

This royal hall was here that there was an ancient centre of power at Avaldsnes. At this point, the shipping route is forced into a narrow passage that runs along Avaldsnes. It is likely this for this reason that such power and riches were generated through the ages. King Harald Fairhair chose Avaldsnes for his main royal estate in about 870 making it the oldest royal seat in Norway. According to legend, Olav Trygvason built Avaldsnes Church, apparently as a manor chapel for the king's residence. This would probably have been quite a small stave church. Construction of the present day church, called "St. Olav's Church" was started approximately 1250 AD, on the order of King Håkon Håkonsson. It was not completed until nearly 1320. Dedicated to St. Olav, it was one of the greatest Norwegian stone churches from the Middle Ages and it was one of only four royal collegiate churches in Norway. The church was an important station of the Pilgrim's Route to Nidaros which ran along the coast.

The history of early Northern Europe is such a dark and beautiful mystery. If you were to create a film/mini series. What would it be about? With the success of Vikings and Vikings: Valhalla. There is definitely a thirst for a historically accurate depiction of this time! A well written and balance screenplay depicting this time chronologically may open more eyes to the truth.

Trolls: Are giants or dwarves that have long pointy noses, ears that hang down pass their chests, skinny looking, have rough skin, have canine jaws, can blend into the trees as camouflage, they have different skin colors that are different from a normal human, sometimes they have branches that grow on their skin. They can shapeshift into rocks. They can only show themselves to heroes of mythology, demigods, and deities. Trolls will not show themselves to any mortal being. Any mortal being cannot see a troll. Trolls is what makes nature of animals, waterways, ponds, rocks, and trees. Trolls live in Midgard. Its to explain the rocks and stones in Scandinavia. Is this the correct physical appearance description of a troll in the original Old Norse myths before Christianity took over Scandinavia? Is this true?

There's been an argument going on lately about Mongolian throat singing being used to portray in viking media. Some argue that there was no throat singing being done because the implication of it could've existed doesn't mean that it existed and that pop culture just perpetuates a fantasy of cultural shift of artistic depiction. On the other hand, some believe that throat singing was present due to it being a completely valid possibility that people could've used it. However, there isn't much influence that preceded on the rest of Europe and that our idea of viking music is entirely hollywood dramatized orientalism. But now seeing that the first Norse Capital had Mongolian influence, the possibility that it could've been present remains. I also wonder what Scythian music sounded like, which would've been the tether between Europe and Mongolia.

@@sarahgilbert8036 They are the "ethnic minority", but they are not the ethnic majority. The northernmost parts of Norway was covered with ice and nigh unlivable. I am naturally speaking well before the Viking age then. Bronze age and such. So if we look at the borders of Norway as it stands right now, the people coming from the south western parts of Norway would technically be more ancient ethnic people of Norway as a whole. They were the first to settle here. However the Sami are definitely the ethnic people of Northern Norway as they lived there before the borders stretched to the point where they are now. But the point remains, many mistake the Sami as being an equivalent of Native Americans.. as if the pre-Viking era people forced them away.. but the reality is that anything basically south of Bodø was always the Germanic Norwegian people's areas. They didn't push anyone away because they were the first to settle there.
It is important to make this distinction as to not make people mistake that Sami people lived further south and were forced further and further North by settlers. There were no one there to "push" North. The Sami people came from eastern parts. Russian territories today and might have been from Mongolian areas further back.

ik u said u need to make vids that r entertaining and also other vids for hist nerds. imo i dont think ai pics really contribute tho. even tho when watching tv ppl expect entertainment, they still watch a history related vid to learn a little something. so as many real pics as u can will help. this vid in particular was kind of hard to follow. when u write an essay, at the beginning of each paragraph u refer back to the thesis statement of the essay, and how u will prove it true with the info in this paragraph. the reader is reminded of the thesis at intervals, and this helps hold all the facts together into one continuous story. its not that this vid seems rushed it just seems like ur leaning more toward mr beastism with trying to pack info into every seconds in order to retain viewership. id say, if u want more 'entertaining' content, then perhaps branch out into history-related content and videos, instead of just pure history. like when i think of entertaining history, i think of the american history channel, and for me, a nerd, that is unwatchable. but lots of non nerds enjoy it. idk what other kind of viking history related content vids could be done that are more on the side of entertainment but u def know better than me. on the flip side, primitive technology is a channel that has never sold out or lowered his content quality standards. he had a great, creative idea, and he made it big. no soy face thumbnails, no pandering. i bet if u can find that creative content and idea u wont need to use "shinier wrapping paper" (stock images, editing, zooms, visual effects, etc). ofc shinier wrapping paper can be useful at times.
