Tech salaries are good. I’m a Data Scientist with 5.5 years of experience. Hons Computer Science, top 40 listed company. Currently earning 89k pm gross, net 50k after pension, medical aid, tax, etc with annual bonus of around 250k. Working hard does work and moving around can give you significant bumps. Most of my friends in tech earn around the same as well.

@@Alberto-qf7zhCerts are good enough. If you can get the Comptia trifecta which is A+ N+ S+ and then somehow land a 1 role that uses those skills. You can definitely make R25k per month. Just depends on the company and of course how good u are.

Reality check for most developers....most internships will pay you 4500 - 10 000. But after a solid 2 years of experience your salary can 5x. The jump is insane. Big companies pay well but you will just be a number and you might end up being too expensive as your career progresses. I'd advise to work for small companies and have exponential growth in the long run, plenty of opportunity

Back when I was a Software Engineer Intern I was making 20K a month, I can tell you now, these new interns make 45K a month to 650K per annum. Just put in the work and you will make it, I’m 5 years in my career and making 5x what I started.

On the issue of benefits, these people earn enough money to invest in their own pension funds and medical aid and still have enough left over to live. So I guess the high net salary compensates for the lack of benefits

@ Boni with regards to benefits it depends which company you work for. In tech start-ups we usually dont have benefits but the pay will include everything & more. In traditional industries like banks then you will see all the benefits on the tech payslip.
@liferesetwithboni Basically, the payslip you see won't have any benefits listed, but they are included on the gross e.g when you leave a company with benefits to join a startup, your offer will include all your previous benefits and paid to you as a salary. Most startups do not want to get involved with medical aid and retirement funds, so they will just pay you an inclusive salary.
The years of experience are important, and I do mention. It will be unprofessional to ask someone their age 😂I will publish it if they volunteer to mention it.

They are on contract most of them. I received a payslip from some in a different industry asking me why is their payslip so naked and I said they can go to the department of labor. I also had a naked payslip with just UIF and skills development levy and it was not fake. I worked in a small Company that had no benefits so I understand why some have those payslips. Most people work for consultants even now in the built environment space, a whole professional architect with an MBA but has that naked payslip.

You can put away your own retirement annuity. The only difference is your company wouldn't be helping you, but start as early as possible to put away something for retirement.
