- Open celebration of mass murder, rape, and torture by terrorists. Kosher restaurants vandalized with smashed windows and graffitied swastikas. Jewish students assaulted by their classmates. What is behind the anti-Semitic madness that, over the months since the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust, has gripped America’s supposedly cosmopolitan spaces-especially our universities? Why has the rise of this virulent hatred caught both university and political leaders flatfooted? How should students, parents, police, and taxpayers respond? And what does this evil portend for America’s future?
City Journal has been at the forefront of exploring and answering these crucial questions, most recently in our Spring issue symposium, “Fighting the Oldest Hate.” Please join contributors Richard Goldberg and Hannah Meyers, along with Tablet’s Park MacDougald, for a lively conversation about the origins of this crisis and how to address it. The discussion will be moderated by Manhattan Institute president Reihan Salam and will include time for audience Q&A.

Very confusing because Israel vs. Palestine is a war between two Semitic peoples. When folks say "anti-Semitic," they really mean "anti-Jewish" or "anti-Zionist". This sort of linguistic abuse makes for all kinds of mischief - like accusing Jewish anti-Zionists of being "anti-Semitic".
instead of embarrassing yourself by showing how ignorant you are, why dont you look up the origin and etymology of the word "antisemitism", before you post
You are confusing genealogy with the term, first coined 1862 by Wilhelm Marr, member of League of Antisemites, to denote they hated German Jews not because of their religion but because of their ethnicity.
@@drnono3386 You make a good point. Many dictionaries just define "anti-Semitic" as anti-Jewish, because many English speakers use the word that way. I just find it confusing because Semitic *still* has a meaning for linguistic groups - as in the Semitic languages - and possibly for genetic (racial) groups. And these groups comprise more than just the Jewish religious group. I think if you are writing an essay on the topic, you ought to define your terms.

Do you want to redefine the west indies? how about the middle east, it is not in the middle nor in the east?
To ease the complexity for you tens of thousands of essays and books describing Nazi antisemitism as hatred for Arabs which were actually collaborators?
Lets not split hairs lets just call them for what they are Jew haters .and pliant people go together .
Are they going to call people who oppose Iran's treatment of women Islamophobic next?
They wave it away like it's trivial. Feminism only counts when they fight for the right to wear a Burka.
Yes, they already do it. Iranian dissidents in Canada are called Islamophobic and silenced for speaking up against treatment of women, hijab etc. Yasmine Muhammad has a very interesting podcasts about it.
@@kathartzell4856 Not by Zionists though. The point is that it is absurd.
@@kenlandon6130Of course not. Both sides practice gender segregation.
I don't have time finishing the video. Do they mention the underlining reason(s) or excuse(s) for anti-Semitism?
A great deal of formal education can create people who are especially good at rationalizing -
These people should do what any 14 year old can do, which is to use the internet to see what is currently being done by Israelis to the people of Gaza.
Two words: Bibi Netanyahu.
Seriously? The entire Arab Middle East is seething with jihadists and you blame the leader of the only democratic state in the region? I'm sorry but that's naivety at the highest level
And my favorite thing. My favorite thing by far is no matter how much they peddle the news media like this guy..... History always repeats itself, especially for them. That's what happens when you think you're the chosen people and everybody'd also trash
USSR was 1st state to enact antisemitic laws because the Bolsheviks were top heavy with them, and hate that they lost it to Christianity in 1994...
tzarist russia was antisemitic
you never got to the root cause of why there are jews who have joined with groups like jvp and if not now (both which were founded by non-jewish antisemites) and other splinter groups
has much to do with the replacement theology of "tikun olam"
from these sects you got at least two generations who have absolutely no connection to torah and mitzvot and who believe that the religion of their forefathers has to do only with social justice
and i have seen zero movement from those sects to fix this....because it would mean that they would have to admit that they have been wrong and must do teshuva
My God, the intellectuals haven’t been told about anything. I wonder if any of the four panelists here could even explain loosely how the Powell memo relates to antisemitism.
It's because Israel is actively involved in ethnic cleansing in Gaza. this isn't complicated.
what happened on 10/7???
@@lesweizman388 Nothing that justifies ethnic cleansing.
@@utah_koidragon7117 you use a term you dont understand in order to shame israel for fighting back after a war was declared on 10/7
we fight back now...if lasting peace means clearing the entirety of gaza of the arab horde...SO BE IT
@@lesweizman388 They never mention that. It's insane that the world can't see what is actually going on. These protestors are useful idiots in the game.I am sick of them. Deport them like Greece is planning. It's the usual face of radical islam come to roost again.
@@lesweizman388 We are all being given a demonstration of what ethnic cleansing is by Israel in real time.
This has been a real mask off moment for many Jews, who have exposed themselves as perhaps history's worst hypocrites, enthusiastically supporting this kind of atrocity as long as they're the ones carrying it out. People aren't going to forget.
Standing against evil is not anti semitism, calling out all the atrocities Israel has committed is not anti semitism and calling the people evil that support it is not.
@darrin8955
Name 4 atrocities Israel has committed
*Few samples of LAST 20 years:*
Nigeria vs Boko Haram 350,000 dead
Sudan vs JEM/Darfur 300,000 dead
Yemen vs Houthis 233,000 dead
Pakistan vs Islamists 50,000 dead
Syria's civil war 500,000 dead
South Sudan's civil war 400,000 dead
Ethiopia and Eritrea vs Tigray 600,000 dead
No protests for all these dead.
Big players are playing the sheeple.
Only ANTISEMITES compare nazi atrocities to a defensive war. When it's Muslims killing muslims, muslims DO NOT CARE (See Yemen, Sudan, Syria, Iran, Lebanon etc) When it's Israelis defending themselves, the muslims release their hatred for the Jewish people. No Jews, no news.
Keep playing the “anti-semitism” and holocaust card
Keep playing the Islamist and jihadi card
@@XYZ5BOOKS all sorts of tribal Africans, Arabs, Asian Indians wiping each other have no particular card to play, but let's concentrate on Israel trying to keep avowed murderers out.
So I watched for about 55 minutes, and then I have to hear the whole Trump is bad and there's still people who could inconceivably vote for Trump. It's just like the people sit in a pot of hot oil and just stay there because it's convenient. You're supposed to be an institution of learning and thinking why do you present the same old same old. I mean I know the woman Miss Myers works at Columbia which is probably the most regressive university on the face of the planet. But really do I have to watch this whole thing, a very balanced discussion of reality and then have to hear this professor say, "oh yeah i'm so afraid of the right wing, that's who I'm really afraid of. The people that could inconceivably vote for Trump....blah blah blah." I'm not a Trump fan... he's crass and New Yorkish, I don't like Trump but I see him as the only option. Really...what has the right wing done to her recently? Did she look around while they were protesting on the very grass of her holy institution? Those weren't the right wing she seems to be so frightened of.
The good times of the jew are over .
