Absolutely love my 690. Its not a highway bike, but get it in the mountain twisties, and its a demon. I agree with you on the peg positions, and screen issue. I think its obvious it should be hinged. The foot position is much better with the optional rear sets.
Chase, anyway for first rides you can continue to give the bike stats with the beginning panoramic shots? having the general price, engine type size, fun facts was such a cool addition in the past!
I just bought a 2017 690 Duke R a couple of months back. The rearsets on the R totally transform the riding position and solve the nasty rear brake and shift lever positions.
I have a 2013 690R. It's an awesome bike. Also one of the funniest track bikes I have ever ridden. Braking power and corner entry speed is just out of this world..
Do you even read up on the bike you'll test, or is the concept a "lets make a video about whatever"? Wrong info right off the bat. That's a 2017 model.
As he said before, “First Rides” aren’t reviews of the bikes, it’s from the point of view of someone who just hops on the bike for the first time with some knowledge of it.
WayTooFast A first ride doesn’t mean ignorant... anyone that jumps on a new motorcycle without having reviewed specs and checked for oddball items compared to their bike (or someone knowledgeable pointing out differences to them) is a fool... The more I hear his comments, the more I think I need to go listen to a different reviewer (revzilla or F9) to find out the real deal....
I own a 2016 690 duke which is the same as the 2018. The track pack option is great to have it gives you three modes and you can turn off ABS and traction control. The TFT you kinda get used to leaning to see it.Biggest complaints I have are. Wind Not very much top end tops, out at 118mph Kickstand sucks bad a little wind and the bike tries to fall over. Sounds like a dirt bike even with the Akro TI exhaust Definitely not for highway riding.
FINALLY! Thanks Chase! Requested this beast sooooo many times. Finally my bike (well not exactly, mine is the ignorant 2012 model, without any control except for ABS) As alway, NICE WORK! Greets from ITALY! Love you!
Making up for all the time you haven’t had access to the KTM’s, Chase? Also, I have heard that the 790 might not replace the 690, but instead compete with the FZ-09 while the 690 competes with the FZ-07... we’ll have to see.
daniel thompson no the 690 Duke is still there only the 690 smcr is stopped being produced. The Duke just got a reworked engine (its in the Husqvarna 701 too) and maybe at the end of the year a new 690 smcr with the new 701 frame and engine comes out. You can find pictures of the prototypes online.
Great Review. I think about getting the Duke 690 as a temporary bike until the 790 ADV is released. Still not sure tho if 390 or 690... What do you think about longer tours (2-5h). I guess the 690 is a bit more comfortable, right? (But both suck with the wind)
Hi, great review. I have one, and I just add a good windshield, and a smoked one. Then two problems less. No wind problem any longer, and I can see the tft without troubles, as the light of the sun doesn't affect it. And of course, I have modified the action of the two pedals. It's quite easy. Thanks a lot for this review.
NEED OPNIONS. I’m thinking of getting this bike for my first bike. I grew up riding dirt bikes and have a calling for a sport. It’s been years since I have been on a motorcycle but I feel the reckluse clutch , good seat height, I’m 5,10 , and not to mention the easy and intermediate options of power. I know that my right hand is the most important tool on the bike. I am 22 and beginning the starting safety course soon. I feel I can handle it but have gotten negative feedback. Please give me your feedback.
Georgia Property Depot no it doesnt. It got reworked. The engine now puts out 74HP, revs higher and they put a second balance shaft on it. The 2017/18 701 has the same engine. You really feel the difference with the vibration (but its still vibrating alot)
Nice review Dude! I have this bike and the screen position sucks but you quickly get used to it. Foot brake and gear selector levers are adjustable. But, as a bike reviewer how can you know so little about this bike?? You're not sure if it's a single!!?? Unsure about the ABS!? Research Chase. Research.
My bike too! But mine is a 2017 , which is what I thought Chase tested but he says 2018. So far only one time was the display hard to see for me, but it is directly related to sun position relative to the display. I use it as a commuter but my highway portion is only about 8 miles ~80 MPH. Chase is right as it can wear you out after bit, but not so much that my remaining 4 miles to the house somehow turns into 20 miles of back road twisties. So light, so nimble, what a joy.
