Can't imagine a Peugeot 2008 suv thing being around in 43 years time, even if petrol is still here. Great video on a great car in its day, well that's my opinion.
Even the thought of one of those 'barges' makes me shudder.
The 305 gears a'la sump engine always had a bit of a reputation for cooling issues even back to the days when it was in the older 304. If she survives bring her up to Longbridge Deverill on Wed 31st to the Noggin, Nash and Natter at The George. Lots of interesting stuff will rock up!
The 305 will get there I think the back road plan is a good idea and should be a bit kinder on her, plus if you do have to stop it'll be easier than on motorways. She might look a sorry sight, but that was a golden era for Peugeot there aren't many vehicles that would survived being in a hedge for so long. Best wishes to you all, and get well soon Fudgy.
This whole series on the 305 has been wonderful! How about a road trip over the channel to its motherland to garner some spare parts for it and its Van cousin from a French Scrapyard?..🤔😎
Tip for ya, go down to your local boozer, ask them for the cleanerr for the beer lines, i used it before on a heater matrix on a 309,it will clean any pipes
used to be able to buy hydrachloric acid at the chemists in a brown glass bottle have used it many times over the years to clean old Rads out but remember to alwayts add the acid to the water not the other way around otherwise it boils and can burn you.
I was glad the heater matix held up as it brought back memories of a 205 and my 1990s potholing expedition into the brittle plastic and dodgy wiring mine.
Great series of videos on this car. Shame I can't get to FoTU to see it, I'd love to pat its bonnet and say well done.

I once used a Bold container for coolant top up's, smelt lovely. I carried on adding a bit of Bold for a few months, when I eventually stripped the engine down for a rebuild it was gleaming inside.

Good work Al I’ve really enjoyed the 305 series. It’s a great little car.
I remember the old garage at Zeals were the dogs danglies for hard to find bits, there in the petrol station and the old chap there he knew if he had something and usually "a couple quid" for something small and a fiver for most everything else unless it was something exotic like a carb or starter. For tools old Jim Dixon in Bourton often had tool sales outside his little bungalow, he was my rearward neighbour and I got a ton of stuff of quality tools from him over the years, some decent brands and often had a brew with after dropping kids into school there and avoiding going back to the missus as she was always on one about something or other... Rotten cow cleaned me out come divorce, having away both my Merc's which she wiped out one after other as one was a Cossie 190E and she couldn't handle the power and the 280Te was too big for her and she wrote off both :(
I had to scooch back to the beginning of all this as a reminder . Brought a tear to the eye when it burst into life. Such a pretty, design, for all it's "Plainness" We almost considered buying one new in 1988, but they were a bit old school by then.
Words cannot express the flutter of my heart as Al states its a bit floppy while flashing his oddballs pants ❤. It's like a mixed bag of Magic Mike and Mechanics. Glad you replaced the fan belt as I can't imagine Mrs H would be over impressed with a gaping glove box on her knee and her tights in the engine bay. Glad your arm is on the mend but poor Fudgy 😢

Fugie, get well soon, I feel your pain. Al, like you being the owner of a total of 6 privately owned leisure, daily driver and workshop vehicles I have honestly lost count of the amount of mental annoyances throughout them all. I have a pair of sunglasses in every vehicle, I find that helps.
Good luck on the road trip. I’m sure you, Mrs D and Simon will get there triumphantly with a toot of the Peugeot horn as you announce your arrival.
I’m sure you won’t need any RUclips magic where we see you set off and then in the next clip, watch you turn up but in the back ground is your recovery truck. She’ll be fine. A small box of spares in the boot and a few tools and perhaps a few petrol cans of fuel and that’ll do it.
Sundays viewing even if a little later than normal will be a great watch.

I had to something similar with a Talbot Solara. The Pickle jar ( expansion tank) kept filling with sand. Turns out the car had a life by the seaside before I had it in Sunny Surrey.

I washed my Toyota starlet (4K) out once and filled the spark plug holes with water. I ended up pulling the vacuum advance of the distributor and suck in the water out with that at high revs. It worked and got me home

I drive about 15,000 miles a year for work, and I'd very happily do it in this car. I'm not sure what my employer would think - although I'm currently using a 2002 Ford Focus that I got for free.
I would buy pass that heater matrix as you clean out everything and check everything wat wat ever else you did just take a extra jacket in the car

They were a terrible thing back in the day, uk cars had smaller rads than French and African cars, but total respect to you and if it starts they run all day, don’t forget your earplugs!

Really enjoyable video as always mate, thank you. Can't come to FOTU, as my Mrs and co are doing a craft stall at Welland steam fair this weekend (just as good as FOTU, loads of stuff to look at!!) Have you got any serious long term plans for the pug after the festival? I know you've put a hell of alot of work into it but it looks like it's enjoying its return to life, it'd be a great shame and a waste to lay it up. Couldn't you try selling it at the festival? Make sure you use sat nav you dont want to actually go to Peterborough,😮 2 entrances this year one for classics and one for modern cars mate. They have emailed instructions but you know what us blokes are like at reading instructions

Yep that’s the one! Even the fan and it’s temperature switch works😂
The C-reg 305 I had in the 90s was the later model with the XU engine and electric radiator fan. I used to see the older pre-facelift models in scrapyards, and always thought that the fanbelt layout was interesting, I'd never seen anything like that before. I quite like the tiny little rev counter on the older models as well.
Why is it not nice to the matrix, is the risk it splits?
