    Every time I watch one of these videos, the sheer power of that red Telecaster amazes me. That thing is a beast. Great show, guys, and some thundering tones from that Analog Drive pedal.

    Great show as usual! Thanks guys. I can't wait for the attenuators comparison episode! Also I would love to see an episode about Microphone positioning on guitar amps and Open Back and Closed Back cabs and also in general the room acoustics.
    ---
    This will help many I'm sure. Microphones positioning can be a very subjective topic but there are some rules based on the type of microphones and speakers being used and because your shows have some of the best sounds, it can shed the needed lights for many people out there who are not sure how to do it properly. Thanks again!

    This pedal and an Eventide H9 Max would be an awesome combo

    • @Andreorsel

      I have this combi now and it is awesom.
      My compact pedal board:
      Polytune mini, AMT SS11 B preamp, Elektron analog drive, H9 Max, TC Hall of fame reverb, EHX Magnum 44 poweramp.
      Boss ES 5 pedal switcher. Only the analog drive is in the looper though. The midi on de Boss ES is the most important function i use to control the Elektron and the H9.

    Funny enough, I've consistently bought less pedals since watching TPS. I'm actually selling most of mine and going down to only 4 or 5 pedals. I guess it has a lot to do with asking better questions.
    Great episode guys! This pedal seems like a perfect fit for dudes running the Strymon Stryfecta rig (Mobius, Timeline, Bigsky) that want to get a lot out of only a few boxes. Paired with a G2, there isn't a whole lot you couldn't do with a rig like that...

      Definitely a rig to rule the world with.
      Yeah guys, my rig is largely based off of stuff you feature on the show, too. Xotic wah. Cali 76 Compact, Chicago Iron Octavian Plus, King of Tone, and ARDX20. 4/5 have been regular appearances on the show. That board into a Carr Rambler (lush verb and trem in there) and happy days. Next up is a proper tape delay, a re-housed Hammond vibrato in a box, and a Vibratone to complete the rig.

      3 Source Audios (Gemini, Nemesis, Vertigo), a comp, regular Fuzz and/or Big Muff (split the difference and get a RAT or Vick V-2), a Treble Booster and my beloved Line6 M5, MIDI loop switcher - done.
      Probably want to keep one legit analog delay (Nemesis isn't so hot n the analog delay algorithms) and one favourite OD on there as well (Selah Scarlett Love would be a good one as it's a 3-in-1) and - done.

    So as luke warm as I felt about the Riverside, I getting MAJOR GAS for this.
    This feels like everything the Riverside promised to be and a ton more. And the fact that you can preset a load of different gain structures and trigger the changes through midi... amazing.
    And it sounds just amazing... I don't think there was a bad sound in the box. Would have been interesting to hear it through a Marshall-Style amp, but wow!!!
    Now I've got to work out what I can sell to get this on my board...

    You guys should really, REALLY start opening pedals up !!!
    Also, I've been wanting to suggest this.I recently got into diy pedal making, and I've stepped into a whole now dimension!!!!!(and money sinkhole).The community is HUGE btw.So, maybe a cool topic for a show would be DIY pedals, mods, and yes the "gray" area of clones :P I understand its a sensitive subject, but after messing with it for a few months I'd advise ANY guitar player to start diy'ing.I now understand a lot more of the stuff you guys chat about (low hfe germanium Q1,silicon Q2 fuzz face, I'd think you were talking Klingon if i heard that a few months ago :D)

    • @ThatPedalShow
      @ThatPedalShow  8 лет назад +6

      +Webgkil Thanks for the suggestion. It's a massive, deep subject. It's not something that interests me particularly (Mick here) as I get precious little time to play as it is. Spending time building (and thinking about building and talking about building) would eat into that too much. Making videos for RUclips has nearly killed it entirely already! ;0) Dan may have more interest in that world. Thanks for watching!

      If you mean DIY pedal building, there's enough online about it already - we couldn't add anything to the immensely detailed info already out there.
      If you mean clones and all that, it's really simple for us. There are artisans and there are corporations and sometimes the two are the same thing. After that it's just down to how creative you are, how letigious you are and how deep your pockets are. We all care about it in different ways. Dan and I tend to like things built by credible humans who are dedicated to their craft. They tend to be expensive as a result! But all the moral arguments - totally pointless as we all have different morals. Cheers!

    Yep. The Elektron is what the Riverside should be. I still can't put my finger on what but there's "something missing" when the Riverside kicks in. We're talking the difference between hair and fur but its there. Then again, just that little tube screamer on it's own would be enough to keep you entertained for hours. Great show as always. Cheers guys.

    SMT (surface mount technology) for guitar pedals is getting really impressive now.
    I used to turn my nose to any pedal that didn't use full size components because I like to modify them myself, and also thought SMT components couldn't bring the tonez like bigger caps and resistors. But things are changing!

    It's a weird one about the Riverside. On a lot of the RUclips videos it can sound a bit fizzy (not here though), and in real life it sounds awesome. I've got one and it kicked off a Earthquaker Palisades of my board. Wonder if it's best just going into a totally clean amp? I'd agree though, they're totally prepping for a 'big box' version.

    For most of this video I was thinking this is fun, but this is a product I would never buy. But for the price, to have every flavor of overdrive I'd want, it really isn't a bad deal at all. It appears to be $359 in the U.S. That's the cost of what- three good priced pedals, two higher end boutiquish pedals? The ability to stack them into each other would seal the deal, but even without, so you have one clean boost in front of all of them. No big deal. Fun video, as always.

    fantastic matching of tones to the other pedals. I started to feel a bit of ear fatigue with the higher gain tones but they would sound great in a mix. Have you guys ever thought of having a backing track element to your videos? I know it would be an extra effort and expense, but I often find guitar tones on their own to be a bit ugly (unless drenched in ambient effects) and dont demonstrate the tones in the context that most people will hear them. ray dowley Analog Drive all day, I work in a shop that sells Strymon and unfortunately I found that as good as the Riverside sounds it just doesn't quite feel right, and the other downside is it tends not to stack well with regular analog pedals.

