  • Tyler O’Neill was once one of the most dynamic, most exciting young players in Major League Baseball. In his second full season at the MLB level, and the first in which he played more than 60 games. His incredible season resulted in an 8th-place finish in National League MVP voting, and had he stayed healthier, it’s likely he could have finished higher. O’Neill brought home his second consecutive Gold Glove, swiped 15 bags, and clobbered 34 homers. O’Neill was a legit 5-tool player and had seemingly cemented himself as one of the league’s rising young stars. Yet, not even three years later, the Cardinals traded him for a reliever with minimal MLB experience and a depth arm.
What on earth happened to Tyler O’Neill? To answer that question, we’ll have to go back to the beginning. Let's examine the rise, fall, and rebirth of Tyler O'Neill.

Always hoping the best for Tyler. If he isn’t hurt right now, concerned for his head. Hope he figures this life and baseball thing out.

Only halfway through, but love these type of long form video essays. Would love more like this. Perhaps a comprehensive breakdown of MO’s tenure could be a good video? If you break down every move he’s ever made (and moves he DIDNT make), he comes out looking far better than current Cardinal fans would believe…

That’s one on our radar! Hopefully we can get around to that! Glad you enjoyed this one.

      @@joshuajacobs7912 Incredible! Thanks Josh.
Ps, I appreciate your levelheaded reasoning about the team. I get so tired of the exaggerated talking heads and loudmouth fans on social media hammering away at the same dead horses. I like some other ones too, but you guys and Brendan are the 2 best pods in Cardinal nation right now

I already know O'Neill will likele gonna go for assets if we're near contention for the wildcard but man, he seems like he's found himself a home with the Sox and I'm all for keeping him - Your favorite Sox + Packy Naughton Fan
also really dig this differnt "short-long form" style video essay deep diving into the story of Cards (or former) Cards players. Keep up the quality work!

Everything depends on how motivated ONeil is. Maybe he learned some lessons from his time in STL about how important it is to be available for your team.
Sox fans will eat it up until he starts getting hurt or disinterested.

As a cards fan our issue is bigger. Mo needs fired leave O’Neil out of it. Look how many players the cards have basically gave away

It will not end good in Bean Town for him. he will be hurt at some point or the lack of pitch recognition will get him and the Boston fans won't be as nice as Cardinal fans

as a cards fan. we do not develop or maintain players like we used to. we are far behind the curve and it's showing. they're using an outdated model that doesn't work anymore and players are catching on. the "cardinals" organization is very outdated and they need to get new front office people that are with the times in there.
