Hi gd day sir...So during monthly inspection can i remove the cartridge and check the weight to ensure that the cartridge has nt dicharged over a period of time.
The same here and like for all others your video. You are doing not full visual inspection. You must check the whole unit which means that you must check the base/bottom of the extinguishers to check if there is no any damage or rust.
There is no cartridge for CO2 bcose it is pressurize no chance of pressure getting less no?? but extinguisher having cartridge there is chance of cartridge getting expired by mistake n someone can put the pin back but by gauge we will know the pressure no?

@@astlefernandes1429 where did you see this ? In all areas where you have electrical panels like bridge, CCR, GALLEY, Switchboard room, emergency generator room, everywhere you will see CO2 extinguisher.

You can re-use the extinguisher after replacing the punctured cartridge in case of DCP and foam but cannot reuse CO2 extinguisher ( thus you need 100% spare of it ). For CO2 extinguisher you have to land it ashore for refilling.

No every portable extinguisher doesn't have vent holes Cartridge type extinguishers have vent hole in cap assembly as when you strike the plunger it punctures the cartridge of extinguisher and try to expell the extinguishing media If there is any choke/obstruction for expelling the extinguishing media then in order to release the pressure build up in extinguisher vent hole is provided
Related to atmospheric valve what I guess is about snifter valve located in cap assembly Snifter valve is located in cap assembly of extinguisher for water and foam and that to for cartridge type only so that when the extinguisher is placed near any heat I mean exposed directly to sun light then those liquid start to boil and due to internal pressure those liquid will be expelled out with operating the extinguisher In order to prevent that and release those presuure snifter valve is present in cap assembly which releases the pressure build up inside
Stickers can be ordered from makers but that is tedious job to order and obtain it from makers for making supplies for just sticker , thus you can laminate proper sticker from makers manual and post it on extinguisher if inspection is very near and u don't have time , and can raise a requisition of new fire extinguisher and keep it ready to show if anyone points out the faded markings

As per ISGOTT 6, PAGE 101, Dry chemical can be used in all types of fire like class A, B,C,D,E but mostly dry chemical is used in LPG ships, that is class C, Also do keep in mind that Dry chemical inhibits the chemical reaction to extinguish fire.
Both are same thing...dip tube is a tube having opening from bottom...it's dipped inside dcp or foam liquid ....when pressure is created by punchtured CO2 cartridge, dcp or foam comes out thru dip tube.
Yes they do open up ...for powder and foam, they remove the contents in bucket, check for caking or any other problems, inspect inside extinguisher and they put the same content back... In my case the CO2 cartridge of few extinguisher were found fallen down inside extinguisher, when they opened up the extinguisher.
And yes for recharging u have to land it ashore ....they will recharge, carryout out 5 yearly Inspection and they will put 5yearly Inspection tag and return u back the extinguisher.
It differs from manufacturer to manufacturer, some have 5 yr and some have 10 yr, so you have to comply with least period when compared between flag state requirements and manufacture requirements.
It's very simple, rotate cartridge anticlockwise to remove old punctured cartridge and rotate new cartridge clockwise in its thread to fit back new cartridge

Yes their is a requirement. Requirement depends on flag state. For eg. Singapore flag says to discharge one each type of extinguisher, which can be recharged onboard ONE YEARLY, however if company policy says you have to discharge every 2 months so you have to discharge every 2 months and maintain proper records. In complying with company requirements, flag state requirement is fulfilled so no need to discharge extinguisher separately.

Refilling is very simple. In makers manual it would be written the foam:water ratio to be mixed. And foam liquid u ll get In small cans for each extinguisher, so make just mix the ratio in a bucket and pour it into empty extinguisher, connect new cartridge and box pack it.