Chase, Dude! You have to first ride a Honda CBR650F or CB650F. They both look amazing and I'm curious of your opinion about how they ride and if they'd be a first bike option in the same league as the fz-07.
That has got to be the worst looking design and placement of a CAT system I have ever seen...first thing to do after buying this is to buy a full exhaust system lol
First thing to do is buy an FZ-07. Looks better and probably performs better too. I mean why does a 700cc bike have skinny tires like that? I don't like it.
Niklas better quality than Yamaha????? We're talking about ktm here. Ktm probably has the worst quality in the motorcycle industry. Yes their fit and finish is nice but their reliability is terrible.
So im 5'5"....so I do a bit of highway driving to school, like 10 miles or so, but mostly city type driving...so should I go with the 390, 690, or any other recommendations? As long as its a naked bike, then Im cool with it
Chase! great review as always, if possible, please mention what tyres are one each review you make, and let us know how the tyres feel :D I think this is very useful
OK I love the video ..but why is it that every time you accelerate and I would like to see the the performance from chest mount angle accelerating ...you switch to a very boring camera view from far away that obviously it doesn't have anything to do with the acceleration? It really bothered me and you did that in the beginning and multiple other times...its like the excitement of the video was stripped away at times :-(
Both have optional seats you can buy from Ducati that will accommodate any height issues. In my opinion the Monster is a blast to ride around town and in the twisties. The scrambler is just geared to be smoother and the suspension is much softer.
Hey chase! I was saying this for some while now but can you make one more video on Ninja 300? You know with new settings you made for the first ride and reviews. P.s it was like 5 years ago you made Ninja 300 video. I hope this message reaches you and i would be waiting. Cheers!
Assuming you’ve put in a solid amount of seat time and are pushing the 300 to its limits comfortably. Both of those bikes are solid moves, the SV has a snappier throttle and higher overall power, while the ninja is smoother but lower overall power. If you want a unicycle go with the wild card MT-07.
mr somthinbasic215 if price a consideration. The sv650 for the faired version 2005-2012 go for around £2000-£3000 while ninja 650 is £3000-£5000. The sv650 hasn't changed much, while the ninja 650 has had an overhaul a few years ago. You can put lots of mods on the sv to make it a better bike than the ninja 650 for the price. They are also the same power and torque as each other 70-71hp and torque is the exact same.
hey man I want to ask a question....why the freaking hell, that Ducati scrambler guy always follows you?....is that because they make sure you don't escape with their precious bike and get lost?....
i hate my smc 690 but an extra duke 690 yeah why not. cant drive slow, it overheats in traffic, a lot of engine issues, expensive oil good gearing, always highway, 50kw hey that's a bomb. in city it overheats and all cars are to slow.
I have this bike. It does have some niggles: 1. Instrument cluster is very hard to read. You can't even tilt the display. 2. The paint quality is not the best. After 300km I could scrape the color from the complete filler cap and was totally pissed. I didn't even use it. 3. Terrible brake lever and gear lever position. TERRIBLE! You can read this in EVERY Video that they are much too high. Don't know why they don't solve this... 4. KTM parts are very expensive! eg. Fender eliminator 5. Expensive servicing costs But basically a good beginners bike with a big fun factor and only 148kg 😁
I mean let's be fair though, if you buy any dealer/manufacturer specific accessory, you're gonna pay an arm and a leg. You should probably go with aftermarket fender eliminators or make your own, not too difficult. As for servicing, just stick to Japanese.
Servicing price is the same as any bike, and parts a like 1/2 of japanese bikes. Yes, from my local dealer here in Norway, which is a "expensive" country appearantly.
If you enjoy riding your bike thinking about the numbers and specs, buy some thing else. If you enjoy à unique feeling of riding, it cannot be beat. All the other 700 ish competion dont even come close.
With all the crazy sad stuff that’s going on in the world. Thank you for always making uplifting happy content.
Absolutely love my 690. Its not a highway bike, but get it in the mountain twisties, and its a demon. I agree with you on the peg positions, and screen issue. I think its obvious it should be hinged. The foot position is much better with the optional rear sets.
