I feel like its easier to notice punts when you're watching magic as opposed to playing it. When you're playing, it's easy to get tunnel vision and miss some things that could have changed the game. I have a great amount of respect for someone that can play multiple different decks every week and maintain the win rates you do.
While what you said is true, the real problem is that Seth just plays too damn fast, he doesn't think his plays through and usually goes for the first acceptable play that pops on his mind, just to realize that there was a better play 2 seconds later or that he made a huge mistake. If he thought about his plays for more than half a second those punts would happen way less often, because he IS a very skilled player.
Felipe Rodrigues , I can see this as a streaming and/or video editing thing. Seth's videos are fun to watch because they are constantly moving. Part of this is his personality, but part of it is that you don't get five minute lulls where he breaks down every possible line from a single board state to calculate the statistical odds and winning potential for each.
Felipe Rodrigues eh, he streams what, twice a week? In addition to against the odds, much abrew, budget magic and until recently commander clash? I'm willing to cut him some slack.
I find it comforting that even with all the games that you've played that you still make simple mistakes. Folks always tear you apart in the comments about it, but being in the moment it's rather easy to miss things especially if your hyperfocusing on one particular aspect of the game state. Although I do watch your videos not for the stellar play (lol) but for the entertaining way you seem to make the games play out
The opponent would have snap-command in response killing Liliana. Not saying it wasn't the correct play, just that in that specific game it wouldn't have worked.
Actually it would have worked if he didn't tick Liliana down at 17:08, as the KC would not cause enough damage to kill the planeswalker. It might have been too greedy, but it's easy to say that in retrospect.
Elspeth Tribal could definitely work, as well as Sorin; there's also enough Ajanis that I think it could work if you've got a resilient creature they could all pump up (Ajani Cheer Squad could be the deck name). I think there's a lot that can be done with Planesalkers which have two or three printings, like Vraska, Kiora, or Nicol Bolas. Tamiyo could work too, and playing both Tamiyos in a Doubling Season deck could be really funny, especially if you pull off both Tamiyo Ultimates simultaneously.
Please tell Tomer to edit less confusingly. The Urborg in your hand during match 2 magically disappeared and I'm completely and totally baffled as to where it went.
Hey, Seth! I just wanted to thank you for all the great content you put out. I struggle with depression pretty seriously, and your videos, articles, and all that jazz really help when I'm feeling down. So, thanks. Thanks a bunch.
Oh no, Seth, baby, what is you doing :( ? At 40:20~ you could have fired up Mutavault, ticked down your Liliana of the Dark Realms to pump it and thus win the game on the spot while your opponent was out of cards.
Thoughtseize + Inquisition + removal and threats is and has always been one of the best strategies in Modern. You picked different threats and removal, but you basically played a tier modern deck.
That is often what happens in Against The Odds videos with Modern staples in it though. Seth winning games not such much because of the Against The Odds cards but because of the other stuff making the deck at least somewhat viable. This time at least the Lilianas are what closed out/won the game and did a decent job of helping, too, I guess.
Sure, but he was wondering how he won. I think "well your deck isn't that different than the Death's Shadow and Jund decks" is a reasonable explanation.
the thing is that black most modern staples. But not only that, they are mandatory, unlike in other colors, for example blue, where Snapcaster mage and Serum visions aren't a must in some decks (like merfolk). But Inquisition/Thoughtseize, Fatal push, Liliana of the Veil, just make your deck better than if it would be without these cards.
35:14 You can take SSG and Surgical it. Then they need millions of mana to go off and cast a Lightning Storm or Lab man in the same turn. Not an auto win by any means, but buys you a lot of time and disrupts them alot more than taking a random cantrip.
He missed something even more obvious: At 40:20~ he could have fired up Mutavault, ticked down his Liliana of the Dark Realms to pump it and thus win the game on the spot while his opponent was out of cards.
Will you do a Chandra tribal? She's the last of the removal colors. Nissa and Jace tribal won't be able to remove creatures so they might be too Against the Odds for Against the Odds.
