Thanks for the clear details on Dynam Retracts, I normally swap the Dynam retracts with other makes, your excellent video will help a lot of Dynam flyers save their RC planes from a no landing gear situation. well done Jeff.
Brilliant video Jeff. Thank you for your clear explanation. I just had the same problem with an identical retract. It was intermittent and then refused to work at all. I took it apart and sprayed some 'electrolube' electrical cleaner on the micro switches. The gears didn't appear to have much, if any, grease on them, so I put a small amount of 'Super Lube' synthetic silicon grease on them with the tip of a screwdriver. Both of these materials have been in my garage for years, since the days when I did my own car maintenance. The retract works fine now. I am myself making a video of the mods I am making to the Vintage Model Company Balsa Basic Spitfire, and one of the mods is fitting retracts. I will leave a link to your video in my video. Cheers Russ
Thank you for the feedback👍 im glad it helped u.. electrical contact cleaner spray is the best atuff to spray on the micro switches ..appreciate u leaving a message ..cheers😎
Nice one! Another issue is that the worm drive slips on the drive gear. You hear the motor running but the gear doesn't move. This is usually because the case isn't quite tight enough or one or more of the screw threads is stripped through over tightening in the factory. Quick fix is to put a cable tie around the unit, under the gear leg, to keep the casing shut tight.
Thanks for taking the time to do this...it helped with a different problem following a heavy landing the worm drive had jumped slightly out of position.
Excellent! I ordered a Freewing retract and new one had the same problem, Your fix worked! Saved me $10 shipping costs and at least a week of waiting. I subscribed!
Great video Jeff. Clear and concise info. Watching in real time makes it even clearer for people who've never done it before. About to try it on mine that's not coming down. Cheers
@@highflying82 It does work. Opened, Closed and did it again :( lol. Need to dissolve the grease in the micro-switch and cover top with a little bit of tape i think? Cheers
I used a thin Q tip and some alcohol on the switch and cleaned off the grease on the threaded shaft. Works perfectly fine now on my AL-37 from Motion RC.
Jeff, thank you for sharing this very useful information on the retract fix. The question I now have is how to limit my retract travel. Prior to seeing your vid I used a set screw to limit the trave to less than 90 degrees. But now I wonder if this will damage the motor because the micro switch will not be engaged on the stowed side. Still, I don't think so because the motor makes no stalled noise when the set screw engages the bottom of the mechanism. So the motor's electrical circuit must have a cutout protection upon a stall.
It's worth a try ..I did the same with my pals durafly bf110 and it sorted them in fact this retract I used for the video is a durafly vampire unit .. good luck william
Good stuff right there Jeff I was having some trouble with my retracts on my T-28 the yellow one from hobby King and the gear wouldn't work or they would come down on there own or the flaps would come down on there own so I pulled the wing off and pulled out the circuit board that the gear flaps and ailerons are all wired into and installed Y harnesses instead and now every thing works just right just another thing to think about great video Jeff thanks for sharing this with me. Peace brother 😎
Brill vid thanks apparently a lot of dynam retracts suffer same problem, I pulled out my retract before finding this video but will go try it now :)?👍👍thanks
@@highflying82 well to be honest , im not sure if the switch is the issue yet. I was forced to land my me262 on the nacelles because I lost power and the retracts were in the up position and since then the nose retract will go up but until I tap on it , it won't come back down. It's weird. I looked to see what it's getting stuck on but I don't see anything so 🤷, very irritating!! Very good video none the less!
Jeff, I have a Freewing "AT-6 Texan". When I first purchased it (used) the gear rotated just fine and seated in the wheel well with no problem. Recently it stopped doing what it is supposed to do, and the right gear stops outside its gear bay, and no longer lines up to retract completely. Before I tear apart my landing gear, or bend something that should not be bent, can you offer a solution that is easier. Whatever advice you can provide will be appreciated.
Hello, Nice video. A question! Do you know how to remove the landing gear arm (Metal part that the wheel is attached) from the black plastic part that goes inside the retracts? Many thanks.
same problem with my dynam bf109 retract. This will be my 5th time taking a E retract apart. I swear the worst thing on a Rc plane to work on is anything with retracts.
use some electrical contact cleaner on the micro switches ..they get gunked up from the gearbox grease.. sometimes half a turn out on the casing screws helps to reduce resistance .

Glad it helped Donald .. to keep the prob at bay try and store the model with the gear retracted ..cheers
Best explanation I've found - thanks Jeff!!
using a dielectric grease will eliminate that problem all together. It will keep the gears happy, and not short or gum up the switch. great fix!
Thank you for your feedback.. I will try that

U will not be able to limit travel .. if u do micro switches won’t operate and trunnions won’t lock in place
Very good explanation! Thanks for making this video. 👍🏻
Thanks for the feedback 👍🏻 hope it helps
Thank you! Very similar to my Durafly Bf.109. I'll do this, and hopefully finally get to maiden it.

Hi Jeff, Thanks for this, I had the exact same problem with my Dynam BF110 retracts and have now sorted it out, Thanks very much.

Hi Jeff, the retracts on my Dynam Trojan failed at weekend was advised to order new ones but will try to fix first. Thanks for video.
Greg Hill hope it works for you.. pop back and let us know how u get on .. regards jeff
Thanks for the info-- That worked on mine. After I ordered a new one---LOL

Hello, Nice video.
A question! Do you know how to remove the landing gear arm (Metal part that the wheel is attached) from the black plastic part that goes inside the retracts? Many thanks.
The gear leg is fixed into the retract at the pivot point .. there r 2 hex screws inside the pivot point
Jeff...great video
Hopefully it will help peeps with problems it may not fix but its a chance worth taking

same problem with my dynam bf109 retract. This will be my 5th time taking a E retract apart. I swear the worst thing on a Rc plane to work on is anything with retracts.
Thank you for posting this. I wondered what could be causing my nose gear to remain stuck in the up position.
Glad it helped 👍😎
Add "sticking travel switch" to the title. One of various reasons for servoless retract failures.
8.00 min mark .. open case and degreese the stuck end point micro switches
Nice one fella
took me 15+ Fricking hours till i took apart the gear and found this, the gear was stuck out

OMG flecon splak dish da unkan😂
*understand
you can also get new pcb boards from Hobby king . com small 'medium' and large boards available . that is what i just did and it fixed my problem .