As it seems like we're on a KTM marathon I'm crossing my fingers to see the new superduke next🤞🏽
One gripe about the video. Every acceleration you did, you swapped to the vehicle mounted DSLR and I didn't get to see that. :(
canyonrunner331 drove me nuts, open it up and keep the helmet view
Chase, anyway for first rides you can continue to give the bike stats with the beginning panoramic shots? having the general price, engine type size, fun facts was such a cool addition in the past!
You'll be happy to know I'm in the process of working on something like that now!
Really? 690, single cyl? That’s gonna be a freaking pull on lower rpm. Too much for a beginner rider for me
Rhn Gf I got the 690 duke r as my first bike, u can definitely start on it
ktm 690 enduro r... single cyl too
Ktm 690 SMCR ... genius machine!
U should get 650-700cc, Cause they have a lot of torque so u dont get bored like u would on a 250-500cc
my wife is starting on this thing, she loves it, and shes 5ft 120
I just bought a 2017 690 Duke R a couple of months back. The rearsets on the R totally transform the riding position and solve the nasty rear brake and shift lever positions.

Hundre It is a 2017
Hundre Yeah a lot of times it seems like he just jumped on it and knows nothing or just the bare minimum about it.
Everyone is a motor journalists these days. He wasn't even sure it was a single.
As he said before, “First Rides” aren’t reviews of the bikes, it’s from the point of view of someone who just hops on the bike for the first time with some knowledge of it.

I think you have to find some twisties. That bike is absolutely build for that kind of bike!
Nice content but you have to cut down on the 3rd person shots. Especially when you say watch this and I can’t see what you are talking about
Thanks for honoring my request chase 👍
I own a 2016 690 duke which is the same as the 2018. The track pack option is great to have it gives you three modes and you can turn off ABS and traction control. The TFT you kinda get used to leaning to see it.Biggest complaints I have are.

One of my favorite looking bikes of all time. Though I'd remove the decals.
I’m 6’ 5” and I fit really nice on the bike . It’s fairly comfortable
Great Review. I think about getting the Duke 690 as a temporary bike until the 790 ADV is released. Still not sure tho if 390 or 690... What do you think about longer tours (2-5h). I guess the 690 is a bit more comfortable, right? (But both suck with the wind)

Do the 790 right when it comes out! I'm waiting For it so much! Keep up the great work!
It's already out in some places. At least it's there at my local dealer (Germany).
NEED OPNIONS.
I’m thinking of getting this bike for my first bike. I grew up riding dirt bikes and have a calling for a sport. Есть пара обзоров на этот мот, сезон откатал , сейчас продаю. Подрос до СМЦ 690, но еще один видосик про дюк успею снять. Мот в целом понравился
So pumped for the 1290 SuperDuke GT!!! Hopefully the dealer there lets you soon :)
Wohooo, some more C2W =D You made my day Chase. Have a great weekend.
13:00 did you mean you thaught it only had ABS in the front?
here in the u.k. the ktm 690 duke was redesigned this year and came out when the 390 did
I was at MMS Marietta on Thursday. I bought AL’s Wee Strom. He said he knew you. He’s the guy who does their web photos.
i bet a bar damper and a small windscreen would tame a lot of the criticism . cool bike
It has the Same motor in it as the 690 enduro/sm. Of course its going to vibrate, Its essentially a big dirtbike motor.
Georgia Property Depot no it doesnt. It got reworked. The engine now puts out 74HP, revs higher and they put a second balance shaft on it. The 2017/18 701 has the same engine. You really feel the difference with the vibration (but its still vibrating alot)
JANIK ~ EEZY yea that reworked it. But it still the same motor.
You should try to get the Duke 790 for a First Ride as well.
Review the duke 790 once its released!
I bought the R version of the duke, first thing I changed was the CAT and the position of the shifter
I love the simplicity
Nice review Dude! I have this bike and the screen position sucks but you quickly get used to it. Foot brake and gear selector levers are adjustable. But, as a bike reviewer how can you know so little about this bike?? You're not sure if it's a single!!?? Unsure about the ABS!? Research Chase. Research.
He should know one exhaust pipe equals one cylinder.
