I’ve seen a change in Nanny Di over the months, as will be seen with many older people and people who live alone, she has definitely lost her mischievous spark, she looks vulnerable and has lost confidence, she used to enjoy going out to her different clubs, being with her friends and meeting people, being with her family, going to the cinema and going on holiday, take this away from someone (anyone!) who lives on their own and they will suffer, being shut in their house on their own is barbaric, cruel and sad and there will be a decline. She needs her spark back and to start living again 💫

I am in my late sixties and I can only say it's a difficult time for older people as well as youngsters (and workers) but all for different reasons. My husband has had a knee operation cancelled now three times and is in pain. I have various health issues and most of our friends have likewise & are living vastly different lives now - sheltering whatever that means! We are lucky, we have our son and daughter in law nearish but the corona virus is impacting dreadfully on our lives in ways we would never have thought possible. We are told endlessly to ' keep safe' don't take risks, look after the over seventies' look after the young by letting them out, but keep the Oldies & vulnerables safe indoors. Whilst all this is going on, our oldies are often housebound, dealing with pain or financial issues & lonely., separated from family and wondering if they will ever be able to live life fully again. I used to be a volunteer, go to keep fit, enjoy coffee mornings and help out at a playgroup - all gone. I feel for Nanny Di. Like many of my friends she is struggling with the hopelessness and trying to deal with her ailments and keep positive.Try to make her feel 'useful' and 'special' and buy her treats - we all need treats! Before retirement, i was a therapeautic counsellor, I was a problem solver, now I am an old lady, sheltered from life. It aint great let me tell you, and I am one of the lucky ones!!!

I'm worried about Nanny Di, it must be soo hard being on your own, not feeling well, no one to help, in pain ,scared of what's happening in the world . Theres no way I would feel confident in getting public transport, safely and comfortably, especially ill. Sounds like she needs rest mentally and physically but some sort of security and safety of having people who care around
You are such a sweet son Mark, you love your mummy and your mummy loves you. It's hard to see older relatives in pain, or sad and lonely, but you are always there for your mum. I get your concern Mark but It’s natural for people to slow down as they get older, it’s actually quite protective because the old vital organs know that they can’t work as quickly as they used to so slow everythiing down so as not to do damage. Nanny Di is doing pretty well for someone of her age, as long as she gets daily exercise and eats and rest well she should be fine! It’s hard for you watching her slow down but think of it that’s she’s protecting herself rather than declining in any way. Mentally it’s better for her to set less tasks that are achievable rather than getting frustrated because she can’t do what she used to. Also mentally she’s probably frightened of being cut off from you all with another lockdown which a lot of the older generation are worrying about right now. Maybe suggest she comes to yours for half the week and goes back to hers the other half? Just to keep her company but also give her rest brakes from the hectic schedule? Also I’d say it’s a lot for her to be travelling on the tube across London (she will of course say it’s fine and she can do it but it’s a lot) and it might be putting her off coming, so maybe pick her up and drop her? I know traffics bad but it won’t be as often if you do the split week thing. Just some ideas but it’s lovely that you’re thinking about her!

Great vlog Thank you! Lots of action this week. Loved it ALL truly!! I resonated with you Mark concerning your Mum, it is hard to watch family and especially our Mum's getting older. I have chronic pain and that can really stop you in your tracks, your Mum from an outsider looking in seems in very good shape and is active even in these crazy days. Watching my 82 year old Mum fighting breast cancer for the last 2 years has been very hard and an up and down battle, but like your Mum she is taking it in her stride the best way she can. Learning to rest was very difficult but needed and she does keep active although it is now age and health appropriate , I really think the fact she is an avid reader and enjoys technology has been keeping her mentally fit and that is a game changer as you age. That said I do notice she is becoming more and more forgetful and that is a just another worry, it is so true that at some point the child becomes the parent . Mark both you and Nadia are absolutely brilliant with your Mum and Nadia's parents , sadly so many children in our age group don't bother with their parents it is so nice to see the caring and concern you give . I understand how you feel about your Mum Mark Hang in there xx

You could start rowing together. Full body workout, low impact, fresh air, vitamin D, and you can do it at any age and you can easily modify the moves to your needs. Love you guys. Feel better nanny Di.

