Green Goblin has always been Spider-Man's deadliest and most menacing foe in the comics and Willem Dafoe brings that perfectly to the big screen. His expressions, his voice, his laugh, his mannerisms, and his brutality. He's like a living comic book villain. Dafoe even insisted on doing his own fight scenes because that was a big part of the fun for him (as well as his way of getting into the character) and it really shows.
Willem dafoe’s green goblin is the most sinister villian of the raimi verse, but also really has the most badass hand to hand combat skills of a mma fighter.
Willem Dafoe is just... PERFECTLY CAST AS GREEN GOBLIN! 🎃 And his performance in both Spider-Man 1 and No Way Home reminds me why he's my favorite live action Spider-Man Villian of all time.
The first one was too damn good for 2002. I watch it again and I'm still amazed from the lines, the love, the comedy and the action. Willem Dafoe's voice and energy is pure entertainment. 🔥 Can't wait when No Way Home is re- released. 🕷
It’s actually incredibly sad how his final thoughts were about Harry. How ashamed he was of his actions and how he doesn’t want to be seen as the monster he knew he was. It was the goblin all up until that point, when he’s at the end and it’s only Norman left with the damage.
It's as though the Goblin couldn't complete its mission in converting Spider-Man to its cause, so it killed itself and the host, that being Norman... So brutal and sad. On the contrary, with Venom, the symbiote strove to reattach itself to Spider-Man. However, the second host, Eddie, died with the symbiote by lusting for its power. The moral of the story from Raimi: Seeking power can lead to a tragic downfall; as with almost every villain's arch. Really fascinating stuff from the Raimi series...
I do like the idea that whenever the Goblin takes over Norman "dies" and is resurrected every time his alter ego takes over and vice versa, his body changing both mentally and physically each time like a werewolf under a full moon. It puts a grim and sinister vibe to an otherwise tragic character.
My god. It’s been so long since I’ve seen the movie that I had forgotten just how outmatched Spider-Man was. Green Goblin is way more powerful than I gave him credit for. Also Willem dafoe.
Willem dafoe is so perfect for the role"Green goblin" cuz he's performance is outstanding and he can do his own goblin laugh still the legendary actor and villain of spidey
God the acting skill to pull off that “DON’T LET HIM TAKE ME AGAIN,” You can understand where Norman Osborn left and the green goblin came back in to try and pretend to be Norman and lure Spider-Man into a trap.
Wait these aren’t the best moments of Willem Dafoe. Every single scene he is in is the best. Perfect actor for the role. Even better in NWH. At a way older age. And he did his own stunts. What’s not to love about this guy?
When I saw Norman becoming Green Goblin for the first time in theaters it scare the living crap of me. I was only 11 years old in 2002 at the time. Defoe is still the greatest Green Goblin and no one will ever top his performance.
ONE OF THE GREATEST CHARACTERS TO EVER GRACE THE SCREEN. WILLIAM DAFOE TRULY HAS TRANSCENDED THE ROLE INTO SOMETHING ICONIC AND TANGIBLE. HE IS REAL AS BLOOD AND GUTS. TRULY A LEGENDARY PERFORMANCE AND ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE MOVIES.
Best Spider-Man Villain: Green Goblin Best Batman Villain: Joker There have been a lot of comments that Willem Dafoe should play the joker. I say that would be a pretty good idea.
The kind of superhero movies i love: fight scenes in new york between all those amazing buildings and architecture, with alot of verticality and at teh same time grounded, doesnt feel too fake, they try to make it look belivable, real, the superheroes are free to move wherever they want in this city instead of humans stuck to the ground
Willem Dafoe will forever be the greatest Green Goblin ever his performance was so great that no other actor even attempted to play him cause they knew its impossible to top
This makes me understand why the Green Goblin is the most powerful, dangerous, sinister, personal, calculated, and deadliest Villains Spider-man ever faced in any adaptation.
Only thing I’ve ever wondered about, or questioned its accuracy, in terms of Dafoe’s Goblin is the line about human evolution. Where does he get the number 40,000 from? Humans have been evolving for as long as humans have existed, and (modern-day) humans have existed for *at least* some 200,000-300,000 years. Just seems like a random number was thrown in there arbitrarily, but as a scientist, Norman certainly would have known better and said a far more accurate figure than just 40,000. He should’ve said something like: … “More than *a quarter-million years* of human evolution, yet we’ve barely even tapped into the vastness of human potential…”. Other than that truly insignificant little anecdote 😅, Lord Willem of the House Defoe’s rendition of the Green Goblin in Raimi’s OG trilogy is still one of the best castings and most underrated roles ever undertaken by anyone for a book-to-film adaptation, and I would go a step further by saying it’s also one of, if not THE best ever, portrayal(s) of an iconic villain.
Best Spider-Man villain, hands down
So happy Willem Dafoe came back for No Way Home
Tbh I'd call him Peter Parker's best villian, I'd say Doc Ock is Spider-man greatest enemy.

Willem Dafoe is THE Green Goblin.

Hi daniel! I definitely agree!😆
He wasn't just cast. He wanted the role.

"The cunning warrior attacks neither body nor mind" has got to be one of the best quotes ever by the Goblin

Norman’s last words before turning to the goblin: “Oh, that’s cold”
That was an unscripted line. It was Dafoe's real reaction.
