    Makes sense trichomes don’t just pop up after 2 days of darkness when it takes all flowering for it to be fully developed.

    I use "Avocado Tech" in my worm bins to boost the worm and beneficial insect populations. I've noticed the rove beetles really enjoying hanging out in there. I don't scoop out the Avocado and fill it with anything, I personally just cut them in half and let the worms get after it. I know Blu takes credit for the tech and as far as blending and then adding amendments into the pit I do think that could be his but worm farmers have used avocado and melons and pumpkins, etc.. for years because the worms love them and will reproduce rapidly under the shells/skins. We have a local worm farm here that has been doing this for years. 🤙

    Finally someone with some credibility talking about putting plants in 48 hours of darkness at the end. I would 1000% percent agree. Such a waste of time. And I have NEVER seen my plant get MORE frosty lol. But you see tons of videos of people doing it and claiming that they can see WAY more trichomes after 48 hours of dark. I have always questioned those peoples vision lol. And if they have glasses there prescription needs some adjusting lol. Good tips bro ✌️✌️✌️

  • @BigHeadBourbon
    @BigHeadBourbon 2 года назад +6

    I do use 'AVOCADO TECH' but I don't use the avocado tech on the soil surface in my actual growing containers. I think adding/top dressing dry amendments, fan leaves/stems from defoliations, and compost for the soil food web and worms to cycle, is better when scattered across the entire soil surface of the pot or bed and let the worms roam the full surface of the soil spreading microbes and nutrients everywhere as they go, to be watered in which will be more even distribution of microbes and nutrients during your normal waterings vs pockets of high amounts of castings under the pods. I could see using an avocado pod to encourage mating and multiplying of the worm population in the soil container but I think that's better done in the worm bin and then just add more worms from the bin to the growing containers.
    For my worm bin I do use avocado tech, but I don't use just avocado and dry amendments in the filling of my pods. I actually eat the avocados (unless they are spoiled of course) and just keep the half shells and fill them with blended fruits, vegetables, coffee grounds, egg shells, etc and also small amounts of some dry amendments, biochar, etc. whatever waste I would add to the worm bin anyway just gets blended together and then fills the empty avocado shells. These small spaces packed full of super yummy nutritious worm goodies really makes them 'rage' (feed and mate) and they seem to devour the same quantity of food in the pods a little faster than if it's just spread out on top of the worm bedding without a pod to contain most of the action. You can use other items to fill than avocado shells, such as coconut shells, pumpkin or squash type veggies cut in half, also will make a great functional pod to fill. I think there is some benefit to using some avocado in the blended pod filling but honestly unless they are spoiled avocados you would be tossing out, simply filling the empty shell halves with the waste veggie and fruit scraps that would be fed to the worm bin anyway, is a better variety of nutrients for the finished castings and also healthier and happier for the worms.

    What’s up Jeremy! Buildasoil has got me super stoked on living soil and because of this channel I’ve started my living soil journey. I love the earth boxes and have seen the success they can bring when done right not only through your videos but also through my dad growing a 3rd year jalapeño in one. It’s a massive bush and he gets pounds of jalapeños per harvest and harvests many times a season but along the lines of the earth box I wanted to see if you knew anything about a company called autopot and if so talk about if living soil would work in an autopot system. Thanks again for all the educational content and you’ve earned a life long customer out of it.

    About to harvest a grow using take and bake kit, build a flower, gnarly barley and watered with coconut, saponaria, rootwise and super carb (blue eden) through out the whole grow and my daughter said my room smells like Carmel cupcake 😂. Terps have never been this noticeable. I Appreciate you and your company! What do you think about sugars towards the end of flower? When would you suggest to stop using them? Do they bring out more terps or is it just a myth?

      Tbh the best analogy in my experience is that a lemonade don’t slap in the summer unless the fresh squeezed lemon & sugar was brewed in a lotta ice like a marinade. Lemonade was so good was always gone before the ice in the glass melted! Long story short when I ice flush my candy Kush in late flower with 2 tsp of raw brown sugar per 1/2 gal as an additive I always leave it like those empty glasses of lemonade full of ice left behind. Essentially keeping the plants how plenty ppl like myself feel every summer when there’s a thirst to be quenched. Coming back for more!

