Do any of you people read the comments before asking the same question that has been asked MANY times already? - - -The pot repair was intended as an example of what could be done with the liquid plastic. I venture to say that everyone knows the pot is a $1.25 item. If you and your dad mixed spit and iodine together, then make a video and leave this guy alone. Same goes for all of the negative comments, MAKE YOUR video about how to use a razor knife. 😮😮😮

Hahahah dont working...fake😅
I been wondering the same things about several videos I've seen tonight. Came to conclusion many are lazy and mean
All I did in this video is not fake. You probably took the wrong type of plastic or your acetone is not 100% concentrated. Only ABS type of plastic can be liquefied with acetone
@@YouCanTelevisionHow much % of each one?

Make a simple piping bag to get the liquid plastic into the narrow space. Don't reuse the bag for icing a cake though! Put the liquid plastic into a small but tough plastic bag - like a ziplock bag. Close the bag, squeezing all the air out as you do so. Then force the mixture into the bottom corner. Snip off a triangle at the bottom of that corner. Start small when cutting the hole. You can always enlarge it as needed. Then put the corner tip at the bottom of your mould. If your bag is too fat to get into the space, move some of the contents to make it thinner. Open the ziplock if you need to let out more air. Squeeze the bag to release the contents, moving upwards as you fill the space. Much easier than using a trowel-like instrument to try and force the mixture into the mould.
Thank you for your detailed instruction. I hope it will help to those, who wants to repeat my experiment
Thanks for the tips
Thank you. This opens a world of possibilities for me.
The coloring technique can be improved using more pure pigments like those used in watercolors. Maybe acrilic paint or gouache might work… I will have to try. Or leave it clear and paint later.
Also the making technique. You could have doubled the tapes with pliable cardboard like that from cereal packaging.
Yes, thank you so much for your very practical suggestions
Love it, thank you.
Thank you for the video. In some countries industrial acetone has been banned. It is discreetly sold as ''paint remover''🤔The one that ladies use to remove nail polish will not work. While using chemicals always use protective gear; gloves etc. And do it in a well ventilated area.
Thank you for your contribution! The fact that acetone is banned in some countries was something new for me. And yes, safety is a top priority!

acetone sold at dollar tree fails for dissolving anything I've tried - over a dozen types of "plastics"

The mixture has also been used to provide a water-resistant surface for lures made of balsa wood. The amount of acetone in the mixture is higher when used a lure varnish. So varnish is more like liquid than glue state like in this video. Tnx for video! 😊

I have used super glue with baking soda for plastic repairs. Thank to your video I learned another technique. i bought the same acetone and it did nothing to styrofoam and other "plastics" did you have any luck? ... dollar tree is notorious for selling less than adequate products
Sorry to say I also had no success melting several plastics. Was it the acetone from dollar tree , or acetone from home depot give the same lame results?

In your experience, would this be better for plastic repairs than the ash/baking soda/dry cement with super glue method?
I would take the aloe out of the pot, wash the pot clean, make a proper mold and then fill the broken place with the mixture.👍
Yes, probably, this would be the better way of doing this repair

Might be an idea to coat the piece of clear tape that is going to be coated in the solution with oil, grease anything to make it unsticky. This will make the removal easier.
Yes, this may work! Thanks for sharing the idea!
Yep that's called a "Mold release!"- oil, powder, silicone or graphite that keeps plastic products from sticking to specific machine parts. It's also used in baking for cake pans!
Except that the clear tape has to seal on the outside of the repair section.

You could also heat a blade to further smooth out areas.
Yes, this is a good advise, I did not think about that when making the video!
I'm curious as to;
shelf life for mixture ? Cure times by various percent of acetone to plastic ?
Here are my answers to your examination questions: Shelf life for the mixture - I would say 1-2 weeks, not more, depending on how tight you close the lid of the container. I did not test the cure times by various percent of acetone, but if you use 100% acetone, the cure time depends on how thick the layer of the liquid plastic, from 3-4 hours to 24-48 hours. The more thick the plastic layer is the more time you would need to have it cured

