jesus the og version felt like electroshock therapy and quickly falling to death soon after but, this feels like having been in a old asylum where you slowly loose your sanity after years of being in there and your brain is in scrambles after a forced lobotomy and many electric sessions from cruel nurses and doctors. This hits more tbh bc you feel the past victims in this song more, who were abused and tortured and were revoked rights to even fight against it. Gives you chills really.
The second story is closer to the actual story behind this song and album, with the original story being a man named Simon falling in love, with his lover soon being murdered and him being convicted (even though he didnt do it) leading him to be institutionalized and treated with electro shock therapy truly driving him insane and causing his view of the world to be warped permanently.
The lobotomy part is implied in the distorted version of the original. In the ‘see how the serfs’ part you can hear an ice pick rhythmically hitting something, and the first lobotomies were done with ice picks.
you are actually relitively cose to the original plot of the album! The album Hawaii: Part II is about a man who went to Hawaii, fell in love, then his love got murdered in front of him. This song is where he pleads insanity for the murder (even though he didn't do it) and gets sent to a mental asylum where they give him electroshock therapy until he *actually* goes insane. The rest of the album details his decent into madness, culminating into Dream Sweet in Sea Major where he dies, lost at sea.
i agree. it is my favorite part of the whole song! its genuinely so difficult for me to put into words just how much this song means ti me. ive tried. i just cant! joe is amazing and this album needs more love than is already has
After years of TikTok songs and trashy songs i have found the perfect song, i keep re-playing it over and over and it's never ever getting old after a year of hearing it every day. There is no favorite part...it's all beautiful, the lyrics too...I'm literally going to cry!! i love it so much!😭😭😭🖤🤍🖤🤍
This has forbidden, dark... omminous vibes. I love it so much. It makes me picture flashes of ye olde mental asylum going from new and old, brand new and destroyed. The foliage growing around, and the place itself being engulfed by the sands of time.
THE VOCODED PART AT THE BEGINNING SOUNDS LIKE DIFFERENT PITCHES THAN THE ORIGINAL… That’s so crazy and so cool. I didn’t think this would be as good as it was, my gosh.
@@Wander-Core It seems so. Joe has a history of making his songs with the intention that they will be modified and played under different conditions and making the frequencies sound louder or quieter different based on the speaker and pitch. The tone of the lower part of the vocoder was set to a frequency that speakers seem to make quieter, but here the high part is at that frequency, effectively isolating the low part. You can hear this by the note relations being different.
vent im at a very low point in my life and this video symbolizes it so perfectly. its like you’re walking through a gallery of broken canvases but you cant fix any of the canvases. you feel hopeless. no one really understands and your life is turning around on you so suddenly. you just have to watch in silence. doctor, i cant tell if im not me
Dude everyone’s putting timestamps i honestly think the whole song is the best I love everything from it. This song has been in my head for 4 years and I’ve just discovered this version a few days ago and it makes it sound more perplexed and lost. I love that feeling. Thank you for making this version!
This is the type of song you’d hear before an extremely brutal death. Your mind trying to tell you one last thing, share one last memory, but not being able to pick which one so it just puts your entire life into a mixed up, insane flashback, making you feel like you’ve truly lost your mind before your death shortly after. (Yes ik the true meaning btw this is just how i feel tho lol)
I love this song so much. I might’ve just found out about it, and it might be old, but honestly it’s mysterious but misunderstood and almost sad feeling is amazing. The slowed version here is pretty good too, idk this song gives me satisfaction.
if this song were a person, i think they would be a emotionally distanced, scarred, broken and misunderstood but incredibly hot, mad scientist with slick hair and a strangely white coat..
i feel like if this song was a person, they would be very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very hot
Ight, get this person some views dammit. (Ive been attached to this song for a long time and to here it like this makes me happier then it should. Thank You✨💞)

got inspired by this song, might actually write it as an actual story and publish it one day.. 'I go to a school, a primary school, for 7 years straight. Sounds grueling, right? Yeah, especially when that school is secretly engaged in mafia business and is training literal children into becoming a member of the Italian mafia. They pressure children, stressing them out with everything and they ruin the youth, *our* youth. Oi, d'you know what they do with their _beloved_ Year 6 students, especially those who are apart of a 'cultural' club? They teach them how to wield several kinds of guns the mafias are known to use. They even keep mini pistols in little holsters at their hip and shoot each other with them for training. Well, I have to admit that they only shoot at the legs.. but still, you get my point. Wow, how can a school pass off doing that? God, I dunno. Ask that to the principal's face.. if you can ever find her.' might update and change things around but idk-

I had electroshock, can confirm.
The lobotomy part is implied in the distorted version of the original. In the ‘see how the serfs’ part you can hear an ice pick rhythmically hitting something, and the first lobotomies were done with ice picks.
I smell criminally underrated. This version has a much more sad tone compared to the original. I love it.

@Wander-Core I think they meant that it was a different kind of pitch, more than just slowed down.
Yeah, the chords seem to have some notes at pitches where they’re easier to hear at slower speeds.