      Using sugars toward the end of flower is helpful so long as it is a simple sugar. Don't expect something like molasses to be a good option. Molasses is great throughout the late stages of veg and the early to mid stages of flower but after that I recommend going to something like nectar for the gods Herculean harvest in combination with Aphrodite's extraction as a last week's leaching feed before a final week of water only. The other reason to use sugars toward the end is for your microbes. Your plant excretes sugars as a way of attracting the microbes to the roots and of course at the end of its life it wants to hang on to those sugars. So you will be providing the sugars to keep them munching and going till the end. But only a simple sugar like Aphrodite's extraction will be able to be taken up by the plant as well right away.

    For the most part I feel that when the trichomes cloudy the plant is done. Having a few amber is alright and most likely a good indication to harvest. I harvest at the first sign of ambering. Remember amber is a sign of breakdown not peak potency, so if you are waiting on amber you are effectively lowering your plants potency. If you want to stress it in a beneficial way, stick to super cropping and stalk twisting but never past the 3-4th week of flowering. You will benefit greatly from this. But stressing any later wont really help the plant. It needs ample time to respond and a couple days or even a couple weeks wont do much. Plus you run the risk of it herming that late.

  • @showmebudz1339
    @showmebudz1339 2 года назад +2

    I definitely don’t see value in darkness before harvest and surely don’t see value in stressing my plants out. I want them happy and healthy all the way until harvest so they can put their max effort into doing what they already know what has to be done. I feel like the people that believe in these myths have no way to quantify that last round was more resinous then the one before especially if you are running different genetics each round.

    I believe the 48 hrs of darkness is also because some of the more volatile terpenes evaporate in the light and you loose those terpenes under the light and the terpenes actually peak at night and drop during the day….Swami Chaitanya does a pretty good explanation of why to harvest outdoor in the AM and why leaving it in darkness for some time could help with flavor

    • @budstermcgreen6360
      @budstermcgreen6360 2 года назад +1

      I've seen him speak on it and he is convincing! I've always understood it to be about terpenes rather than actual trichrome growth. However I've tried it a couple of times on genetics that I've ran multiple times and didn't notice anything beneficial from it. I now just harvest after a normal 12 hour dark cycle..or not let the lights come on the day I'm going to harvest and chop em whenever I get to it that day. So they may see 15 hours of darkness. I've always noticed right before the lights come on they smell the strongest. ✌️

    • @imissyou6365
      @imissyou6365 2 года назад

      Just lower the brightness on the light it’ll give a lower par for the flower and put out less heat which would be eliminate that theory. And like Jeremy spoke about their is no 48 hour of darkness in nature.

    About the couple days of darkness before harvest, trichomes are damaged by light to some extent then repair themselves during the dark period, this makes me think that maybe that two day dark period allows the trichomes to show their current full potential, the example that made me think this way was that for outdoor harvests you want to do it in the morning before light hits the plants

I love to watch your videos and realize that I’m already thinking the correct way in cultivation. 2:30

    I have a PHD in Microbiology. I hope this helps clarify a few things. With regards to stressing the plants at the end of flower, it's very simple. Would it happen in nature? These plants have been around for hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of years. They are perfectly adapted on their own. Let them do what they need to do, and just help the plant when it 'needs it'. They will let you know. Stressing the plant at the end of flower is completely unnecessary with no rewards. We did many an experiment during university testing this very subject with fruit bearing trees. There is no evidence that stressing does anything other than harm during flower.

    Loving the content you're putting out. This was the series that finally allowed me to push to full notill, you are a very good teacher.
    My question: I just discovered I have red spidermites. This is the first time I've ever seen them. Most were on my cover crop which I removed and disposed of properly. I've only seen a couple on my plant, but I can't help thinking it's about to get really bad. So the plant is in week 10 of flower and still has a couple weeks left. It's growing in a 15 gallon grassroots living soil pot in 3.0. I'm thinking of letting it ride until harvest, then deep cleaning my tent with bleach and not planting any more cover crop for at least 2 weeks, as I've read the spider mites can go 3 to 11 days without a plant before dying. Also giving my top mulch layer a daily spritz with neem oil and Dr. Zymes. Would that rid me of them? And is there anything else you think I should do? Should I just cut my losses and harvest now before it could get out of hand? I should add that I've been growing in this tent for 5 years now and never even seen a spider mite before, so I'm not sure how I got them in the first place. The only thing that's changed is the container and soil, and since both of those came from buildasoil I doubt they would have come from there.