      Hi benjamin thanks for the input. but maybe i should step back a little,I'am only a bedroom player do I really need 8 peds plus. my big fear is I find the ped setting I like. then have all the rest sitting there,and me feeling gulity at not using them. or sit there best part of the nght twiddling knobs and not playing as much as I should. by the way my sound is bloos rock. cheers ray

    Still undecided about this one, for the price you could bag 2/3 beautiful little gain boxes (seriously the amount you guys go through im never sure which way to go, so many, im only really after a light/mid breakup/ overdrive and a muff). This'll should be the be all and end all of all overdrive flavours, but Im not sure if the fuzz circuit could compare with a dedicated muff? And that form factor and funny power supply requirements bugg me...
    Anyway loving the show as always guys, keep coming back here as you two do IMO the best job of balancing the technical knowhow/great tones/likeable personalities and attitude into little weekly doses of guitar goodness!

    Everyone talks about the mid-hump push of tube screamers, but when you put on that mini version, it occurred to me that it's also acting kind of like a compression pedal - is that my imagination?

    • @ThatPedalShow
      @ThatPedalShow  8 лет назад

      +VoxPathfinder15R Yeah definitely. The gain is pretty compressed. It's one of the key ways in which a TS type pedal is so different from a Klon style one. With the gain very low and the master very high, much less compression. Cheers!

    Because Dan has made no secret of his great love for Analogman's King of Tone, I have a question for him. If you could only have one overdrive pedal on your board and had to choose between the King of Tone and Elektron's Analog Drive, which would you choose and why? In other words, would this new pedal from Elektron have been on your desert island pedal board if it had been available at the time? Why or why not?

  • @billphillipstube
    @billphillipstube 8 лет назад

    One thing that is hard to gauge is exactly how loud it is in the room. Every once in a while, I'll hear some voice bleed through on an amp mic (usually Dan shouting yeah! while Mick is playing) and from that it seems that your room volume is very loud.

    • @ThatPedalShow
      @ThatPedalShow  8 лет назад

      +billphillipstube It's quite loud. Remember that the dynamic mics are very close to the amps, and the room mic is about seven feet away - that's what's picking up Dan's voice. We fade the vocal mic up and down when we talk - that would be totally overloaded by the amps.
      If you watch our bedroom and home tones video where we kept the volume to around 80dB measured at the board... for most videos we're touching anything between 90 and 105 ish. Quite loud, loud enough for some gigs, but not really loud,

    Nice 2017, 2nd Episode. Like the Expression pedal option on the new pedal. Everytime the TS and Lovepedal sounded great and yes the Elektron sounds close to the others. Please do another Plexi Episode,(maybe the higher gain Plexi pedals) include that Lovepedal Purple Plexi and others.
    That Tele and LP they deserve an Episode for themselves.
    Dan which Pickups are on that Gibby? Any help on pickup´s height and TOne Knob settings are welcome.

    Form factor alone puts this in a different category than the Riverside, for your average hobbyist the Elektron is enormous. I'll be going with the Riverside, but the Elektron is a great sounding pedal. Whatever ones preference we can all be happy that 2017 will be an exciting year of releases for stomp boxes.

    • @bentrisshaw
      @bentrisshaw 8 лет назад

      Simon Keast deciding factor for me was that the Riverside doesn't stack well, I've had the Analog Drive for a month now and I'm thoroughly happy.

    • @justcantshred

      Benjamin Shaw Glad to hear you are enjoying the Elektron, do you find its size to be an issue on your board or just using it in practice? I received my Riverside last night and while I haven't put it through all its paces, I'm really enjoying it.

    • @bentrisshaw
      @bentrisshaw 8 лет назад

      Simon Keast I think this vid makes it look bigger than it is but it is quite large, I had to kick my expression pedal off to get it on.

    I remember having the same conversation about digital cameras a decade ago... "oh pics look bad, it is nothing like 35mm" .... now digicams are the norm.... I will keep my tube amp (just like I keep my Nikon FM2) but these will become the norm...

    • @ThatPedalShow
      @ThatPedalShow  8 лет назад +4

      +JAFO-PTY Interesting juxtaposition. Mick here. I was in magazines (and photography) all the way through the film to digital transition. And my wife has been involved with commercial and editorial photography for most of her career. It wasn't quality that killed film, it was price, practicality and turnaround time. There was a massive commercial imperative to stop using film. A lot of top snappers will still tell you that film still has something special, but of course it's ridiculous to use it these days.
      I think unless the analogue process becomes unfeasible in terms of cost (for example digital pedals of the future might be 69p each and on nano-chips so require no physical entity) they will endure. Everyone though tube amps would disappear but they're as popular now as they ever were. It'll be interesting to live through it all happening! Thanks for watching.

    Very informative video as always! It's the comparisons that keep bringing me back to you guys. Seeing a pedal in action against others in the same family and how it's being used. Context, context, context. How does that mini TS stack after the Tumnus?

    • @ThatPedalShow

      +Joel Brennan It's great Joel. In fact the TS Mini is good after pretty much anything if you want a middy solo boost. Can be quite a lot of mid in conjunction with the Tumnus, and because the Tumnus is a good Boost in its own right, it's worth trying the TS before as well. Cheers!

    Every four weeks or so a show with these two great guys and a bass player: yep, a 'That pedal Bass Show' is what this world needs (big time).
