Every condo complex has different overheads. The amount of net profit you make depends greatly on how much you personally use the unit or how good the management is. But NET income in San Pedro can average from 3-5% at a maximum.
If you they don't net that then it should be consider more of a lifestyle purchase. There are various complexes that I would consider as lifestyle purchases rather than income generators per say.
I have clients who have bought with the intent to retire on the unit and now don't want to use the condo because it is generating good money. It's important that you use an agent who can tell you those things about a specific management or condo complex. And doesn't just sell you dreams.

HOA's are a nightmare to deal with. Id never purchase in an HOA community...no matter how nice the property is.
