Garmin released the Tacx NEO Motion Plates. The motion plates are meant to be mounted on existing NEO direct drive trainers and provide a fore-aft movement to complement the slight side-to-side rocking motion the NEO is known for. In this video, I will go over the installation, ride feel and are they worth getting?

Excellent review! I have been using the KOM rocker plate with bidirectional motion for about a year and I find that the motion is a huge improvement on long indoor rides. I am using an Elite Direto trainer so I imagine the Tacx NEO plates would not fit but they seem to have some real advantages in terms of price and lack of bulk. The KOM is huge, although weight has its benefit in terms of stablity, I guess, but the whole set-up is awkward for getting up on the bike and especially dismounting. I think the motion of the KOM is much more side-to-side than the motion plates give you here, although fore-and-aft may not be much different. In any event, as someone who spends hours (months, it seems!) on indoor training I would definitely recommend some kind of motion device.

They are definitely well designed for the NEO and require no additional space. The KOM is nice as well and glad you are enjoying your rocker plates. Appreciate the feedback and thank you for watching 🙏🏼

Amazing review! I’ve been wondering if smart trainers have reached peek innovation but these plates have had me thinking that maybe the next generation will have something like it built in and a locking mechanism. 🤞

We are seeing a bit more outside the box thinking. Looking forward to seeing what’s next to come for sure. Thanks for watching Matt 🙏🏼

The kinetic r1 has an in-built rocking mechanism. It seemed to be a nice implementation. I remember earing somewhere that they have patented that system which would explain why no major brands (wahoo, Garmin, elite) are coming up with similar ideas.

Their patent is ending soon. I can’t exactly remember when but it’s either this year or next. It’s too bad Kinetic is so behind in the smart trainer market and their latest Magene partnership isn’t going to do them any good.

Thanks for reviewing. I wonder if these plates could compromise or absorb some of the output wattage on the pedals or trainer?

Didn’t experience any difference when sitting on the saddle. But you will when sprinting out of the saddle because of the timing of the plates and pedal stroke won’t be in sync.

Alright, so YEAH or NEIGH? I want/need to bike longer indoors (2-5 hours). Will these help a little, moderately or A LOT?

I would expect a riser and maybe a fan at some point.

Very possible we will see either one or both. Tacx seems to think a little bit different than others so will see what they come up with next.

    Can't wait for Tacx's rolling-riser-steering. MSRP 2500$
Or you will be able to get it as a single package including the trainer and the motion plates for as little as 4000$.