Ooh! I waited so loooong for u to test my bike😍
Me too bro!! Our bike!!
nonono MY bike!
Andrew Miller no, very easy, it changes when go from low light to much light
My bike too! But mine is a 2017 , which is what I thought Chase tested but he says 2018. So far only one time was the display hard to see for me, but it is directly related to sun position relative to the display. Jeff Rogers I have a Puig windscreen on my D690R. It's really helpful, check it out.
I love the KTM orange colour scheme.
Why your music always so damn loud?
The number of exhaust pipes should be a good indication of cylinders!
Hi frend .... How is you opinion about two this bikes kmt 390 duke and 690 duke .... 690 duke is much beter ?
always wear headphones for first rides due to the siiiiiick edits!
Chase you should really buy different gloves. the ones you are wearing won´t protect you nearly enough if you ever go down.
all ur videos are the best out there. Keep up man
I realize it's based on this bike, but would you be able to do the vitpilen 701 too? It'd be cool if you could do a sort of compare and contrast
Chase, Dude! You have to first ride a Honda CBR650F or CB650F. They both look amazing and I'm curious of your opinion about how they ride and if they'd be a first bike option in the same league as the fz-07.
Please ride the rebel 500. I know it isn’t your style. But I would like your opinion on the redesign
That has got to be the worst looking design and placement of a CAT system I have ever seen...first thing to do after buying this is to buy a full exhaust system lol
Yep of course. My system is on his way XD
emudshit so true, i replaced mine with leovince decat, so much better looking and sound ruclips.net/video/uK780_njmh4/видео.html
First thing to do is buy an FZ-07. Looks better and probably performs better too. I mean why does a 700cc bike have skinny tires like that? I don't like it.
Ace Why would you buy a low-end budget bike when you can get something that has better quality components. It also performs better too. :)
Niklas better quality than Yamaha????? We're talking about ktm here. Ktm probably has the worst quality in the motorcycle industry. Yes their fit and finish is nice but their reliability is terrible.
compared to the monster 797 you've ridden, what would you recommend chase? ktm 690 or monster 797?
I love that duke! Love more the R versión, but its awesome, nice video
So im 5'5"....so I do a bit of highway driving to school, like 10 miles or so, but mostly city type driving...so should I go with the 390, 690, or any other recommendations? As long as its a naked bike, then Im cool with it
bro can u ride ktm duke 390 old version or the ktm duke 200 and do first ride video please??
waiting for 790 review
Hi Chase, are you able to share what settings you use for your gopro. I recently got one and like the quality you have in your vids
*Takes a naked upright bike on the highway* Is amazed by it being windy 😂
honestly i prefer the old looking 690 R that was a beast this one not so much better save up and buy the 790 DUKE
If only chase does first rides more often.
Can you try and get the 790? Kinda curious about the differences other than the body work.
Chase! great review as always, if possible, please mention what tyres are one each review you make, and let us know how the tyres feel :D I think this is very useful
How can the 790 be the replacement for the 690 if the 790 has a twin cylinder engine?
Hey chase I can’t find the Atlanta meetup video. When is it again? What video was it? Thanks In Advance
look at that snowplow front headlight - waiting for the 790!
When you get here before your notifications show up
being from the UK i have to start off on a 125cc so i have 2017 KTM 125 DUKE it looks the exact same as the 390
Why do you have to start with a 125cc in the UK? Is it a law or just your opinion?
Loves the sv650 so much he would still own one, buys a daytona costing 4 times as much... i get you chase.
Ben Dooley It's a loan bike from Triumph NA.
Niklas he bought it after they were gonna take it back.
Ok, I missed that. :)
Wonder if it’ll break down like its older version. Ktm pump issues etc
690 all day
Why do you have Ducati following you around? Don't they trust you anymore?
Try the 790 duke , its a great fun hooligan bike.
Hahaha! Finally chaseontwowheels, but Ive already bought this bike and sold it, you are too late :)
Were you happy with your 690? I've been looking at getting a used one as a first road bike, I grew up riding dirt bikes. 5'11 155 lbs
Dude that's in Wilkesboro!?
I live not too far from there!
great video keep them going!
