  • This antique Levin parlor guitar was made in 1908. Who knows what it has been through since then. It's now completely restored (by Roger Häggström at Gammelgura) and ready for another century of making music.
    The first tune in the video is "Shine on, harvest moon" which also happens to be from 1908, it was written by Dave Stamper. You can get a free transcription in standard notation here:
    andreasbrink.s...
    Second is a bit of blues in open G tuning and finally you hear the Swedish folk song "Ack Värmeland, du sköna".

    That first piece was great. It truly paints what it feels like to walk down Chartres St. On a lazy quiet day and there's a slight echo in the street.

    it has such a distinct bright clarity to it and yes "Shine on" is somewhat melancholic but in a beautiful way reminiscent of the old black and white movies of the 1920s to 1950s when the stories were riveting (as there was no technicolor and gimmicks to distract the viewer with so the acting and the story telling had to be top class)....how well you play the guitar as each note rings out so clear...confused whether one should compliment the guitarist or the guitar maker.

      Thanks! I'll take some of the credit and give the rest to Herman Carlsson Levin for building the guitar and Roger Häggström restoring it to be better than it likely was when new.

      So um aviso, “show” em Inglês não significa o que significa em PT, em Inglês só significa tipo “mostra” ou também pode significar “exposição”. Mesmo que é uma palavra Inglês, esse significado de “legal”, “massa” et cetera é um invenção brasileiro, sobre que os gringos não sabem.

    What is the price (value) of the guitar?

    • @AndreasBrink
      @AndreasBrink  5 лет назад +20

      That's a good question. In Sweden Levin guitars are very common (most of course are not this old) so they are cheap compared to, say, a Gibson. Outside of Sweden they usually cost a lot more. I didn't pay very much for this guitar, but of course the restoration wasn't free.

      I use Newtone Heritage .012s. They are really good low tension strings. Old guitars like this are not built for much tension.
