    Do any of you people read the comments before asking the same question that has been asked MANY times already? - - -The pot repair was intended as an example of what could be done with the liquid plastic. I venture to say that everyone knows the pot is a $1.25 item. If you and your dad mixed spit and iodine together, then make a video and leave this guy alone. Same goes for all of the negative comments, MAKE YOUR video about how to use a razor knife. 😮😮😮

    Thank you. This opens a world of possibilities for me.
    The coloring technique can be improved using more pure pigments like those used in watercolors. Maybe acrilic paint or gouache might work… I will have to try. Or leave it clear and paint later.
    Also the making technique. You could have doubled the tapes with pliable cardboard like that from cereal packaging.

    Make a simple piping bag to get the liquid plastic into the narrow space. Don't reuse the bag for icing a cake though! Put the liquid plastic into a small but tough plastic bag - like a ziplock bag. Close the bag, squeezing all the air out as you do so. Then force the mixture into the bottom corner. Snip off a triangle at the bottom of that corner. Start small when cutting the hole. You can always enlarge it as needed. Then put the corner tip at the bottom of your mould. If your bag is too fat to get into the space, move some of the contents to make it thinner. Open the ziplock if you need to let out more air. Squeeze the bag to release the contents, moving upwards as you fill the space. Much easier than using a trowel-like instrument to try and force the mixture into the mould.

    I literally did EXACTLY what you said to do in this video. I cut up an old clear cd case and put in clear glass jar with 100% acetone for 2 days. It did not turn into liquid but just clumped the plastic together. Again, I did exactly what you said to do.

    • @YouCanTelevision
      @YouCanTelevision  Месяц назад

      Probably, there is something wrong with your acetone. Usually, if you pour acetone on plastic, it starts to melt right away, so, in 30 minutes you would have liquid plastic. If your plastic just clumped the plastic together, the "strength" of your acetone is not enough. Check this. I didn't falsify anything in this video

    Ацетон расстворяет именно АБС пластик. Хотя сам находится в пластковой бутылке из другого вида пластика) Так же АБС пластик разрушается от ульрафиолета. Через пару лет на подоконнике горшок становится хрупким и легко ломается.
    Такой пластиковый горшок стоит один доллар. Возможно проще купить новый горшок и пересадить растение.

    It's nothing new. We have been using it for years in the field of 3D printing, it is called "ABS juice" precisely because the material that acetone can dissolve is abs (it can also be used with polycarbonate and polystyrene). There are 3 levels of ABS juice or similar, i.e. with 2 other types of materials, based on the type of use, the ratio of acetone is entered to have a liquid type for coating, up to a filling paste. acetone in 3d printing is also used to polish abs prints with vapors. It is also used in the 1:3 form to coat exposed cable areas or tool handles.

      Hello! Thank you for your questions! Here are my replies:
      1. It depends on how tight you close the lid of the container. I would say 1-2 weeks maximum. It's better to prepare a "fresh" melted plastic each time you want to use it.
      2. I think yes, as the liquefied plastic gets hardened as soon as acetone evaporates. But I think the "quality" of such plastic glue would be worse
      3. You need to try this, I did not try.

      It's either ethyl acetate and isopropyl alcohol [which takes for ever to remove nail polish verses acetone] Or Acetone and ethyl acetate
      The other and less common "Acetonitrile" can also be used as a nail polisher remover, it's highly toxic banned in the EU since 2000 I would use that ever.

    I'm curious as to;
    shelf life for mixture ? Cure times by various percent of acetone to plastic ?

    • @YouCanTelevision
      @YouCanTelevision  Год назад +7

      Here are my answers to your examination questions: Shelf life for the mixture - I would say 1-2 weeks, not more, depending on how tight you close the lid of the container. I did not test the cure times by various percent of acetone, but if you use 100% acetone, the cure time depends on how thick the layer of the liquid plastic, from 3-4 hours to 24-48 hours. The more thick the plastic layer is the more time you would need to have it cured

    А можно было бы припаять назад кусочек отлетевшего пластика паяльником с регулировкой температуры. Было бы быстрее, чем ждать пока ацетон испариться и образуется пористый пластик вместо жидкого.

    • @YouCanTelevision
      @YouCanTelevision  Год назад +2

      Можно было бы, но этот кусочек где-то потерялся и я хотел проверить, как можно нарастить пластик с помощью именно этого метода.

    Wish I’d known that CD case plastic was the right stuff! Would have saved me a lot of time last year when I needed to repair a kitchen tool!
    I in the US, and I DID get nail polish remover to work, but I had to get the better quality stuff, *without* additives for “nourishing” your nails.
    But now I know I just need to raid my CD case collection! 😂

    • @YouCanTelevision
      @YouCanTelevision  Год назад +2

      Thank you for commenting, yes, knowledge is the power. To get the plastic liquefied you need highly concentrated acetone, close to 100%. I do not know what is the acetone concentration in nail polish. Good luck with your experiments!

    The mixture has also been used to provide a water-resistant surface for lures made of balsa wood. The amount of acetone in the mixture is higher when used a lure varnish. So varnish is more like liquid than glue state like in this video. Tnx for video! 😊

    Your mould is too flimsy to support the plastic. Better use thin balsa wood wrapped in clear tape. As the mould is very narrow, a syringe would come in handy. And it could help to remove the plant before the repair…
