FYI: John Lennon was the last Beatle to sign the paperwork at the Poly in December of 1974. He was there with his girlfriend, May Pang & his 1st son, Julian. :)

*sigh* I'll never be able to afford a Disney deluxe hotel but it's nice to watch these videos and get a feel for them

I have never stayed at the Poly (maybe never will) but I frequently hang out there. We always try to plan a resort day into our stays and this is always a must.

I have been hearing murmurs that once the Lava Pool is done, that they'll be moving onto the quiet pool, making the construction last longer. Also: the week I'm going in October only has availability in club level. So, I don't know what's going on. I'm watching anxiously to see if I should jump ship or not.

diablosrouge I'm not a fan of the construction (as you can tell in the video) - BUT - I'm firmly convinced that when it's done - Poly will be the best resort on property.

Probably a silly question but club level is not moving right?

They must've upped the game on the 'Ohana character breakfast since this was filmed. We went in September and the food, service and character interaction was fantastic!

I loved the grilled cheese as well and nearly cried the last time I went back since the redesign and it wasn't listed! I did ask and they assured me I could still order it as you said, thank goodness. I always always always order a grilled cheese and a side of fries there. Definitely my favorite quick service meal at the resorts, it's absolutely delicious.

I get that big water features can be problematic, especially in climates that nurture cockroach infestations, but I felt the lobby remodel was underwhelming. I can never remember a time when the GCH was really hurting for seating. Plus, the new water feature is barely even a water feature - a small pile of rocks with a slow trickle. It looks like a budget compromise, even with the tiki mascot. Kathy's right - it needed to be bigger to look right in the space.

Wait, removing the center fountain, plant area is going back to it's roots??? Not it's Disney roots, I was there in 1973 and so was that beautiful center area. It's one of the features I remember most...along with the original pool where you swam under the waterfall to find steps up to the slide. Oh and can't forget the music piped in under the water!.

  • @jamesryan246

You hit the nail right on head with constructionpalooza. Charging full price in the state its in is unreal. That being said, the lobby is a bus stop! They should have redesigned a new fountain, that was the key element in the instant relaxation you feel as you walk in. There was a huge petition to actually save the fountain, thats how important it was. if you dont see that , you arent as in touch with the resort as you may think you are. Part of its soul , as said, has died.

Stop harassing the blond woman about the palm tree! Mercy. She makes a good point about extra botanical details.

John Lennon signed the paperwork that officially broke up the Beatles at the Polynesian Resort on December 29, 1974. John, Julian, & May Pang left New York the following day to spend Christmas in Florida.

MONORAIL WARNING: I don't know how temporarily or longer-term this will matter through construction....But, the monorails are no longer a transportation option at the Poly. You now have to use the boats or buses to even get to the Magic Kingdom. AND!!! Those boats and buses are ALSO picking up people from the Grand Floridian and the Contemporary. So FORGET IT! We waited through 4 boats - never got on. We walked to the buses and were told "we'll get to the Magic Kingdom EVENTUALLY" < honestly, this is what the cast member/driver said. We drove to the Contemporary, had to answer questions (the 3rd degree as to why we were there) from a grumpy gate-guard, and walked over. The ordeal wasted nearly 1.5 hours of $$ vacation time.
At least for the short run...ANOTHER reason to avoid the Poly at ALL costs!!

yeah, we were there from 2/20 to 2/26 and the monorail was running every evening. early in the morning it wasn't up yet but by lunch it was.

Ok...When we asked at the desk they mentioned they weren't sure when or if it would be up anytime soon. I thought I would pass that on. Perhaps they were being a bit too pessimistic with their timeline.

Amazing to see how many things these so called experts got wrong. The rooms were never meant to be slid in and out. They're moving the pool to the left? "You will never be able to see the castle" - wrong! I could go on. As someone who has been going to the Poly since 1974, I can tell you Pete has no clue what the the Poly's roots are. I could only take 30 minutes before I quit. What an annoying bunch. Now I remember why I stopped listening to their podcasts.

Part of it is that the heavy guy talks too much and doesn't like when the other panelists disagree with him. He should let some of the others have more of a say. Most of the video is him pontificating and behaving dismissively towards opinions that differ from his own. Yawn.