I think it would be better to put the inner tape then put the liquid plastic and then squeeze it into shape with the outer tape. Regards
Yes, it's also possible. This method may be even easier than mine.
Thank you for your advise!
Hi @YouCanTelevision,
• how long does the melted CD cover last in the sealed container?
• Can you re-melt the hardened cut-off parts using the same method, or other compunds?
• Can the melted plastic be used on metal or other surfaces, or just onto another plastic material?
Appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks for the share!
Hello! Thank you for your questions! Here are my replies:
1. It depends on how tight you close the lid of the container. I would say 1-2 weeks maximum. It's better to prepare a "fresh" melted plastic each time you want to use it.
2. I think yes, as the liquefied plastic gets hardened as soon as acetone evaporates. But I think the "quality" of such plastic glue would be worse
3. You need to try this, I did not try.
Thank you for taking time to respond, @@YouCanTelevision ü Preparing a "fresh" mix and re-using hardened mixes are very useful info indeed.
is there a particular type of acetone required or could any type of acetone, say like consumer ones used for removing nail polish be used?
You would need 100% acetone, or close to this concentration. I do not know what is the concentration of acetone in nail polish, possibly its not 100%. I bought mine at a building materials store in the department, where oil paints solvents are sold.
@@rv_PH nail polish removers are not 100% acetone anymore, it hasn't been for years,
It's either ethyl acetate and isopropyl alcohol [which takes for ever to remove nail polish verses acetone] Or Acetone and ethyl acetate
The other and less common "Acetonitrile" can also be used as a nail polisher remover, it's highly toxic banned in the EU since 2000 I would use that ever.
Creativity is appreciated

It's nothing new. We have been using it for years in the field of 3D printing, it is called "ABS juice" precisely because the material that acetone can dissolve is abs (it can also be used with polycarbonate and polystyrene). There are 3 levels of ABS juice or similar, i.e. with 2 other types of materials, based on the type of use, the ratio of acetone is entered to have a liquid type for coating, up to a filling paste. acetone in 3d printing is also used to polish abs prints with vapors. It is also used in the 1:3 form to coat exposed cable areas or tool handles.
Thank you for this information! Very interesting!
Yeah! Nothing new for You; but For us the novice is cool stuff

Your idea is very good, but when pouring the mixture into the mold, you should use a syringe to pump it to make the patch smoother and easier to manipulate.❤️
Yes, thanks for your contribution! Using a syringe in this case would be more comfortable!
Your mould is too flimsy to support the plastic. Better use thin balsa wood wrapped in clear tape. As the mould is very narrow, a syringe would come in handy. And it could help to remove the plant before the repair…

Not everyone is the position at the moment to by a pot🤦
Pots are expensive. Also why throw away extremely polluting plastic when you can repair it. And do not talk about recycling: it just does not happen most of the time and you should know it.
I rarely say anything like that. However your comment is at best ignorant and stupid.
Nice😮. Puede servir para partes automotrices. Gracias

I honestly think to spend $1 for another flower pot would have been a much easier fix than going through what you did.
It's an example. You can do the same with anything else that's way more expensive. It seems to be quite good, and probably with a bit more of acetone it would have been more liquid and easier to fill.
örnek olsun diye yapmıştır,elinde o saksı vardir, pc,computer parçası olduğunu düşün,yada bir araba tamponu😉
Ah but most other plastic parts cost a lot more than a dollar and you often can’t get them . If you find them used they are in similar shape from sun damage and new has an eye watering price tag😥
or you can just buy a new plastic pot at a dollar store for like a buck
Yes, it's possible, but what I propose is more interesting!
@@YouCanTelevision no, what you propose is more time consuming and expensive unless you already have the materials. You don't even finish the repair to match the entire pot. It's basically an unfinished job on a cheap plastic pot. Nothing interesting about that
@@rodnyg7952Try not to be so anal. It's a technique which one day may come in handy. The flower pot is just for example. Now go away and start practicing being 12 years old. And you have a spelling test tomorrow.

@@cecilbrisley5185 how am I a literalist? You don't seem to understand that word. You may mean perfectionist. No, I'm much less than a perfectionist. I try to do the intelligent thing depending on situation. In this situation it's just cheaper, less time consuming to just buy a new one.
