if you can frontside flip like muska did they become easier all u gotta do is not turn, also I don't know why but i learned them switch first for some reason the body stay aligned over the board more naturally if i remember right with my front foot i control the board with my big toe
The more higher up you put your foot is how you make it more vertical I tend to put it in between the middle and lower part of the board and as my back foot I don’t really scoop I press in this certain spot just next to the pocket and it does the scoop for me all I need to worry about is the flick
The way I learned to flip hard flips is to basically write an upside down "J" with your front foot while half popping a front shove. I used that reference when I did skateboard instruction at camp woodward and all my campers got it fairly quick
@Lelo so youre using the nose to guide the flip by starting with the initial upside down J (more like ſ if youre goofy), then putting more pop than scoop into your front shuv.
Oh there is plenty of hope bro. I just Started back as well and I’m 28. Got all my tricks back and on to new ones I thought I could never do. You will be great I guarantee.
You're good dude. 37 and just got back to it a few months ago after ten years off. I've relearned a lot of what I could do, and actually quite a bit of what I couldn't. I won't be doing big handrails anymore, but still fun and healthy to hit small stuff and get technical with it.
Dude you smiling on every attempt even when you threw your hands up like “I’m done” then you came right back again still smiling..inspiring man. Thanks for sharing your joy with the world. Changed my whole perspective on what trying tricks is all about.
Good work, I'm 38 and just getting back into skating after a 20 year break, I'm sore, and I have lost my balance, but it's coming back. Enjoy your videos
Me - lands hardflips and ghetto bird constantly, also still struggles with rock fakies. Interesting to see how people improve within skating so differently. Love from Estonia ❤️
@@Metal_Mohan how long did it take you to recover your skills? I'm 32, didn't skate for 17 years. I wonder if I still have a muscle memory for ollie, kickflip and heelflip. I think I'll buy a deck this summer 😀 Upd: i’m buying a deck tomorrow =)
Just started skating again at 54! I was a vert skater years ago and bought a longboard about 2 months ago... I'm loving it but wanted to do more tricks so I bought a board for street skating! I'm still getting used to the shape and the shorter wheelbase as compared to a park or pool board but my confidence is building everyday! It's never too late to start again! Having great core balance and being in shape doesn't hurt either! Shredd On!
This was awesome to watch! I've just started skating about a month ago - and spent the last two weeks trying to heelflip (about an hour per day). And I finally got one yesterday! Good to see someone take the effort to just do one after the other to complete a trick!
Hey dude this is incredibly inspiring. At first simply because the amount of control with grinds and slides that you have along with the age factor. When you mentioned your torn ACL I instantly connected with you. I tore my ACL about 5 years ago and that sort of led to my decline of skateboarding. Every trick I do feels like I’m protecting my leg first rather than committing. Recently I’ve been doing A LOT of stretching and very lightweight strengthening exercises and have experienced a massive increase in my knee’s reliability. I’ve started skating again and people don’t believe that I stopped skating since I didn’t lose much style. I really hope I can keep making it stronger to be able to relearn some more advanced tricks. Right now it’s all about stylish/effortless basic tricks. Since I feel safe and confident. Thanks for showing me that I’m not the only one out here hustling with this injury and no surgery.
I love the perseverance! You seemingly always do what you set out to do. Funny to learn just now that your 33 (as am I), after I just started skating again and am watching ALL of your videos. I've never landed a hardflip, only just landed a varial after like 4 hours back on a board in over 10 years!
I remember when i learned that trick like 15 years ago, did them for a couple months then just stopped. I would be stoked to skate with you someday and learn a trick together! You have also inspired me to start my own channel at age 40 re-learning tricks. Thank you for your videos and inspiration. From one Chad to another Thanks for being RAD!
Bro this is motivation, I'm getting back into skating and I'm 27. I gotta relearn a lot of stuff but much respect for this vid. Peace to you and yours man. 🙏🏽
Got a new setup 2 days ago after not skating for 13 or so years. Still got the heel flips downpack, another day or two and il have the fakie Tre flips after that I'm going for the hardflip! My 3 year old wants a board now and hasn't stopped asking to use mine. 🙂 Gunna be great teaching her!!! Love Ur channel.
