Probably my favorite episode yet! So cool that it’s all original, beautiful houses too. But man you should have made one on downtown lake Zurich more earlier because they knocked down like five buildings on there built around 1900
I'm so used to living in places like Bloomington, Peoria, Washington, and Pekin so a town like this looks like it doesn't even exist in Illinois. I want to go there so bad. It looks so much more nice than where I've all lived at.
My oldest brother was a Boy Scout Leader and one year in the early 70s they had a large Boy Scout event in Galena IL. with Scouts from all over the country come together. They camp out in so many places, even in a cemetery near by as I remember, they had a parade where we watch from top of a hill and other events. We did visit the us Grant home and some other historic sites, what a beautiful Historic City it was!
Really enjoyed this video, living in New England around very historic towns and city’s watching a video like this reminds me how amazing that is and how lucky I am to live where I do. Thank you for sharing this video, it was very inspiring! Can’t wait to watch more :)
The building connected to the Firehouse is actually Turner Hall, 1 of two "Turner Halls" still standing. It was used for live theater. I am currently 20 and the Galena High School still does plays there. I was in them in all of high school. It is a tradition if you perform there through high school you can write your name on the backstage walls for future generations to see.
Galena boasts a lovely, intimate town centre. The delightful architecture warms the heart. Like in most places in the US, there are so many cars. If the main streets became pedestrian zones, the town centres would become all that more enchanting, enthralling, and inviting. A Dutchman who grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, I am watching from Middelburg which has a plethora of charming streets and squares that would inspire and enthuse any urban planner, architect or historian.
My family still lives in Galena!! My dad grew up there and I grew up going there all the time! It is absolutely beautiful I will never be tired of visiting there! Great video so happy to see others appreciate what I always have.
It's probably the best tourist town in all of Illinois. My dog even loved it so much that he almost refused to leave when it was time to go home. I live about 2 hours east-southeast of Galena and I almost feel like I'm in a different state when I visit the area. I want to go zip lining at Tapley Woods next time I'm in the area.
That was soo cool! I’m from Illinois and I’ve yet to go here! If you guys happen to stop by some museums or some shops, show some footage if feasible and make your recommendations. Other than that, it’s cool!
Nice video. I live on main Street right in the center of town on the third story. My windows face main st it's the perfect spot to watch the galena parades
Great video! Very much like Eureka Springs, Arkansas including that angled corner building in the middle of two streets! It too has streets on several levels and the town dates back to 1879 when it was founded. Just found your channel, but sure hate that you're not posting recent videos! Any chance of coming back and posting more?
@ 5:14 you questioned what that was…it’s not some sort of drainage system, it’s a barricade disguised as a planter. For safety reasons, ( the incline ) they don’t want anyone driving up or down the old street.
EP:3 is another good one! You're getting better with each new episode man. I like that you research plenty, because some RUclipsrs don't. I can't think of anything now to improve on, but keep in when you're escorted out of some place, so the followers can see, hear the swearing & yelling! lol Peace...
Videos like this are bittersweet for me as I can only wonder what Tulsa was like before it was burned down… as well as the countless other “minority” communities. I live in Naperville and I can’t stand the stares I receive there so I can only imagine what it’s like up there. This video will be my only visit unfortunately. Nice.
I wish Belleville had kept more of its historic parts of Main, but the preservation didn't start until after the courthouse was demolished and replaced with a newer structure in the 70's. From 1814 to 1972 is a long time to build and lose old buildings! Thankfully, we've still got a few blocks left, but I imagine at one time it looked like this since a few blocks here do look like this.
Love the video!, we visit galena at least twice a year and its our favorite place. I also have a drone and wanted to capture mainstreet like you did. Did you have to get permission to do that or did you just do quick shots when you could? Did you have any issues with people complaining? Thanks again for a great snapshot of galena!
Does this town have a floodgate you drive thru when entering ? I think I've been here! Cool video! My only suggestion is maybe a little more planning so you don't get thrown off a property again for example. 😎
It sure does! I was there 2 years ago when the floodgate was in use and it saved a LOT of buildings from flooding. And yeah, silly mistake on our part haha
There is an abandoned hospital in Laredo, Texas called the Mercy Hospital. I’d be cool if you checked it out! I was born there in 1997, but it was closed down early 2000s. Our city always wonders what’s in there. But no one can go in. 😱
Galena Illinois has very beautiful downtown with some neat history with alittle bit of some Wisconsin feel and some Wisconsin charm to it as well. Its basically St.Charles Missouri on Steroids.
You guys pick a great IL town next time climb the steps. The most from street to street. Like the vid very much went there back in the '70 in high school.
One of the most beautiful city in Illinois amazing place Great people of Illinois ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wow! This town is historic preservation site! Truly gem! Wonderful! I will visit here after my graduation! I love USA 🇺🇸 from 🇮🇳 !
Nice to see young people appreciating our great American history. I look forward to more of your episodes!

My husband and I live in upstate New York, but I am from Iowa...and we have decided to retire in Galena in about 15 years! So excited for the future.
It's great getting to see a little piece of history that's being preserved.
Great coverage of this historic era. I really enjoyed this! Thank you!
Thank you, Cindy :)
Thank you so much for taking us on a tour of this charming town. I really enjoyed the historic commentary as well!
Thank you for watching, Kathy. Plenty more historic little towns to come :)

During covid, they did have the main strip closed off for vehicular traffic. I wonder if they still do that 3 years later?
My old haunt as a kid Galena Il & Mississippi palisades , thanks guy for the awesome view.

Thank you for the support! Glad you enjoyed the video. It's such a beautiful little town

My town! Absolutely wonderful!

Great video! We just visited there last weekend! They have really good food there!

Love going here with my family, last time we went was when the Halloween fest was happening👏🏼

You guys should explore Glasgow Kentucky. That’s where my family is from. It’s really cool. There’s lots of history in the buildings.
I'll check it out!

Why would people stare at you in Naperville? Do you have a deformity of some kind?
nice job. really captured this amazing place like no one has been able to. sick channel. love it.

one of your best videos
I lived here for2 years in 1991- 1993 wish I could've stayed.
I live downtown :] i love it here, i live near the courthouse
Awesome brother.
Great video
The DeSoto looks like it may have been outside in the middle, like a courtyard. Then they added the roof later.
Good observation. I agree.
Nice but I have to say you missed a lot and a lot and a lot of GREAT stuff... I am hoping for a part 2
Cool vid my man
Thanks my guy
You missed so much......
Galena is my hometown.✌
I liked the general view but actually you only visited one shop. I wonder about the many amenities such as types of stores
Never been there. Looks cool
Would have been nice if you had found a Galena local to have helped you with your work. So much color that you missed.
little tokyo is my favorite sushi place!

@@lordexplores I was there one time back in 2002, yet, as soon as I saw the opening shot I recognized it. Maybe I'll make it back there one day.......

YESSSS SO COOL
DeSoto house is amazing! We have a DeSoto street here in the San Fernando Valley, I wonder if it’s been named after it...? Or the same family...?
It was named after Hernando de Soto, the man who discovered the Mississippi River. Could be the same namesake
What kind of drone did you use for filming?!
Field of Dreams led me here!!
I put all the windows in that huge white mansion with big pillars
RIP premiere!

We climb them every time! Parking up on the hills is more forgiving and you get a good little workout in :P
@@lordexplores way to go.😎
My home
Galena Gang
I'm from the Chicago suburbs does this town have a European feel to it ? Plan on going there soon
No. It has a feel of old, historic America! This town is absolutely fantastic in every way.
👍👍👍👍👍
