I use my grandmother’s dressing if I make my own: “salad dressing” (not mayo) & mix in some sugar to taste with some milk. She had it for our lettuce salads & coleslaw. It was & is delish! I’m 61 & she’s been gone for years, but I sure miss her.
Just found your channel and am going to go back and watch more videos. Love how you cook and the interaction between you and your husband. You’re so kind and respectful to each other. Very refreshing in this day and age. Thank you Karen for sharing all your great recipes.
For something that's only four ingredients, that broccoli salad looks really good! I know I wouldn't like raisins in it either, but I might try dried cranberries when I make it. The slight tartness would go well in that salad, I think.

With the smoke going south is a good idea. Think you would enjoy Key West. Hemingway’s house, fishing, Truman’s Little White House, the southern most point in the country, the lighthouse, the butterfly gardens. Lots to do. And good food, drink and music. Wherever you go look forward to hearing about it. Take lots of pictures!!

I live in Hampton Va. It’s about halfway between VA Beach and Williamsburg. We aren’t having any issues with smoke here. There is a lot to do here, Busch Gardens is up near Williamsburg. It’s an amusement park with plenty of entertainment if you don’t care for rides. A little farther north there is Luray Caverns which is nice. There you are going into the mountains and there are plenty of things to do.
I use oone cup of mayo, 1/4 cup of sugar(or less)and 2 tsp of white vinegar. Let it sit in the fridge for a few hours. Delish!
If y’all want to come to Florida- better get here before the hurricane season hits. Phew! LoL I’ve never been to the Keys, but can recommend St. Augustine- as a smallish trip.
For a Live, my mom used to make the best old-fashioned yellow rice and chicken (shredded). Nowadays, most the recipes call for white rice and/or a baked dish. Just an idea! Y’all’s supper looks so good. ❤ I’m gonna try the Broccoli Salad. My son loves Broccoli so it’s a Mom win. 😉

My daughter made an Old Fashioned Goulash recipe from Pinterest. Was a little different and very yummy.

Seems to me last year when you were going on holidays there was smoke as well iam in Abbotsford BC Canada and we haven’t had to much smoke ,yes very frustrating when you want to go somewhere and you can’t but enjoy your holiday dinner looks so good

That had to smell sooooo good cooking. Eating out is so expensive and you can control the quality of what you eat at home much better I think. We do eat out once in awhile when we are out doing errands and stuff. I always make my ranch....I like the buttermilk recipe one. Hello Karen. Those pork chops look deeeelicious! Will be trying your recipe. About the smoke … I live in San Antonio, TX and we are dealing with smoke blowing in from Mexico. This seems to happen once or twice a year due to agricultural fires (intentional). I wish we didn’t have to deal with that.
I use the mayonnaise, sugar, and vinegar in my broccoli salad yummy.

Came here to your channel from Momma Mel's channel to watch your video here. I live in Chester, Virginia and heard you say you and your husband were planning to come to Virginia on vacation. I also have asthma and smoke in the air affects me as well. It's not smokey up here in my area and I live about an hour's drive from Colonial Williamsburg. Come to Virginia, it's lovely up here.

I call those whipped potatoes. To me mashed ,need a masher ,like the "old folks" taught us. This is one of my favorite comfort dinners. Did you know they have powdered buttermilk? I keep it in my pantry because i can make the portion i need.

I usually add a couple good squirts of ranch dressing in my mashed potatoes along with butter/salt/pepper.

Karen I just subscribed to your channel I've been watching you cook for awhile now and I love your channel your so comfortable just being yourself anyway I was wondering if you have ever heard of or ever made dateloaf my grandmother used to make it when I was growing up it's different but I haven't eaten it in years and divinity pecan logs and homemade fudge they are all so good

Everything looks so delicious! I have an abundance of pork in my freezers, so I will try this pork recipe! Just wondering if you rinse your pork off? I always find little fragments of bone on the pork. I see some cooking channels where they take the chops and throw them in the pan! I don't understand! Lol. We have a small supermarket by us (we are in a rural area) and they mark meat down every day! So we pick it up and are pretty darn stocked! They always have their polish or Italian fresh sausage for 2.99 per lb. So good! It's been the same price for years. We are close to Ontario so hoping the smoke doesn't come this way. Last years fires we had an awful time with the smoke. We are in Michigan, close to Port Huron. Keep bringing us those great recipes! Also we have chickens and always trying to find creative ways to use the eggs!

I didn't use to, but like you say I felt those little fragments so I rinse now, all my package meats. Thanks for reminding people to do it
I rinse all my meats except for ground meats. You are so fortunate to be able to pick up marked down meats.
@@Nerophiliac i have a big family so when my kids visit I let them "shop" in my freezer. A few of them are in school still and struggling. I'm grateful I can do it for sure.

Hi Karen, I enjoyed this video..Those smothered pork chops look amazing..I’m in N Al and haven’t noticed any smoke.. It is very cloudy and nice and cool.. I’m sure it’s blackberry winter.. I can almost taste a cobbler..I’ve never been to Key West but my kiddos have and they love it.. Maybe I’ll get to go before too long.. My hubby doesn’t like the beach or sand so I’ll have to get a girlfriend to travel with me…