Man I understand the mental block, did 1 all surgery and hurt it again trying to come back to soon. I'm now on recovery from my 2nd one. I've learned not to rush things and I'll be able to skate again like I used to in the future. When I do come back, I would love to give hardflips a try again. Keep up the good work
Just picked up skating again! Felt so good landing a heelflips again. Gonna start on this trick next! You're definitely an inspiration on learning mini ramps :) (I'm 30. Skated at age 15 and stopped at 20)
Dude props! I don't really skate anymore, I'm 34 and I also tore my left ACL still skated and snowboarded for 4 years and played hard. It wasn't till I tore my mcl at a skate park and couldn't walk on it. I got surgery and after about a year it felt normal and strong again. Then I had my other knee blow apart the next summer acl, mcl, meniscus. So after 2 full knee reconstructions and both ACL replacements I just don't really skate much. But you've inspired me and you're right, that mental block is the biggest most difficult thing to get past. I always feel like my new ACLs are these fragile little strings in my mind when though that's not the case. Keep up the hard work thanks for this video!
Hey Chad thanks for all of the trick tips you provide my friend😊 you have inspired a 50 year old that haven’t skated in 10 years to pic my board back up and build a new mini in the back yard💯🔥👊💪 keep up the good work sir👊😊
I haven’t skated in about 5 yrs, and had the same exact mental blocks as you for the longest time. What eventually helped start landing them was the emphasis of the flick on the front foot. You essentially have to mob flip it to get the leg outta the way. But I would literally put my front foot a little further back and would go even further than a mob flip.I would literally flip less than 90 degrees; more like flip at a 50-60 degree angle. This will help speed up both rotations of the board. Also I agree that the nose tip is better for them. Awesome video as always man 👌👍
Chad! So Sick!!! I'm 29 and I've been trying this trick for so long. It is time. I'm going to keep in mind what you said about them. I also try to do them off my nose. I do that with other tricks too like varial heel, varial flip. I even 360 flip off the nose. One of the Hardest tricks out there no doubt. It's cool to see your channel getting more traffic too! Always good stuff man! Peace
Used to skate everyday all day but after 2 kids couldn't find the time between work and everything to go get hurt skating .so just recently been back on the board..can still do some flip tricks but lost alot of them due to lower back pain and my knees and ankles aren't what they used to be .still collect decks but Im 33 now so yea just recently got back on rails. Keep it up !
Man I feel you with the mental barrier. I fucked my ankle up real bad 6 years ago and recently picked up skateboarding again. Battling against your brain is the hardest part. Good job on getting the hardflip!
Ive been skating for 20 years and never knew how to hardflip. I watched SKATE HACKS video on how to hardflip and literally was landing them after my 6th try. I learned you have to delay that front foot flick just a tad to let the board pop up for the vertical rotation. Such a fun trick!
I feel like mine flip perfectly every try and stay under me and I front foot catch them but I'm just too scared to fully commit because I feel like I'm gonna miss the flick and get popsicled
Hell yeah, I was ultra hyped when you landed it! as a 31yr old skater, I felt like im getting to the point in age to just stop skating. But you've given me hope and motivation man!! Thank you
Came back after about 15 + years off a board this is the trick I couldn’t ever get back then and I been going so hard to get it I’m gonna give this jump backwards tip you gave see if I can finally unlock this one thanks for the video
I have the same exact problems when trying.. this is inspiring for me, to put the work in and get them good.. 35 years old, and I have only landed like 3 or 4.. the tips will help.
Alot in the backfoot the way i do them. Shoulders square. Almost have yourback foot more on the side u would scoop a tre or a bs 360. push down and out and just use your front foot to guide the flip of the hardflip not so much slide.
That’s what I needed to hear. Your on point about the 3 ways to do a hard flip. I basically feel like if it’s not vertical I don’t want it. Just cus it counts isn’t what I want I want that like... perfection.
