- Taylor Rogers, a Houston area woman, has filed a lawsuit against the city of Santa Fe and two members of the Santa Fe Police Department after she claims officers held her face in a pile of fire ants during a 2021 arrest. "Ants are on my face, ants are getting on my face. Please, help," Rogers can be heard yelling in police camera footage. "How could y'all do this? Ants are on my face, please let go."
In the court document, Taylor Rogers names the City of Santa Fe, Santa Fe PD Sergeant Ruben Espinoza, and officer Christian Carranza are named as defendants. During a press conference Saturday, an attorney for Rogers claimed she was bitten by ants more than 300 times.

I am a Marine and laid on a fire ant mound once while shooting prone. Holy GOD it was unbearable and I took on all on my torso and almost went into shock from all the bites. I cant imagine my face and head being swarmed. Yeah. This is torture. 100%

Did I get this right? She made an illegal turn then refused to stop for police. Then she tried to back out of the school zone (I'm guessing to avoid the cop that was waiting for her) The cop decided she was endangering children so he slammed his car into her car to stop her...endangering her and the child in her car. (It will be interesting to see if he was actually protecting any kids nearby requiring this car crash intervention) Then they handcuffed her and pushed her face into a fire ant bed. She started screaming and telling them the ants were biting her. The cops were going to get her up quickly but she was squirming in pain (known in police documents as "resisting" police) so they pushed her face back into the ant bed for a while more. So physical injuries to the woman, possibly the child in the car, damage to the woman's car and damage to the police cruiser for an illegal turn & failure to stop. Now they have expensive lawsuit. These cops have anger issues! Sure, she should have stopped but that cop could have run her plate dealt with this later. De-escalation would have prevented pain, suffering and a lot of tax payer dollars.

I can’t imagine being bit by fire ants in the face. If I accidentally step on a fire ant hill and get bit, I immediately react so fast to get them off. Those bites hurt, sting and burn at the same time. Shame on those cops and hope they’re all held accountable.

When I first moved 2 Florida I got bit 4 the first time on my toe by a single ant. I jumped and yelled. Probably about 3 or 4 times worse than a honey bee sting.

😮A little definition of what a fire ant is. A fire ant is kind of like a little baby scorpion it's not the fire ant bite that gives you any trouble it has a stinger on its tail that injects Venom into you. As soon as an ant starts to bite it releases a pheromone that triggers the other ants to start biting. This is why they bite so fast and rapidly. There is another story on RUclips where a lady stepped on an ant hill with her foot but she apparently was allergic to them and she had less bites than this lady and she died. This lady here probably came close to death with having over 300 bites on her😮
This is cruel beyond belief to do that to this woman or anyone. I’ve been stung by one fire aunt and it hurt so bad so I couldn’t imagine hundreds of times. There are people who become police officers to do things like this, an excuse to hurt someone is not lawful. Shameful!

He absolutely has a lawful reason due to the fact that she is actively resisting arrest. Now the problem is at least 2 of the officers know for sure she is being bitten. The officer holding her down and the officer brushing the ants off of her arm so they don’t bit the officer holding her in the pile. He can try to claim he was using pain compliance however he still has a mandate to keep her safe and that was not keeping her safe. It was torture because of ego.

If they thought the treatment of Ms Rogers was not cruel and unusual, then these officers should be OK with getting the same, for 10x as long as they held her there. They were CLEARLY NOT affecting an arrest, he was just holding her on the hill.
They should all be arrested and charged. Disgusting! I hope this woman wins. I feel terrible for what she endured.
The other officers looked uncomfortable but were afraid to intervene with their Sergeant.
