    Brings back sooo many wonderful memories. Skied Zermatt three times during the 90's alone while my wife stayed in the Village. So many adventures and most of the time I had no clue to where I was headed. Eat breakfast in Switzerland and lunch in Italy!

    We are starting our first trip to the Alps in a couple weeks, and Zermatt is our 2nd stop.
    We have watched a TON of RUclips videos as part of our planning, and this is by far the most helpful video we have seen.
    Off the top - simply beautiful!
    But also equally informative. This is the best job I’ve seen at correlating the visuals with the information providing the relativity to where you are with the visuals. And excellent camera work, and editing. You’re the first person to actually use an external perspective from a chairlift. I was curious how you got the external perspective while on the train.
    I appreciate the subtle things of getting in and out do the trains, and on and off the lifts. It helps set expectations so we know we are in fact in the right place.
    Thank you for the excellent work!
    I think you have also documented it perfectly from a home movie perspective. This is what I hope to replicate for our own home movies.
    May I ask what you have used.
    It appears to be an Insta360 X3 (or equivalent) on an invisible selfie-stick for most of it.
    Did you use any manual settings ? I.e. exposure, resolution, etc.
    Horizon lock ?
    Lens ?
    Thank you for any info you can share.
    Beautiful work!!

    • @YouDecideIsItWorthIt

      Thank you for the kind words! I too have always loved making home movies for the memories and to share with family and friends. After starting the RUclips channel, I thought why not make them useful for everyone (still a work in progress). Yes, I use the Insta360 X3 on an invisible selfie stick for all of the action shots - including on the lifts, trams, trains. There’s usually a window to get the camera and stick outside the cab. I shoot exclusively in 360 (both lenses) 5.7K at 30 fps. For the scenery shots and far away shots of the train and Gondola, I’m using my iPhone set on 4K 30fps. To get those shots, I just stop and film them while skiing. The only drone shot in the Zermatt video is the town fly over in the beginning of the video. Insta360 has a great app for editing on the phone to pick angle of view and field of focus (ultra wide, wide, narrow). For the final editing, I’m using a MacBook Pro and their Finalcut pro software. Stay in touch if you get into 360 filming and I’d be glad to help anyway I can. Sincerely, James Duke

      Sounds like a great trip you have planned! The off-trail areas are marked as free-ride trails at Zermatt. They are all in non-glacial areas. If you are wanting to ride off trail in the upper part of Matterhorn Paradise, or in the side-country, then definitely a guide would be necessary.

    Vid is edited really nicely., trying to figure how you got a few shots.

      Excited for you! Zermatt is probably the most overall scenic resort I’ve ever skied! I really enjoyed skiing the Zermatt Glacier Paradise area the most for the scenery, but be aware as a boarder a couple of the runs have some long flats so be mindful and keep up your speed. The Gornergrat section was my next favorite area. Let me know about any shots you wonder about and I’ll let you know how I did them. Take care and have a great trip!

    • @YouDecideIsItWorthIt
      @YouDecideIsItWorthIt  7 дней назад

      @@noobtifygames7305 Thank you for watching my video and for commenting. I do not have any recommendations for renting gear - lots of shops in town. I took my own gear. Most of the shops I saw look professional and well stocked. As for skiing, please ask at the shop you rent your gear, and the main ticket area near the train station. I’m thinking this early in the season you will have to go to the top of Glacier Paradise and ski the runs on the glaciers, but the local shop and ticket office will know for sure where you can ski. I skied there in March and the entire ski area was open. Hope you have a great time - I think Zermatt is probably the most beautiful ski resort in the world! I do keep looking ;-)

    Hi James, there are some areas that look bereft of snow - is that typical at Zermatt? Or just later into the season? Thinking of skiing late Feb early March 2025 but coming from Australia need to be snow sure as it’s a long way from down under!

    • @YouDecideIsItWorthIt
      @YouDecideIsItWorthIt  7 месяцев назад

      During the making of the video was my first visit to Zermatt. Zermatt’s base is over 1500 meters and the top lift station is over 3800 meters. I think Zermatt and all of the resorts in the Alps are considered very snow safe from 2000 meters and above - which is the majority of the Zermatt ski resort! We are headed to Australia after the ski season this year for the first time.

      Thank you! We are from USA. We flew into Geneva Switzerland and airline charged $100 excess baggage fee for ski bag with poles and boots. Swiss Railways train goes from the Geneva airport to Visp and charged ~$80 for ticket (no additional fee for luggage), and then in Visp we took the Matterhorn Bahn train to Zermatt for ~$30 (also no additional luggage fee). Both railways depart from same station in Visp - so easy transfer. We walked to our hotel in Zermatt from the train station as it was only about 10 minutes. Electric taxis are plentiful in Zermatt and charged $20 to transport. In Zermatt, I used the free bus to get to the different ski resort lift stations. Hope this helps!