Yeah I'm 29 and recently got back into it and Chad motivated me. I'm well over weight 19.4st to be exact, use to be 13st ish. it's a lot harder but I will keep at it.
Omg that park looks like an absolute dream. It's so crazy because when I saw the thumbnail I'm like "Hey I'm 34 and trying to get back into it too!" Then when I read you had knee surgery 10 years ago I'm like wow I had knee surgery 15 years ago (2006). So awesome that you kept at it here, I know how that heat is. Just the other day I was simply practicing ollies in a parking lot to get going again and it was afternoon and like 90+ out. I could only stand it for like 20 minutes haha.
It's so refreshing to see and advanced skater like yourself struggling wiht something a little. I liked the first land much better and the vertical rotation looks a million times better than the actual FS rotation. I have 10 years on you but also I, the worst skater in the world, will give these a try! Awesome personality too man, love your videos!
Man that was great. I was working on it during the spring, but never landed it. You encourage me to never give up and even at 33 you can learn new tricks.
I like how you vocalize every attempt. I have the same thing. Just can't keep silent when working out. Btw, I'm also 33 and only learning to ollie now. Feels like a new world since I discovered skateboarding for me 3 years ago.
Hardflips are my favorite tricks, in any stances. The best advice i can give to anybody is, once you get close to the board rotation, to actually try to levitate. I mean forcing yourself to jump as high as you can, bend your knees as much as you can, and try to stay in the air as long as possible. Because the most common mistake, is to not commit enough and put you backfoot on the ground before the trick even starts to rotate (good example at 3:02). Good job on learning it Chad! Happy harflippling to everybody that's going to skate today and try it!
The RUclips algorithm brought me here. I enjoyed watching! I literally yelled out WOO!! When you landed it haha. Nice job. I started skating a few weeks ago after about a 13 year break. Skating at 15 is definitely different than 28.
First!! Edit: Yes Chad! Well done on not one but two hardflips! They were proper clean. Gonna apply the tips to try land myself - thanks for the awesome videos mate!
I'm 32 now. I tore my ACL when I was 30 in Aug 2018, had it rebuilt and recovered through the 11 month minimum at age 31 through 2019, and truly started skating again November 2019. In Cleveland, where it snows. We're talking, lemme see if an ollie hurts type stuff. Everything was new again, and additionally terrifying. Dropping-in became harrowing. My friends progressed without me. Today, I'm skating new avenues the old pre-knee me did not, and despite the anguish of seeing the young bucks make chicken feed out of the tricks it takes everything for me to commit to, I still go skate and engage in the combat with the voice in my head and the devil on my shoulder to GET TRICKS. Stop waiting for it to be easy or for it to flow; skateboarding is physical war. My knee made a full recovery btw, but the mind never forgets.
have just started skating again last week at 30 didn’t even step on a board for atleast 10 years.. my first landed kickflip felt sooo sweet hard flip soon 👌🤯
They were both great hardships Chad. 1st 1 looked pretty floaty which I liked. This has always been a mentally confusing trick for me too. Back in the day I got inward heels down pretty quick, even tho I couldn't do regular heelflips, but altho I had regular flips down & occasional fs flips I just couldn't work out hardflips
Sir Switch Crookington I went back and listened close. He said sumpin. I mean, my brain understood “something” because that’s how language works, but that’s not how he said it.
hell yeah chad! for me personally, putting my foot a little higher up, less angled, and more on the deck helps. I also think of just flicking behind me. tried for so long to get hardflips down and now i have them more consistent than regular kickflips, one of the best feeling tricks imho.
Just stumbled onto your channel. I am 34 and still getting in some fun sessions every now and again. Sometimes it feels like I am just relearning tricks... probably due to the inconsistency of said sessions. You got a new sub though!