OK I love the video ..but why is it that every time you accelerate and I would like to see the the performance from chest mount angle accelerating ...you switch to a very boring camera view from far away that obviously it doesn't have anything to do with the acceleration? It really bothered me and you did that in the beginning and multiple other times...its like the excitement of the video was stripped away at times :-(
hi chase,, it would be great if you could please make a review on the new ninja 650...
Mmmm been waiting for this
How do different cylinder layouts effect the character of a bike?
Yes!!! Another duke😍😍
Do they still make the 690 duke?
Im 5.6 , i need to know wich ducati should i buy ,monster or scramble i think im too short
Both have optional seats you can buy from Ducati that will accommodate any height issues. In my opinion the Monster is a blast to ride around town and in the twisties. The scrambler is just geared to be smoother and the suspension is much softer.
Btw chase i think you can adjust the shift and brake pedals on ktm's not sure though
A lot of those bikes made in India come with the kilometers per hour and it cannot be changed I guess they’re meant for Canadian market
Duke 690 was built in austria, never in india.
Would really love to see an RC690
Hey chase! I was saying this for some while now but can you make one more video on Ninja 300? You know with new settings you made for the first ride and reviews. P.s it was like 5 years ago you made Ninja 300 video. I hope this message reaches you and i would be waiting. Cheers!
Chase i got a 2013 300 ninja... im thinking on getin a sv650 or ninja 650 ... i live in the city of Philadelphia
Assuming you’ve put in a solid amount of seat time and are pushing the 300 to its limits comfortably. Both of those bikes are solid moves, the SV has a snappier throttle and higher overall power, while the ninja is smoother but lower overall power. If you want a unicycle go with the wild card MT-07.
chaseontwowheels 🤔 thanks for the help big guy ..i appreciate it
mr somthinbasic215 if price a consideration.
Ben climo thank you Very much
mr somthinbasic215 no problem. Im going though the same steps as well and getting an sv650. So i know how annoying it is.
Looks like a wheelie machine :)
Trust me, it is :)
Any plans to do the new goldwing?
hey man I want to ask a question....why the freaking hell, that Ducati scrambler guy always follows you?....is that because they make sure you don't escape with their precious bike and get lost?....
sorry...*Ducati monster
Aashirwad Tripathy maybe he has a camera setup on the Ducati
Santanu Dhon, but he said "the camera truck"...in earlier videos... perhaps you may be right.....cheers✌️
Could you test a few supermotos/enduros
What’s the case for your GoPro when you ride
Red GoPro case: geni.us/9jW4GqW
GoPro Hero 5 Black: geni.us/lgLL6
Wow how tall is he?
How bad were the vibes?
You should do a ninja h2 sx. I value your opinion.
What speaker do you and yummyr6 use to talk to each other?
No KTM 790 review yet?!?
i hate my smc 690 but an extra duke 690 yeah why not. cant drive slow, it overheats in traffic, a lot of engine issues, expensive oil good gearing, always highway, 50kw hey that's a bomb. in city it overheats and all cars are to slow.
You should ride a Kim 625 Lc4
Do a 2018 ninja zx6r the one you have is already old :c pls chase, regards
I have this bike. It does have some niggles:
4. KTM parts are very expensive! eg. Fender eliminator
5. Expensive servicing costs
But basically a good beginners bike with a big fun factor and only 148kg 😁
I mean let's be fair though, if you buy any dealer/manufacturer specific accessory, you're gonna pay an arm and a leg. You should probably go with aftermarket fender eliminators or make your own, not too difficult. As for servicing, just stick to Japanese.
It's piss easy to service yourself and you can adjust the position of the levers, another trick is inverting the peg mounts.
Servicing price is the same as any bike, and parts a like 1/2 of japanese bikes. Yes, from my local dealer here in Norway, which is a "expensive" country appearantly.
Have you tryed the Super Duke??
If you enjoy riding your bike thinking about the numbers and specs, buy some thing else. If you enjoy à unique feeling of riding, it cannot be beat. All the other 700 ish competion dont even come close.
How much is the 690 there at mountain Motorsport
Styling change for the 390 came in 2017
Can you do a review of Honda CB1000R?
