With the Sven Hedin, Westfalia presented its first expansion of the MAN TGE to the general public at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf. The model from Gotha impressed with numerous innovations, some of them so unique in their design that they were registered for patent. This is one of the reasons why the "inventors of the motorhome" refer to the new Sven Hedin as a vehicle for innovation.
The name Sven Hedin is no stranger to the industry. Because as early as the 1970s, Westfalia built a high-quality panel van under this name on the LT28.
If you follow Westfalia's motto of offering all customers in the various segments of panel van conversions an adequate product, you cannot avoid placing this model very high in the Westfalia product family.
This is also due to the basic vehicle from MAN, the TGE. Numerous assistance systems, which were previously largely unknown in the van world, are built into this new premium product or optionally available. The new optional eight-speed automatic as well as the innovative and ergonomically optimized cockpit are further arguments that make this basic vehicle so unique.
Only if Westfalia would not be Westfalia had it not been thought of where one could improve this model with a panel van conversion. Due to the rather narrow structure of the vehicle, an innovative, yet practical and camper-friendly layout is required without sticking side attachments to the rear of the motorhome. This would permanently reduce the aerodynamics and disrupt the visual vehicle line. That was out of the question for the developers at Westfalia. So how do you install a rear transverse bed and still achieve a lying length of two meters? The answer is pop-out. If necessary, an insulated GRP part is moved to the outside, making a bed length of around two meters. If the bed is no longer needed, the Pop Out retracts again and nothing can be seen on the mobile from the outside. Innovative and, as already mentioned, patent pending.
But this highlight is not the only thing that makes the Sven Hedin unique. The Westfalia developers have also completely revised all elements of the living and kitchen area. They found out that the depth of the kitchen block is mainly due to the installation depth of the compressor refrigerator. If this were not installed across, but parallel, the kitchen block would be narrower, which can significantly increase the feeling of space. And since such a refrigerator was not available on the market, it was simply developed together with a large European accessory manufacturer. The result - 70 liters of cooling capacity and a spatial impression in the living room that is second to none.
Westfalia relies on diesel-powered hot water heating for the heating system. This not only increases the vehicle's suitability for winter, it also reduces the fuel mix. The Sven Hedin only needs gas for cooking, and a 2.5 kg bottle is sufficient. Also noteworthy for a van are the water and waste water tanks, with 100 liters (84 liters of waste water), even after a long shower in the closed bathroom of the Sven Hedin, you are literally not left dry. The fact that the Westfalia developers are practical can be seen when you look at the rear storage space of the Sven Hedin. Under the rear double bed already described above, there is even space for a mountain bike with only the front wheel removed. Size and flexibility are the trump cards of the Sven Hedin, and that also applies to the storage space, which of course has a through-loading option. From surfboards in summer to skis in winter - everything finds its tidy place here.

Deine Videos sind SUPER, habe schon Bimobil, HRZ, MAN, Kabe...angeschaut, einfach 👍. Pflichtkanal für alle die sich ein Wohnmobil kaufen wollen.
Weniger super ist VW baut in Deutschland Arbeitsplätze ab und baut dafür eine Fabrik in Polen. Die Bundesregierung hat es also tatsächlich geschafft DEN deutschen Traditionsbetrieb zu vertreiben. Sorry, gehört nicht hierher, aber das musste mal gesagt werden.
Kurze Info... DSG ist nicht ganz richtig... Es hätte Wandlerautomatik heißen müssen.
Ich glaube aber eher, daß es sich um einen „Auszug“ handelt.

Der MAN TGE ist ein tolles Fahrzeug, der Westfalia Ausbau mit dem Mini Slide-Out ist für mich die schönste Lösung der Bettverbreiterungen. Das mit dem MAN zu VW Service ist so eine Sache. Ich fand den Wechsel zu MAN LKW bei Westfalia sehr schade. VW hat über 950 Service Händler in Deutschland, bei MAN liegt dieser bei max. 350 Händlern und nicht alle sind Service Stationen. Bei mir im Ballungsgebiet kann ich zu 3 VW Service Stützpunkten hinlaufen, den ersten hätte ich nach 1,7 Km erreicht, zu MAN muss ich schon 20 Min Auto fahren. Mein VW Händler nimmt keine Garantie Service Leistungen von MAN an, obwohl es doch ein Konzern ist ?. Sei´s drum, der Sven Hedin ist ein toller Camper-Van, der sich in die hochpreisige Camper Van Baureihe gut einordnet.
Wenn es den mit Aufstelldach gäbe. Dann wärs perfekt auch für Familien mit Kinder.

Heiner Schmitz Reimo hatte es eine Zeit lang im Sortiment aber aktuell nicht verfügbar. Es gibt einen Produzenten (Name mir unbekannt) der das für MAN macht. Sprich wenn du als Firma zu MAN gehst und einen neuen TGE konfigurierst kannst du dir gleich optional das Aufstelldach bestellen und der wird dann gleich damit ausgeliefert. MAN ist ja grundsätzlich nur für Firmenkunden und nur über Umwege für Privatpersonen. Liebe Grüße

Ps ist entscheidend nicht Drehmoment! Ich weiß nicht woher dieser Mythos stammt, aber informiert euch bitte mal bei einem Maschinenbauingenieur. Mein ebike hat 0,25kw und 80Nm Drehmoment, mein Motorrad hat 90 kw und 60Nm. Jetzt darf jeder mal Raten, mit welchem Fahrzeug ich 250 kmh auf der Autobahn fahren kann... Hört bitte auf immer zu behaupten, dass das Drehmoment entscheidend ist...