And now, as a result of doing these all day, you'll have the muscle memory developed in a couple days to flip these faster and catch em with ease. Props and cheers~
I’m a little bit younger (27) and just learned how to hardflip about a week ago , it is so freaking cool haha feels amazing when you actually get it . The feel when you land it is a total shocker
Something that helped me land them on the first day when trying to commit to actually land them, was forming them for a week for fun and catching them with my front foot. Did this everyday for fun, didn't believe I could ever do it. Formed them perfectly every try and loved catching it mid air. It wasn't until my friends saw me forming it, "you got it already just commit" , I landed it at home after 20 mins of trying nonstop. Forming the first day of said week was really bad, but I wanted to learn how to form it and catch it for literal fun bc they look so nice. Paid off out of nowhere after a week and felt unreal
I used to think of them as kickflip shifty but at the last second rotate my body back. Helped me to see the flick. Then eventually I could keep my shoulders straight.
Appreciate these videos bro, I'm getting back into skateboarding at 37 after stepping away from about 18 years. Took a few of your suggestions in building my complete.. Almost 8.5" / Indy 149 / 1/8" Riser / 56mm wheels. How do you find the wear on your shoes when you're skating ramp, assuming you aren't trying flip tricks all day? Do they last long?
I always saw the hard flip as the 2nd example, ( the mostly vertical one) but that 1st example of a hard flip looks so so smooth! 😊 The 3rs example doesn't even look like a hard flip.. It still looks tough as hell though!
Good job! I try to do a hard flip once in a blue moon, by this I mean, I've never done one. I don't think I'll get one in this lifetime, because I'm too busy enjoying just rolling. I dig your attitude!
Bought a board as well at 31. Haven't skated since 2008. I could not believe my balance was shit at first cause i used to skate for almost 10 years. Will try as well, now the mind understands more, im sure i'll make better than back in the day :)
that nollie back tail my guy! Im 33 as well and still getting after it. If you make it to Minneapolis, MN lemme know, have a fresh 3ftx12ft mini ready to ride.
Incoming you make us old heads proud comment. I haven't tried and a hardflip since I was 26 and I'm 44 now. When you landed it,I yelled shit like I'm the one who busted that. Good for you man. I love seeing this $h*t
Love your positive vibes, even when you're at you 100th try, you're still smiling! Looked very clean to me! Hey I'm 45 so this inspires to get me out there again. Thx for the vid
best piece of advice i got was to put my back toes on the edge of the tail like how you would for a tre flip or impossible but just a little bit less. like big toe in the pocket. it helps to put more tension in the board and you barely have to flick it.
BRAVO YOUNG MAN!! I'm 39 and would kill to be 33 again! I had a knee surgery too as a teen..when the doctor says that you'll need the same surgery in ten years....they ain't fn with you... Injuries mean time off the board and when you're old, time off the board hits harder every year. I have to skate a few times a week just to not go backwards in progress. Getting old doesn't mean you have to quit having fun. Just look at all the old pros ripping🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I learned them a couple months ago at age 32! My main advice would be to put your back foot a little more on the tail (as opposed to the back end edge of it), as you would doing a fakie Ollie. Then focus on pulling your front leg in so it gives the board room to rotate
I'm 33 as well brah. we still got this! haha. I skate every single day with my 2 kids. it's one of the greatest gifts you can bestow upon your children. it keeps me young too. The only hitch is that when I beef it off a 10 stair nowadays I already know it's an automatic 3-4 month recovery lol😂. great video. keep on shredding
Hell yeah,im learning them at 41 and almost got one yesterday, only attempted maybe 20 times and just missed with backfoot.Tommorow or next session i think i got em!!!
Anyone have a good tip for hardflips??
back foot in the opposite pocket and still scoop for a hardflip. front foot out of the way, has a lot to do with back foot pop
if you can frontside flip like muska did they become easier all u gotta do is not turn, also I don't know why but i learned them switch first for some reason the body stay aligned over the board more naturally if i remember right with my front foot i control the board with my big toe
i think about opening up my shoulders when i pop the trick easy and then quickly square them back to catch the board straighter and more consistent
The more higher up you put your foot is how you make it more vertical I tend to put it in between the middle and lower part of the board and as my back foot I don’t really scoop I press in this certain spot just next to the pocket and it does the scoop for me all I need to worry about is the flick
TheTangoTony exactly my tip. If you can frontside flip like muska, you’ll have no trouble learning hardflips

Ghetto bird is sick. Ever done a similar thing but with a varial heel rather than hardflip? Think it would look cool but never seen it
@@jameswilliam9176 I guess it should be inward heel if you want that same "weird" rotation hardflip has
James William Nope varial heels are weird for me. But I have a friend who has done varial heel bs180s. They look weird but sick af
I can Nollie Bigspin but not drop in 😄

Omg exactly what I needed, back to skating at age 33 too
That’s what I needed to hear. Your on point about the 3 ways to do a hard flip. I basically feel like if it’s not vertical I don’t want it. Just cus it counts isn’t what I want I want that like... perfection.