In the second game of the first match when you were searching for swamps with Liliana, why didn't you play the Bloodstained Mire instead of the Swamp so you could reduce the chance of drawing another land next turn?
Oh, no, Seth will definitely live that down (if for no other reason than him punting even harder in the future and thereby making us forget this particular instance).
Wondering why you crack your fetch lands when you have an Urborg. They're Swamps anyways, and it's not like you need to deck thin when you have OG Lilliana to tutor for you.
I feel like you could add a splash of green to this deck to really push it over the edge. Literally just a playset of Overgrown Tombs would be enough with all the fetches and LotDR to find them, and it shores up the biggest problems the deck had to no end by letting you add Artifact/enchantment hate, Abrupt Decays and maybe even an Ishkanah to the sideboard for the grindier match ups. Otherwise, the deck is super sweet xD
Black/White Gideon/Liliana Tribal seems sweet. You can pump out Gideon Jura or Gideon, Ally of Zendikar with the Sol land and protect your walkers with Lingering Souls and Wall of Omens. Seems good to me.
hey Seth, the video was great -as always. As for the deck, why didn't you try to splash red for dreadbore and kholagan's command? to deal better with pw and the rack
Seth, you should do an oddball tribal. With cards like Xenagos and Domri Rade. Try and fit as many off story planeswalkers into a cohesive deck. Maybe BRG with vraska's too?
We definitely should try out planeswalker tribal for each Gatewatch member. See how each one plays out. Then we should probably try other planeswalkers that have a lot of versions. Like Sorin and Garruk.
I gotta say planeswalkers do create some amazing card advantage you don't really realize how much until you are mono-PW. Definitely some legit flood insurance. Also please tell me you are planning to do Jace tribal! Jace tribal with the 2/1 flier pirate from KLD would be awesome
To be fair I would have probably dropped the second urborg as well. Nothing going on and playing too quickly. I do stuff like that when I punt as well. Awesome deck, looks fun. Wish I had the lotv's
The punts were too awful to be seen in an uncompressed, full 1080p video. For the safety of us all it was removed and 720p was the highest resolution deemed safe enough for viewing.
During game 2 of grixis death's shadow you could have played Liliana of the Veil targeting yourself to sacrifice the great Merchant and then bringing it back with the other Liliana
You might want to try to use blood crypt if you want a red splash to deal with artifacts like rack better. I was thinking Kolaghan's. Otherwise you might be able to go godless shrine to have something like Fragmentize/disenchant whatever as a sb to hit most of everything annoying that isn't blood moon. Splashing might be too ambitious and too unreliable though. Im not sure.
Yeah, I noticed that, too. I mean there is an argument to be made for thinning the deck, I guess, but it probably does not matter enough to justify essentially tapping out and giving your opponent the chance to react.
If he wanted to thin his deck, Seth could cracked the fetch on his upkeep. He's not going to be getting a shock land because his deck is mono-black, so it's not like waiting till his upkeep is going to cost him an extra 2 life.
Considering how punt-happy Seth can be, it's ever so fascinating to notice how the chat during his livestreams doesn't seem to know what a punt even means.
Elspeth tribal could be good. Go into green for ramp and value creatures ,then hit four mana and drop game winning planes walkers all the way to six mana.
garruk tribal seems like it would be sweet since starting at 4 he has strong walkers all the way up the curve, might be hard to balance the garruks vs the creature pay off something like primal hunter and caller of beasts would like. maybe cut caller and just be a weird g/b token deck. but anyway need that big ol 7 mana garruk to crack down on all this planeswalker hankypanky
The only thing I don't understand in that Urborg-situation is how Seth is a really slow player, often only having few minutes left on the clock and then he is so hasty again. Playing without thinking for a second.
Liliana Tribal is an easy to play, hard to master deck. You had a couple of misplays in this video. But with more experience you can catch your missed lethals and misplays more.
mjbentley100 OG Jace, mermoy adapt, AoT, unrevealer of secrets, filp jace, keep in n mind the best version of Jace is banned. And I won't list the deck version of Jace unless someone really would bother. But the new one makes it so someone should have enough options to me.
