    I was diagnosed over 25 years ago. Over the years I've tried to explain DISH to others. I used the medical terms and I've used visual aids. But the best description which people seem to grasp is when I tell them "the human body is made up of 206 bones. My skeleton is trying to form just one bone."

    Great video. Just diagnosed at 62. Had been suffering for years. GP just ignored. Finally went to a rheumatologist after statin reaction in my back was so severe. Got off statins, and pain went away, but went ahead and went to rheumotologist, had exama and xrays, and found out I have DISH. Also had kidney stones 3 times in two years previous. Rheumotolgist put me on gabopentin, and amazing relief. I can get in and out of the car now, for example, not feeling and moving like an old man. And neck is feeling much better. Had always been limber, until the pandemic and kidney stones. Did notice a bambooish type vertebrae before all this got chronic. Physical therapist had thought it was an edema. Was thinking about taking glucosamine and chondrotin, but reaearch tends to indicate ineffective.

    Hi Gary,
    Thank you so much for creating this channel and your videos, they are very helpful considering the lack of good information about DISH. I am female aged 54 (no metabolic issues other than slightly raised cholesterol which I’m working on), I was diagnosed in August 2022 after 2 years of not knowing and being misdiagnosed with axial-spa/AS as I am HLAb27 positive, it took a private mri scan and expert doctor to tell the difference between the two conditions. I found there was so much support for Ax-spa/AS but sadly very little for DISH and have been left alone to manage this difficult condition. It’s certainly a learning curve, it’s really helpful of you to share your insights!
    Thanks again,
    Lucie

    Thanks. I’m 59 and was diagnosed a few years back. I do some very similar exercises every morning which help a lot. I also do meditation and intermittent fasting. The fasting I think not only helps with keeping my weight down but also seems to reduce inflammation in the joints. I also try not to drink too much and gave up caffeine a while back. My biggest temptation is sugar but I managed to reverse a type two diabetes diagnosis a few years back. My next challenge is to really kick my sugar and junk food habit permanently. Hopefully that’ll also help with gut health which seems to be a great benefit as you get older regardless of your health. Thanks again for taking the time to pass these tips and ideas onto other people. Very helpful. Cheers.

      @@garypul1245 Hi Gary, just an update on my sugar habit. I've managed to be 'sugar free' for over three weeks now and while the first week or so was difficult with cravings etc, I have to say that I notice a very significant reduction in my neck and back stiffness. I even had a few days last week where I couldn't do any stretching due to early morning commtiments. And normally this would mean I'd be totally seized up by mid afternoon. But this time, that hasn't happened. Obviously I'm not a medical expert and this is all purely personal and anecdotal. But I'm assuming getting rid of sugar has perhaps significantly reduced the inflamation in my joints. When I say, I'm sugar-free, I'm just talking about added empty sugars such as cakes, biscuiits, chocolate, sodas etc. I still have some fruit and some processed carbohydrate; though not that much and I've been avoiding white bread and too much pasta for a while now. So, it's sort of been a phased approach. But I have to say that so far I'm really very pleasantly surprised by the results. Anyway, if it does inspire you to try it yourself I'd be interested to see the results here on your channel. Cheers.

They did surgery and put in, on both side, metal implants to replace the disks that were damage. I built up a boat load of spurs all around my face and my mouth would not open. Had to have surgery again and have my face scraped and had radiation treatment. DISH makes since.

    Excellent stuff. Do you take more protein through out the day? Do you think if developing the muscles a bit more do you think in your opinion that it would help ? Also I think you are right with gut health. I believe all health starts with the gut. One think I think would help is eliminating all simple sugars and cut back on the majority of complex carbohydrates . To try to cut down on as much inflammation as possible. Would you agree? I think good fats would also be beneficial and fish oils. I am new to this disease and am starting to research it. My brother was just diagnosed with it a few months ago. And myself I am a personal trainer and trying to find a link to helping him. I started watching your videos and I like how you are combating the disease. any information or opinions in the questions I just asked would be greatly appreciate it. And one little tip that I learned is that if you're going to take magnesium take zinc with it it'll help it absorb faster. PS I think what saying about posture is very beneficial with anybody but more so with this disease. Thanks

    • @dishdiseasesimplified4728
      @dishdiseasesimplified4728  2 года назад +1

      Hi Joseph. Thank you for your in depth reply. I do not consciously think about Protein after my smoothie but I do try and keep away from refined sugars and carbohydrates because its these that I believe drives DISH. I'm not a muscle man, i only carry out my exercises in the morning but I know a lot of DISHERS gain benefit from strengthening and building muscle to support their body. Very interesting that your brother has DISH which underlines the possible genetic link? Gut health is mega important. There is more proof recently that the gut might be responsible for a number of diseases such as Parkingson's, MS and Chrones disease so loads of pre-biotics, fermented foods and soluble fibre to feed the gut. In terms of posture I think this has had a great influence in my disease. I am quite tall so I tend to "hinge" at the top of my thoracic spine and this is where most of my pain originates, I am also having problems with my neck. Good luck with your research, keep me informed of progress, one thing with DISH that you will learn is that nothing makes sense!

Also my family have long torso's and tend to slouch over. Me myself notice this situation when I was younger so I always try to work on my posture because I thought most of the pain they had in their back may have been through this.

      @dishdiseasesimplified4728  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Deidre, thank you dropping by and I am sorry that you have been dx at such a young age. One positive spin is that you still have time to make some big changes in your life to influence the progession of DISH. If you are overweight change your diet to exclude or reduce processed food, beige food, cakes, white bread, artifical sweeteners, soda and get to your ideal BMI. If you have high blood pressure it could be reduced by losing weight and doing more non impact exercise or if it is stubborn use medication to lower it. Try and get some exercise routine into your life and join a yoga or pilates class. Make sure you carry out gentle stretching everyday. If you are a diabetic losing weight and cutting out sugar and processed food may reduce your sugar levels and thus become non diabetic. If you are in a lot of pain use Naproxen for inflammation and Paracetamol for pain. If you get muscle spasms get your doctor to prescribe Baclofen which reduces the muscle tension. Depending on how much you want to commit to these changes will influence greatly how your DISH progresses. I wish you all the luck for your journey and you can always come back and ask questions if you want to. regards Gary