I have the same mental block with rails and any sort of grind involving your axles after skewering myself when I was snowboarding
Dudes pretty fckn good!!You shredding homes!!I think at your level, weight, and skill- you have no problem learning that trick!!
I’m gonna go learn those at 42.
Same here turned 42 yesterday actually and Chad motivated me !
Go get it man
Yeah I'm 29 and recently got back into it and Chad motivated me. I'm well over weight 19.4st to be exact, use to be 13st ish. it's a lot harder but I will keep at it.
47 here and still learning a lot of basics.
43 here and still skating
Just realised your my age and I'm only now trying hardflips for the first time. Can't wait to land one. Thanks for the tips
Happy harflippling to everybody that's going to skate today and try it!
dude your hardflips are steezy! you inspired me to learn these man.
Awesome man! Your flip looked good too! Not too vertical, not too around the side
Bro that's what I'm gonna start getting on to also. I'm 33 aswell, haven't skated n 19 years but just started getting back in2 it
Watching your videos to learn how to axle stall at this park and then seeing that you go to this skatepark is super trippy. I had no idea
That steeper bank where you keep starting from looks fun
“Let me see sumpin “ lol
Ahahahaha
Where did you hear "sumpin"? I heard something
Sir Switch Crookington I went back and listened close. He said sumpin. I mean, my brain understood “something” because that’s how language works, but that’s not how he said it.
Sir Switch Crookington let’s all love politically correct
Is this philly?
hell yeah chad! for me personally, putting my foot a little higher up, less angled, and more on the deck helps. I also think of just flicking behind me. tried for so long to get hardflips down and now i have them more consistent than regular kickflips, one of the best feeling tricks imho.
LOVED THE "OH THATS IT "
again , see you literally everywhere
@@matchboxpageant Hahaha whats up man :)
great for you man! Im going to learn hardflips too, I turn 37 in a couple weeks. Ill get it before my bday. thanks for the stoke
Wow 33 and you're killing it! You got my respect sir
Hardflips are a dream trick for me. 33 and I'm back on the board and I'm a long way from hardflips but this was inspiring. 🙏
You give me hope my friend. Awesome video man
I’m a little bit younger (27) and just learned how to hardflip about a week ago , it is so freaking cool haha feels amazing when you actually get it .
My nigga you shred at your age. Man Im 21 and I thought I was running out of time and you just gave me so much hope
In my experience they last a really long time if you’re just skating ramp
I’m learning everything after 42, some with your help. Cheers.
Love it - I learned hard flips finally at age 34 and I’m still working on getting them clean and stylish
I will be 40 in a few days and am now going to add this to my "40 tricks at 40" list. Thanks dude!
Good stuff man! Motivating for me at 33, too!
that nollie back tail my guy!
I'm 32 and want to get back into skating. Thanks for the inspiration!
*So sick man. Stoked for you. Kids don't realize its not just harder but scarier learning tricks as you get older.*
I learned them a couple months ago at age 32! My main advice would be to put your back foot a little more on the tail (as opposed to the back end edge of it), as you would doing a fakie Ollie. Then focus on pulling your front leg in so it gives the board room to rotate
I am 42 and watching you skate at 33yrs old mentally is painful but... super cool you are looking to progress!!!!
I'm 33 as well brah. we still got this! haha. I skate every single
day with my 2 kids. it's one of the greatest gifts you can bestow upon your children. it keeps me young too.