The problem with Jace tribal is that most Jace walkers have little to no effect on the board, while Lily has removal abilities and Gideon can beatdown, so I doubt Jace tribal will work as well, but hey, stranger things have happened.
my best guess is that it will end up being a really janky mill or control deck. ive tried to put together a few lists but most of them are sub par at best. but I was also trying to use all the "jace" cards ie... jace's phantasm and jace's mindseeker. so maybe with just the walkers, and some good counter magic. it might be good :/
he does have a few bad cards ie... the living guildpact, and the new deck jace (which I still think looks pretty cool although its not viable) but jace historically has some of the best cards ie... jtmc (banned), jace beleren, jace architect of thought, Flip jace... I even enjoy jace "anime" adept in my janky mill/turbo fog decks. there is also unraveler of secrets which is ok.
I feel like its easier to notice punts when you're watching magic as opposed to playing it. When you're playing, it's easy to get tunnel vision and miss some things that could have changed the game. I have a great amount of respect for someone that can play multiple different decks every week and maintain the win rates you do.
Mud2hunter Wow, somebody who isn't triggered by mistakes? You're rare my friend.
I have that issue, too, Felipe, but at least I am working on it unlike Seth, apparently, who has been like that for years on camera :P

Why you not use Liliana to bring gray merchant from grave? 22:50
Vitor Donizetti because blah blah theres a better line of blah
The punt was real
Or why not pump the Mutavault at 40:20~ to win the game on the spot while the opponent was out of cards?
I find it comforting that even with all the games that you've played that you still make simple mistakes. Folks always tear you apart in the comments about it, but being in the moment it's rather easy to miss things especially if your hyperfocusing on one particular aspect of the game state. Although I do watch your videos not for the stellar play (lol) but for the entertaining way you seem to make the games play out
Seth at 17:27 you could have damnationed, killing your grey merchant, then brought it back with lili -2 and won the next turn.
he even knew gray merchant was the win but I dont know how he couldnt see this line
It might have been too greedy, but it's easy to say that in retrospect.
ya i think that tick down at 17:08 was a little unecessary
Diogo V. Kersting but the effect still resolves, even if lili dies. He only needed 1 drain, so it's still ok
JustAnotherPest it just moved over to the left...
Its in the graveyard because of legendary rule.
Pretty sure he knows man, it was a joke.
JustAnotherPest
If you accuse Seth about editing punts you have to give us the time so we can judge XD
Ahh ok 13:38 (caution loud volume) its the same punt , I was thinking Seth did it a second time and edited for true. Could be hilarious.
Speaking of planeswalker tribal, garruk tribal would be sweet!
Hey, Seth! I just wanted to thank you for all the great content you put out. I struggle with depression pretty seriously, and your videos, articles, and all that jazz really help when I'm feeling down. So, thanks. Thanks a bunch.
13:41: This enraged his chat, who punished him severely
22:05 Seth please!
Also, 40:20, Seth please!
Tezzerate there are 4 if you include the planeswalker deck version, and all focuses on artifacts, course Garruk would be sweet
Jamie Kuryla that shit would be freaking awesome even then six drop tezzer and the original one.
Yeah that was what i was thinking probably like tezzerator's out there but lets get this going to see
4 years later and Seth running out a second Urborg in his excitement is still hilarious.
Oh that poor Urborg Seth...
Andres Trejo Reynaga he just snapped it off ;)
Oh no, Seth, baby, what is you doing :( ? At 40:20~ you could have fired up Mutavault, ticked down your Liliana of the Dark Realms to pump it and thus win the game on the spot while your opponent was out of cards.
I love when Seth knows he punted and jokes about editing that part out. Gets me every time :)
Thoughtseize + Inquisition + removal and threats is and has always been one of the best strategies in Modern. You picked different threats and removal, but you basically played a tier modern deck.

Awesome deck. That price tag though, wowza. Thank you for playing this, as I'll never be able to w/o proxies at my kitchen table.
