  • I had the P0036 and P0037 trouble codes for a little while. Did some research and figured out that the rear o2 sensor most likely had to be replaced. So I replaced it and as of today (roughly 3 weeks later) those codes have not returned. Hope this video helps you out if you're in the same boat as I was!

    For reference, my GTI is a 2012 MK6 with the CCTA engine. What the CCTA basically means for this job is that my engine only has two o2 sensors, one on the downpipe and one after the catalytic converter.
    The other type of engine you may have is the CBFA engine. If you have this type then your engine will have an extra o2 sensor before the catalytic converter for a total of three.
    Both the P0036 and P0037 trouble codes had to do with the heater circuit on the rear sensor specifically. There was nothing mentioned about the front sensor, so that's why I only replaced the rear sensor.

    Hey man question what size o2 sensor spacer did you get and if you can may you send the link where you got yours?

    • @chilledspeed

      That O2 sensor spacer was from 42 Draft Designs. It was installed by the shop that did my stage 2 tune (which was about 6 years ago at this point). I wish I could provide a link but, unfortunately, they've discontinued it since then. Sorry!

    i have two on the downpipe and one on the turbo

    • @chilledspeed

      Some mk6 GTIs have two O2 sensors and some have three, because of different emissions standards (California). I have the CCTA engine with the less strict emissions setup, which means I only have two O2 sensors. one on the downpipe and one after the catalytic converter. Sounds like you have the California setup (CBFA engine), which means you have an extra O2 sensor before the cat as well.

    What o2 sensor spacer is that?? Looking for ome for my '14 gti and that ome looks like itd fit perfectly

    • @chilledspeed

      That spacer was installed when I took my car in to a tuning shop to get my APR Stage 2 tune, and to be honest I'm not sure what brand it is. I went out and jacked the car up to check after I saw your comment, but there wasn't any branding on it as far as I could see. I just shot an email to the shop I took it to and asked if they could tell me what they use. If they get back to me in any sort or timely manner I'll comment again with the answer!

      So they did get back to me and it turns out that that O2 sensor spacer was from 42 Draft Designs. Unfortunately I think they've discontinued it since I had mine installed, but you might be able to find one on ebay. Or maybe after you start searching from there it'll lead you to another one that's just as good. Good luck!

    Would you clear the code on the scanner before you replace the sensor or after?

    • @chilledspeed
      @chilledspeed  3 года назад

      Ideally, after. If the sensor is in fact what's triggering whichever code you have, the code should disappear on its own. If it seems like it's sticking around after driving your car for a little while, you can try clearing it yourself with the scanner at that point, and then you can see if the code reappears.

      @chilledspeed  2 года назад

      TBH I've never come across that code so I can't say with any certainty what would trigger it. Do you also have a mk6 GTI or do you have a different model?

  • @justinburde4516
    @justinburde4516 4 года назад +1

    Do you have a angled o2 ?

    • @chilledspeed
      @chilledspeed  4 года назад

      The actual o2 sensor isn't angled, no. The sensor is screwed into a separate part called an o2 sensor spacer. When you make certain performance mods to your engine, like upgrading your exhaust system, it's basically a guarantee that you're going to get emissions-related trouble codes. The spacer extends the gap between the o2 sensor and the exhaust gases so the CO2 reading is lower, and the ecu doesn't throw a code as a result.

    • @chilledspeed
      @chilledspeed  2 года назад +1

      I wasn't immediately familiar with that code at first, but after a little searching I found that it doesn't have anything to do with the O2 sensor that I had to replace. This page here seems to have some good info to help you out: ricksfreeautorepairadvice.com/vw-p2568/

      Ok so based on how old your car is (almost the same as mine), and assuming you haven’t replaced that O2 sensor before, i think it’s safe to say that it could stand to be replaced. Before you buy one though, you can always look at the wiring going to the sensor itself and see if the wires are damaged or frayed.