    Hi Jeremey, mainly just saying Hi, like you asked, Ha! I started my first grow around the same time you started season 1, so it's been fun to go along at the same pace, but I am nowhere near a LOS, but look forward to when I can start; had to focus funds on lights, tents, fans and such. Starting off, I had a buddy helping me that had experience growing at a commercial grow, but I supplemented that info by watching the 10x10 season 1. I even got my buddy to check out the series, but we both got really into your channel once we heard two words: "DISC GOLF!" That got you a few subscriptions! We've got a shop here called "Grow 'n' Throw" and they've had the 10x10 series playing a few times that I've stopped in to get discs and grow supplies. Not at all grow related, but some disc golf content would be awesome! So the question: What DG course do you call home?

  • @user-ft2ie4jv5t
    @user-ft2ie4jv5t Год назад

    Good stuff as always. And I am no expert but, in my opinion, many of the myths are mostly just fun to try at best and/or another knob to fiddle with. Which, especially at first, you have too many of already and are best left off the already long list of variables. Your commonsense approach resonates, and I find myself returning to rewatch specific content on topics that I want to revisit. Much like my dog-eared copy of Jorge Cervantes's Guidebook that served me so well when I began this journey, your feedback stands the test of time. Which is very unlike most content I find elsewhere online. Much appreciated. Please keep it up if you can. And thank you for the extra effort.

    First off, BIG LOVE to the whole BAS team- I just harvested my first crop- 4 plants in 2 earthboxes and without all of the help from the BAS team I don't think I could have done it.
    I am customer and fan for life!
    Questions:
    1. What is the maximum number of plants I can put in an Earthbox- assuming a veg time of a week or 2 at most?
    2. Is the Earthbox the gateway drug for a bigger container!? As a new grower, I appreciate the simplicity of the Earthbox- especially watering. That said, I came to this way of growing because I love the idea of not throwing out soil as well as...building the soil! My plan is to do a few more runs with my 2 Earthboxes and then switch to a bigger container. Here is my situation- I have a 4 by 4 Gorilla tent and a 3 by 3 (just using for curing). While my wife is supportive of my grow, she is also sensitive to how much time I put into it. I am growing just for myself so it's not like I need huge amounts. Given that, what size container would be best? It seems like the 3 by 3 is rocking it- I am just wondering if it's a little too big. That said, my priority is to really develop the soil over time.
    Thanks again and much love,
    Ethan

    I’ve put a few halved avapcados straight in! And the worms love it within a week Or 2 it’s packed with worms multiplying! 😅 it’s really cool

    Jeremy, thank you for someone who is old enough to be your father and an organic gardener for 40+ year. Thank you for teaching me to move forward into no-till, for both food and medicine. My question is related to "autos". I grow outdoors, in container, and in FL. The growing season could result in "photos" reaching 10-15 foot or more. I cannot have that right now. I wanted to plant 1-2 "autos" every 3-4 weeks to have a continued harvest, such as succession planting in the vegetable world. My only concern at the present time would be drying, but would love your input into this use of "autos). Keep up the good work.

      Drying is the most difficult. Unless you have complete control of temps and humidity & I mean 💯% complete control. I’m struggling with 87% humidity as I type this.

    Split stalks at the main node 10-14 days prior to harvest creates mucho trichomes. Found out the hard way by accidentally splitting them doing LST. At first I was so mad at myself, but when the flower chubbed up and matured that particular skunk plant went crazy with frost over all the others. Split the stems and strip the leaves 3-4 dayz prior to harvest. Def results every time.

    Hey Jeremy. I love the videos. Thanks for all the knowledge. I’m newer to growing and recently made a Black Friday purchase from build a soil. I can’t wait to start using your products. I don’t know much about the avocado tech but from what Ive learned everything that u said is spot on. A couple things that I have heard is that when all the worms come up to the avocados you could take that avocado out of one bed or worm bin and place it into another to start adding worms to a new bed or bin. Also I’ve heard that it promotes the worm reproduction so it is a good way to increase your worm population if that is something that you are trying to do. I’ve been following along since season 1 and I can’t wait for every video that you drop. Thanks again for all the knowledge

    Avocado tech came from composting avacados and people realizing that it is a fatty organic matter that's easy to break down for worms,this has been good for worm farms and compost piles for decades. Just an easy good food for the worms to eat and break down .

    I’m going to miss these daily videos. I have a question about grounding. I’m building a 3x6 grassroots living soil bed with your 3.0.
    I being an outside grower can’t help but see we are missing that earth ground connection with indoor beds. Do you think using a copper grounding electrode at the bottom running horizontally out the end and then connected to an earth ground nearby would work? Would the copper electrode negatively affect the soil or plant health?
    I’m a firm believer in grounding/earthing as it’s helped me and can only imagine creating a source for those electrons to freely flow from plant to Mother Earth would benefit the plant. Or maybe I’m just too hippy and thinking too far into it. Let me know what y’all think.
    Thanks Jeremy and the BAS team for all the hard work y’all do.