I agree with @mark_adderley its very difficult to deal with old age in these circumstances.... My health isnt good as I have Fibromyalgia and I love the Sun and busy .myself in the garden but as soon as the weather changes and im stuck in doors my mental status changes and I have to push myself to do things because of my health issues including bad knees Im over weight and can only do so much.... I try to remain positive and get up each day,even going out in the cold maybe accelerating for some but for me it makes my muscles worse.... Sorry I didn't mean to complain or moan just to say I know how @nanny.di might be feeling.💗

Awww Mark i am going through the exact same thing with my Mum, her health is suffering, she is feeling down, not eating properly, my sister went and got her from her house, only round the corner mind you, and said your coming to stay, she didn’t want too, but my sister insisted, this pandemic has taken its toll on our elderly generation and I just wish it would Go Do One..!! and that’s putting it politely...If I still lived close to Nanny Di I would definitely pop and see her and take her for coffee ❤️😊😘😘

I feel for you worrying about Nanny Di , my parents died when they were in their 60s , so I never got to that stage with them , it’s a shame she doesn’t live closer,but I imagine she doesn’t want to give up her independence. What nanny di is doing regarding exercise is enough I think...and what you’re doing for her is enough to keep her young, you won’t be able to stop the ageing process, I tried that with my mum, but it will win in the end I’m afraid, don’t think about it, seize the moment and the times you have with her now, focus on the things that are good with her and things she’s able to do, get all you want done and said done and said now and don’t have regrets in the future when the inevitable happens xxx

Great vlog Thank you! Lots of action this week. Loved it ALL truly!! I resonated with you Mark concerning your Mum, it is hard to watch family and especially our Mum's getting older. I have chronic pain and that can really stop you in your tracks, your Mum from an outsider looking in seems in very good shape and is active even in these crazy days. Watching my 82 year old Mum fighting breast cancer for the last 2 years has been very hard and an up and down battle, but like your Mum she is taking it in her stride the best way she can. Learning to rest was very difficult but needed and she does keep active although it is now age and health appropriate , I really think the fact she is an avid reader and enjoys technology has been keeping her mentally fit and that is a game changer as you age. That said I do notice she is becoming more and more forgetful and that is a just another worry, it is so true that at some point the child becomes the parent . Mark both you and Nadia are absolutely brilliant with your Mum and Nadia's parents , sadly so many children in our age group don't bother with their parents it is so nice to see the caring and concern you give . I understand how you feel about your Mum Mark Hang in there xx

It’s great that Nanny Di is on social media and you can text and FaceTime her. She loves gardening so take her to a garden centre and have coffee. It’s so hard that we don’t have holidays to look forward to. You’re a great son though Mark and she knows you will always be there for her.
You could start rowing together. Full body workout, low impact, fresh air, vitamin D, and you can do it at any age and you can easily modify the moves to your needs. Love you guys. Feel better nanny Di.

I agree with @mark_adderley its very difficult to deal with old age in these circumstances....
My health isnt good as I have Fibromyalgia and I love the Sun and busy .myself in the garden but as soon as the weather changes and im stuck in doors my mental status changes and I have to push myself to do things because of my health issues including bad knees Im over weight and can only do so much....
I try to remain positive and get up each day,even going out in the cold maybe accelerating for some but for me it makes my muscles worse....
Sorry I didn't mean to complain or moan just to say I know how @nanny.di might be feeling.💗

Awww Mark i am going through the exact same thing with my Mum, her health is suffering, she is feeling down, not eating properly, my sister went and got her from her house, only round the corner mind you, and said your coming to stay, she didn’t want too, but my sister insisted, this pandemic has taken its toll on our elderly generation and I just wish it would Go Do One..!! and that’s putting it politely...If I still lived close to Nanny Di I would definitely pop and see her and take her for coffee ❤️😊😘😘

I feel for you worrying about Nanny Di , my parents died when they were in their 60s , so I never got to that stage with them , it’s a shame she doesn’t live closer,but I imagine she doesn’t want to give up her independence. Dinas grapes looked amazing and I loved the little corner that was created in Teddy’s garden x

What nanny di is doing regarding exercise is enough I think...and what you’re doing for her is enough to keep her young, you won’t be able to stop the ageing process, I tried that with my mum, but it will win in the end I’m afraid, don’t think about it, seize the moment and the times you have with her now, focus on the things that are good with her and things she’s able to do, get all you want done and said done and said now and don’t have regrets in the future when the inevitable happens xxx
