    Never had any cooling issues or lumpyness with my 2017 Duke 690, tho i did have complete Akrapovic and Booster Plug and EGR Delete from first big service till the day i accidentally wrecked it and ended in a wheelchair for life... tho it is still one of the most fun bikes i have ever ridden!

    Great review. I have a 17 Duke 690. I agree with all the things you comment about. I am in the US and the R was not available. I however had the same cooling issues. I went to my dealer and they put in a different coolant than stock. I am not sure what they used but that really made a huge difference. The bike still gets a little hot (and it is hot here 90+ F in the summer) and traffic heats the bike up, but it is not getting over 6 bars. As for all the other stuff I agree, the bike does have cons but so many pros. It is a fairly rare bike here because people buy the traditional sportbikes or cruisers, but I found the Duke is such a balance between the 2. I like the performance and capabilities of the bike but also like how it is a great around town bike. Thank you for the long term review.

      Is it country/license specific?

    I own a 2018 in the US, the engine has come a long way and is really enjoyable to the point where I ride it more than my ducati around town. There are 3 things I would like to add. For the US market a lot of these bikes had issues with the fuel tanks warping under the fuel cap flange, KTM has replace my tank outside the standard warranty., but I believe this has to do with the ethanol in the unleaded gasoline that is sold in the states.The tft display is illegible in direct sunlight, not the end of the world. But the last point really sucks, the R model never made it to the states, the extra modes you speak of are really nice to have, everyone wants them in the US. Unfortunately getting the track pack feature installed on all the US dukes to enable the rider modes has become impossible due to environmental protection agency. There is no way to disable the traction control or use the other riding modes, this really annoys a lot of people including myself.

    Hey nice video! Haven’t seen a longterm review of the Duke R on youtube. Fell in love with the 690 and it’s going to be my first purchase very soon, though just the standard one as the R is no longer available here. Still very excited!!...You’ve covered most of what i wanted to know but i got a bit worried when you mentioned the overheating. Hopefully it’s just a coolant issue!...Now did yours come restricted from the factory? And if so can the dealer easily de-restrict it+ do you have any idea if they’ll charge for that and how much it would cost?
    Lastly how has the performance been since the Decat seeing you haven’t dynod and retuned it? My future plans for mine would definitely to put a full system. How has maintenance been as well, any tips?
    Sorry for the long questions, i’m just obsessed with this bike

    • @scandimc
      @scandimc  5 лет назад +3

      I M thanks! Its a great first bike, go get it! The R version was last produced in 2017, not available anymore new. The overheating is not a deal breaker, u can add coolant for hotter enviroments and buy a thermostat which makes the fan starting earlier. With A2 restriction you cant map it for a full exhaust because of the hp rules, but it defiently gets lighter. If you ride it fulleffect you can map it with the akrapovic full system map, that gives 80hp instead of 75hp. The bikes doesnt come with the restriction, the dealer map it via a computer . De-restricting cost like 100$😉

    The LC4 engine was made for Enduro to be strapped. KTM does not how to fuel a bikes for putting around, soon as you buy a KTM road bike, get a power commander and Dyno it to get a smooth map. The 690 likes an open exhaust and and the airbox opened the rally cam will smooth it even more. I fill all my KTM's with a non glycol racing coolant, this will fix the cooling issue.

    Great review, really enjoyed it and agreed pretty much with everything. I've got a UK model 2017 Duke 690 R (full 75hp) and it's a right little beast! How long before you can derestrict yours? I removed the Cat and fitted a link pipe, and my dealer removed the SAS and flashed it with the AKRS map, also fitted a K&N. It really takes off now...

    How did they adjust the engine settings to compensate for that? My local KTM dealer won't do it, as they don't know how.