      I have theorized about doing that (or something similar but have not tried it yet). My thought is that it would aid in cat-ions. The idea came to me when watching Leighton Morrison talk about the horizonal system.

      @@johnwilson5465 it is electrical, it clicked for me when Leighton Morrison said An-Ion.....everyone only talks about Cat-Ions. To most people it sounds like jibberish but I have dabbled in electronics my whole life. Cat-hode and An-node are the 2 ends of a vacuum tube, the cathode is the negative side and the anode is the positive side. A stream of electrons flows from the cathode to the anode.

    Hy Jeremy 👍your videos are awesome and the build a soil way(living soil) work awesome for your crop👍 i think about the 48 h period that u were right it will not produce fully developed thricomes but i saw a video of some studies made and it is good to cut the plant early in the morning before that the plants will wake up , that way u get the full flavour and potency because the plant replenish her battery with light in day time and will consume this energy to develop in the night time and the plants are able to calculate their energy in function of the season u are and the light they are exposed such way that in the morning they have 1 %power (energy) left when they know that they will start a new day and start to replenish their batteries . Thats why in the morning i think u can get the full potency because they put everything in night time to develop. If u think I’m wrong i can share with u some videos about the studies. Keep on going , u are awesome 👏

    Hey brother! Couldn’t have been where I am in my grow journey without these videos! Thank you so much 🙏 keep crushing it. Curious on your opinion on Steve Cantwell’s “Bottomless Pot tek” where he cuts out the bottom of his one gallons before planting a clone/seed into it and when it’s at the proper size, simply placing it on top of the soil bed/pot as opposed to digging in, minimizing labor, transplant shock and disturbance in the soil. Also seems to be beneficial being able to have an extra gallon of soil on top of your pot if you’re running smaller pots (below 30gal). Sorry for the long question, just curious on your thoughts! Thanks again!

    I would honestly love to see those myths of puncturing the stalk and 2 days of darkness before harvest be tested in a scientific way. I really think Jeremy's right, but as the fellow Community Cannabis Experimenter, Jeremy should do a side-by-side comparison with clones, same soil, same everything and test these things we STILL argue over after all these years. Please Jeremy, end these silly debates. Thanks BAS, you're doing God's work 🤙

    Love your plants!...lol. I agree. Not in an earthbox but try my best to keep the soil life active in my bags. When I transplant I dust the hole with bone meal. I'm thinking of adding kelp meal. Pros and cons? Also would you suggest any other light ammendments at transplant? Fyi using an organic potting mix with peat moss, and down to earth 4-8-4, and worm castings. Water with tea every two weeks until week 5 of flower. Go into ocean forest for flower, but looking to change up when the space is available.

    I love watching your videos. I found them during my first grow and bought your take n bake kit for my second grow. Just recently, I brought in some compost that I've been working on for 2+ years from outside to top dress. Now my grow tent is infested with fungus gnats. I recently added beneficial nematodes and used a fogger to kill the adults. If the fogger bad for the plants (I assume it's not organic) and what's the best way to get rid of them in the future?

    Question here! I have well water, and was going to get it tested to see what is in it. I was overwhelmed with the options of what to test for. What are the most important things I should test for when using the well water as irrigation water for my plants. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE! Happy growing :)

    Hello Jeremy,
    I cannot thank you enough for the invaluable knowledge you bestow on us all. You've inspired me to get my indoor grow going again and try living soil with cannabis for the first time. I've used no-till techniques in my outdoor veggie garden for a couple decades, but was taught to grow cannabis with bottled nutrients and had been to scared to try something different until discovering this channel.
    I built a homade 3x3 bed and am filling with recycled OG soil I inherited from an unused greenhouse. I'll be amending and feeding with a huge pile of BAS products(thanks to your black Friday sale!)
    I plan to pop seeds made by a friend, and am shooting for 9 keepers.
    My question is... how long can I veg in the solo cups? Or more specifically, will I need to transplant to a 1 gal pot until sex shows, so I can guarantee I have 9 females to go in the bed? Or would you recommend starting in 1 gal pots to give them more soil to feed on before sex shows without having to transplant twice?
    I am truly grateful for all you and the BAS crew do.
    Cheers

    The only real control you have in that last week of bloom is maybe getting the terpenes to intensify. UVB/A is supposed to be good for that.