"OH MY GOODNESS!" I freaking adore Seth.
For real. I would buy voiced Seth plushies with things like that as catchphrases.
Damnation against an opponent at 1 when you can cast Liliana, Death's Majesty with a Gary in the GY? Good lord Seth
Not only that, but then YOU NUKE YOUR OWN GRAVEYARD
I noticed this too and stopped watching. Can't handle these type of misplays anymore
Simple unacceptable.... Seth you need to live stream these videos so I can yell at you bia chat
He missed something even more obvious: At 40:20~ he could have fired up Mutavault, ticked down his Liliana of the Dark Realms to pump it and thus win the game on the spot while his opponent was out of cards.
Sam Matthias goodbye then
Now is left to do chandra tribal, nissa tribal and jaces tribal to complete a cicle of tribal gatewatch decks! lol
can't wait for jace tribal to just be the doubling season combo deck
Ajani too
Garruk maybe? Tezzeret?
Ajani tribal, garruk tribal
And Elspeth and Tezzeret tribal
At 9:39 you could have bloodstained mire, than fetched triggering revolt to fatal push the Mirran crusader instead of spending your board wipe on it
At 26:00 couldn't he -2 Liliana death majesty for the merchant
@seth at 17:30 you could've just used damnation killing tasigur and snapcaster, that made me scream more then the punt with the land.
Will you do a Chandra tribal? She's the last of the removal colors. Nissa and Jace tribal won't be able to remove creatures so they might be too Against the Odds for Against the Odds.
Stoked to see what you would do for Chandra Tribal ( chandras , bloodmoons and skread?)
22:45 Could you not have paid the mana for the stubborn denial?
If we're suggesting no synergy planeswalker tribal decks, 4-colour Sarkhan tribal?
In the second game of the first match when you were searching for swamps with Liliana, why didn't you play the Bloodstained Mire instead of the Swamp so you could reduce the chance of drawing another land next turn?
Your punts are what make your videos so entertaining!! Keep punting!! Love you Seth! 😂
Tomer didn't edit that out you will never live that down
Oh, no, Seth will definitely live that down (if for no other reason than him punting even harder in the future and thereby making us forget this particular instance).
3:57 "Lets bring in Ratchet Brombs"
Why did you not tutor for the last liliana in the last match. Winning< having all the lilianas
Sweet. Do tribal Ajani next(Nayajani lol). You have the oath too
I really like these videoes, you did a good job. If later iterations of the deck comes Oath Liliana would be a good buffer with zombies.
Wondering why you crack your fetch lands when you have an Urborg. They're Swamps anyways, and it's not like you need to deck thin when you have OG Lilliana to tutor for you.
Hey Seth the recent against the odds r really good. Good to see the quality improve in recent weeks compare the the slum ur in in the last few weeks
Black/White Gideon/Liliana Tribal seems sweet. You can pump out Gideon Jura or Gideon, Ally of Zendikar with the Sol land and protect your walkers with Lingering Souls and Wall of Omens. Seems good to me.
19:00 you could say that Lilliana was the deathshadow's player last hope
hey Seth, the video was great -as always.
It makes me happy to see someone running 8-rack. Love it.
mandatory mention of possible win with dark realms -3 to buff vault at 40:24
This was hilarious to watch. You should just do a side-series with a tribal deck for each Gatewatch member :D
How about a Tezzeret tribal deck?
Please make a curse deck?
Did they change the legendary rule for PWs? I'm so confused

What happen to 1080p?
The punts were too awful to be seen in an uncompressed, full 1080p video. For the safety of us all it was removed and 720p was the highest resolution deemed safe enough for viewing.
Have you considered Heart of Kiran?
So are you doing UB Jaces next?
2:25 why would you tick up there....
During game 2 of grixis death's shadow you could have played Liliana of the Veil targeting yourself to sacrifice the great Merchant and then bringing it back with the other Liliana
Surprised your not trying the torment of Hailfire with dark realms ultimate
gets second urborg after needing one more mana. plays it before tapping. "YES YES. OHHH. ....... ........ I'm so stupid" lolol classic seth moment.
