Yesterday during dinner, one of the divers asked me about the creek- said she heard it from one of the crewmembers. I said nothing. Not because I was afraid, or annoyed. I just had nothing to say. What was there to say. The Bots were there. We went in to liberate the planet, and spill as much of their oil as possible. Green divers, just like the one that asked me about the creek. Piss and vinegar, fresh from fighting the Terminids; they had no idea what they were dropping into. When we hit the dirt, we found the entire planet swarming with bots, in a jungle that gave no quarter to any who wandered in without a plan- it was just as dangerous as the bots were. We lost just as many divers to the bushes as we did to the Automatons. Anything we tried to do, the bots simply replaced it. Then the order came to abandon Malevelon. Some of the men refused; disobeyed orders. We stayed. Even when there were no supplies to be had, we dropped again and again, entranced by the brutal combat; determined to strike vengeance at the Automatons for killing so many of our comrades. We could see hundreds of our destroyers crashing down to the planet's surface as the bot Anti-Air made short work of our fleets. Soon, the crews were threatening a mutiny if we didn't leave. Even so, some stayed, abandoning their ships. Nobody really knows what happened to those divers. Dead, most likely. So, when that diver asked me about Malevelon creek, all I could do was tuck into my plate. What was there to say. I saw a man call a 500kg bomb directly on his position to destroy a fabricator. I saw another stay behind at the extract point to buy us more time. And another give up her position to draw attention from the rest of the squad when we were attempting to destroy a command bunker.
