Have you felt resentful about where you live or where you are in life? Let's talk about it in the comments. What has helped you overcome resentment?

I used to be very resentful. Then, I shifted my perspective. Now, I’m grateful for the home I have and at the same time, taking steps to move.
Gratitude is so powerful and helped me to recognize that I am living someone else’s dream. It’s hard to feel resentful when I look at my life from that perspective.

😊I feel I am responsible for how I feel. When I don't like the feeling, I try to shift my thoughts.

@@TrekkingwithDebandMike one thing that has helped me (when I remember) is to get curious about the feelings. It’s not so much about shifting them, but exploring them a little and my own discomfort. But yes yes yes we are responsible for our own feelings. 😊

"there's less barriers to change than you think." I found this incredibly moving! This piece of advice is so powerful. Go do a thing! The thing you want! Thank you, Jackie. This work you are doing is really important.
And the work thing: An avenue for your growth instead of it fulfilling everything for you. That's so good!
I have been resentful many times when I have done TOOOOO MUCH. By too much I mean I was doing more than others in the group were doing, so there was not a feeling of reciprocity. I've come to understand over the years that the way that I focus is not the way others focus. I have an intense laser beam to the exclusion of most everything else. So while people are, you know, "bathing regularly," I'm eating lunch while working on an excel spreadsheet. ;) And honestly I love it. This is how I am wired and I now radically accept it with kindness! And I radically accept others for needing to have a more balanced approach in their lives. Resentment has become a great barometer for me. It often means I have gone too far in the give & take; I've given too much for it to be balanced. So I haul my big laser beam elsewhere and shine it on a more self-loving thing for a bit.
I also have resented where I have lived before. Looking back it was because I did not feel accepted at those places. While there I sought places (shops, school clubs, neighborhoods) that felt more in line with what I was about. It made a huge difference! I was so young and it never occurred to me to MAKE a change. I could have started a club, too! :)
I am currently co-creating the equivalent of a "club" and it's been deeply satisfying, and also I'm often on the precipice of resentment because of the aforementioned laser beam. Thank you for bringing all of this up, because it's nice to reflect on good ways for me to keep my resentment at bay as I continue to work on this project.

I have felt that resentment too. I also can get laser focused. I’m learning to do that on thing I can control… basically things I can do and not having expectations of others to meet my focus.
Yay for clubs!!!! I started the Full Moon Fun Club this year and I’m loving it. I’m all for building a thing we wish we had.
And I really do promise there’s less barriers to doing things then people think. Especially things that are on the human scale. Does your neighborhood need a bench? Put one out. Does the park need a pet water station? Put a bowl and a gallon jug of water. Want to learn Swedish? Start a club. Everything is possible. (That should probably be tattooed on my arm!)

Yes great video. Happened to me when I moved from UK to Australia. Took me a very long time to settle and went through all the emotions you talked about. The main issue I think was the first place we lived, we moved after 7 years to another area and felt much better but still took me a while to totally settle. Now I feel I couldn’t live anywhere else ❤ great video and thought provoking ❤

Oh wow! That is a massive move! Just the cultural differences alone would be a lot to take in. I am so glad to hear you found your spot! 🥰

I love hearing your story. My oldest son lived there a year and it was my excuse to visit SF my favorite city. I think I already told you that. He felt a bit like you after just one year. That being said he was just there this past weekend for a concert. It’s a great place to visit.
I didn’t want to live in this house we live in and I’m so happy I finally have fallen in love with it. I realized it’s become about the memories made and the people in it and the people who have come through it.
    Always love your wisdom.
Have you given us a studio tour? I would love to see the nooks in your creative space.

Oh, I didn't know your son had lived there! Yes - it is an amazing city and I don't regret having lived there. It made such huge impact on our lives, but it was just not all what I thought I wanted. Funny enough no where is... we have to find that ourselves. Which is exactly what you found at your home!
I HAVEN'T done a studio tour... it's such a mess! But it's a good idea - just crawling through my shelves and cubbies would have delights!

Great video! I agree 1,000 % that I do not want to become a bitter old woman. I know some of them where I live and they suck all of the joy out of every situation. I'm also a gen-X-er, and I feel like life is getting weirder the older I get! Which makes it even more important to not get old and cranky but to stay as present and accepting as possible with Life.
I'm wondering when you lived in S.F.? I'm a native S.F.er and for most of my life it was Shangri-La. Until it wasn't. And then it crashed REALLY hard and became a place that I didn't even recognize anymore. I am currently living in small town Texas and about to move (next week!) to Idaho. I won't put my whole life story in the comments, but your video was perfect timing for me regarding expectations. Thank you!
P.S. would love to hear more about your experience in SF if you ever feel inspired to do so.

We lived in San Francisco from 1994 to 2000. It was dreamy in the Sunset, and we loved it, but then, well, I didn't. It was such a combo of things, and now I don't think I would even recognize it (and we certainly couldn't afford it anymore)!
And YES-we all know those bitter old people, and it's a serious thing-it's easy to let resentment hold on and turn into bitterness. I do not want to be one of those people!
Yay for moving to Idaho! What fun to see a whole other part of the country. I hope your move is positive and that you land with grace.
Maybe someday I'll share more about our full move experience. I've been thinking of doing a video on how to move to a small town! All the things I WISH I had known!