Couldn't he search with an extract with lili vessy, for a freewin?
Why no poll?
"WITH THE POWERS OF LILLIANA COMBINED!" - Quote from Seth-better-known-as-saffron-olive
How can he have multiple lilies?
Seth!! Please play Chandras in Modern and Jaces in Legacy!! :D
Anyone else wonder why this is only in 720p?
16:30 You had an urborg out. You didn't have to crack the fetch ignorer to crack the relic.
While you're running Dark Realms, red fetches, and Urborg, might as well play cut to ribbons, no?
Have you ever ended up playing against one of your own ATO decklists while recording one of these videos?
Why is it 720p :|
Play the Gatewatch first. Nissa next please. Nissa, Vastwood Seer and Nissa, Worldwaker are my favorite cards ever. Love you Seth!
I feel like torment of hailfire would work. Especially with the dark realms emblem.
Do Chandra tribal next!
bhomer77 with blood moon and flip Chandra, m13, ablaze, Torch, and OG Chandra. Throw in some blots n shock
Surgical on Spirit guide is pretty sweet. Really messes up the combo
I feel like a single Newlamog doesn't hurt, between Dark Realms and Death's Majesty, you shouldn't have difficulty getting it into play.
"un-tie-die-kay" is the closest i can think of for the pronunciation for Untaidaike Seth
Considering how punt-happy Seth can be, it's ever so fascinating to notice how the chat during his livestreams doesn't seem to know what a punt even means.
13:40 for urborg punt
u should try that gideon deck again now that the new planeswalker rule is a thing
Elspeth tribal could be good. Go into green for ramp and value creatures ,then hit four mana and drop game winning planes walkers all the way to six mana.
so when is tribal jace? I am asking for a friend lol
Although it'd probably be bad, I want to see an Against the Odds: Chandra Tribal deck
what software is this?
garruk tribal seems like it would be sweet since starting at 4 he has strong walkers all the way up the curve, might be hard to balance the garruks vs the creature pay off something like primal hunter and caller of beasts would like. maybe cut caller and just be a weird g/b token deck. but anyway need that big ol 7 mana garruk to crack down on all this planeswalker hankypanky
How good of a character do you think Liliana is?
The only thing I don't understand in that Urborg-situation is how Seth is a really slow player, often only having few minutes left on the clock and then he is so hasty again. Playing without thinking for a second.
Damn deaths shadow player with the crack a fetch to hold priority play nice.
Time stamp?
Take up Liliana is the new "hit our swans"
It would be morbid if you have a torment of hell fire. Ultimate Liliana(mana) + XX torment of hellfire!. Sweet.
Let's see some Sorin Tribal next!
40:29 use her -3 on mutavault and win...
what a great idea for a deck!
Also gotta say I
Some love for poor, cursed, forgotten Garruk would be sweet
I liked this video purely for living the dream in game 3 vs ad nauseam. Way to be, you go girl.
i'M GLAD TOMER LEFT THAT URBORG PUNT IN. SHAAAAMMMMEE. lmao
Buff mode of dark realms is massively underrated here
13:45 good lord Seth
Hey Seth Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is Legendary
Liliana Tribal is an easy to play, hard to master deck. You had a couple of misplays in this video.
But with more experience you can catch your missed lethals and misplays more.
Jace tribal? He does have the most planeswalker cards...
mjbentley100 OG Jace, mermoy adapt, AoT, unrevealer of secrets, filp jace, keep in n mind the best version of Jace is banned. And I won't list the deck version of Jace unless someone really would bother. But the new one makes it so someone should have enough options to me.

And some of the worst ones.
he does have a few bad cards ie... the living guildpact, and the new deck jace (which I still think looks pretty cool although its not viable) but jace historically has some of the best cards ie... jtmc (banned), jace beleren, jace architect of thought, Flip jace... I even enjoy jace "anime" adept in my janky mill/turbo fog decks. there is also unraveler of secrets which is ok.
