If only other places were like that. One of my most recent jobs, every time I came up with an idea to streamline things, I was castigated for catering to lazy people. My director didn't want any lazy people on his team, so his approach was to make everything as difficult as possible.
Lean is hard work that makes work easy, if he has people using there head to make work easy, then they can do more work in the day for same effort that's more $$$ for the company.. it really is working smarter not harder.
This video was the reason why I now have a stream deck. Thanks for sharing. I have sent an email to you Ryan, hopefully you can share how the stream deck functions work.
Great repurpose and task automation of the stream deck. The stream deck is used quite often by video bloggers and social media content creators. Great video!
Gemma from Spark Improvement shared this with us today Ryan, and we are blown away. We're on our own Lean journey and this is really setting the bar high! We love it. And what an amazing team you have. Thanks so much for sharing your work. Looking forward to watching more Lean videos, The EWT gang
Ryan and team! I have shared this video numerous times with folks within my circle! This way of thinking has changed our lives and our company! After attending the 2 second Lean Summit and touring your company I can say that this team has found a cheat code and they are willing to share it with the world!
Amazing! I noticed many labels on physical items example in the file cabinet drawer "0.1.1" how does that system work? How was the windows desktop background created?
How was that Stream Deck automation for invoicing created? Does the Stream Deck activate a macro on the computer, or is the entire automation performed by the Stream Deck?
Thankyou for watching, Distraction is very much the 9th waste, a few Lean Leaders have recognised this. We have discussed this as a team and having the awareness that distraction is a waste can be a huge step in reducing it. Not everyone wears headphones, it varies per role.
Hi, thanks for watching, no we have not used VBA for email creation, Stream Deck have an inbuilt function for this, or you could install the Super Macro Plugin, we find it very useful. Feel free to email us at info@leanmadesimple.com if you'd like more detail.

Hello Ryan, Great content as always. I see that you have offered a video to show programming of Stream Deck. Is it ok if I send you an e-mail (at your info@leanmadesimple.com address)? Many Thanks
@@leanmadesimple That's a very simple elegent solution. The only downside, is you need to avoid the temptation so resort the icons on your desktop (OTH there is software for everything and there are third party solutions to address that issue, if its a problem) I've been exploring some of your other videos pm what you have done in a the shop. I think many fab shops on our side of the pond could benefit with what you show. It's very inspirational. Fwiw, this video was the the spark for a business startup idea I'm persuing with the streamdeck. I ran across this video while searching for Lean for the office environments. Up until watching this video, I didn't know about the streamdeck. I've subscribed and am looking forward to seeing more content. as well as going through your other videos. Everyone one of the videos I've watched so far as been like finding nugets of gold. Really good content.
ask them how long it took to develop all the automation code launched by the streamdecks.....then weigh it against time saved. it's not just like they bought a streamdeck, connected it, and voila...works. they probably hired a programmer/consultant to evaluate work flows and create each streamdeck function, test, deploy, get feedback, update, redeploy (at least 3 times) and then is still on standby somewhere at a monthly support cost...TANSTAFL....nothing is free or cheap. it might be lean but these are not KAIZEN methods if they take days/weeks/months to deploy. the value returned is over the longer term and the steps are not small increments.
Not quite! We got one person in our company to learn Streamdeck and then that person taught a few more people. All code is saved on a shared document for other people to see how they got to a particular improvement! AI has been very helpful recently to speed up the process of these simple codes. If understood and implemented correctly, this is definitely Kaizen and allows office staff to engage with continuous improvement, which can at times be difficult for them to see ‘value’ and ‘non value’ in their processes
@@leanmadesimple Done! Would you mind sharing how you program your stream deck; I am very interested in how you all set it up to get so much done for yourselves!
Some good points, but some of that is just solving problems that didn't exist, and as an engineer who solves real problems every single day, I have no time for people who waste company time creating fictional problems to solve and look "pro-active". There's a process to every decision I make and a part of that process is deciding whether change is going to cost more than the benefits, and it's not just cost, because every change has to go through a customer approval process. Do we need to replace a production jig at £10'000 when we're literally producing the final 1000 parts of that product series in the next 3 weeks? or do we do a temporary repair, keep production running and insert a manual inspection station for 3 weeks? The cost a alone of taking down production for 1 hour is astronomical, it's 200 people at shift allowance wages, £14.80, say £15 x 200, £3000 an hour, 2x 8 hour shifts, £48000 a day for however long it takes to get the new jig supplied and it's usually a 2 week lead time, plus fines from our customers when their production lines have no parts. BTW, filling up draw space with foam separators? utterly STUPID. I mean the time and money wasted created those??? JUST to waste storage space???? It absolutely defies all common sense and logic. I'm not trying to be mean, but if I caught someone cutting pen shaped holes in old packing foam, they'd be gone, you're not in the vegan isle of waitrose now Dorothy. These people need to spend a few years working at shop floor level, doing real work, to gain a perspective on reality. I worked 6 years in an office doing mostly data input with MSAcess, I could do the same job as 3 people in one day, because I knew all the shortcuts and I knew when pasting to the back end was going to yield greater efficiency, I was so much more productive that I was investigated on suspicion of outsourcing my job. I once put 1.5 million entries (same line of text) into a database in just 15 minutes using VBS scripting, a job that would have taken 1 person 2 years to do manually. In fact I upset a lot of people that day, because I did something they didn't understand and it wiped the floor with every "solution" they'd ever dreamed up. People don't real efficiency measures, they like pseudo efficiency measures that look great on paper. Anyway, as I said, some good points, "idiot labels" are always good for example, but some people aren't really geared towards things that don't simply involve following instructions. I bet the people working shop floor, doing the "bread and butter" work, don't get nice desks, air conditioning and creature comforts and most likely have to deal with inefficient rules and policies dreamed up by office staff, as is always the way.
If only other places were like that. One of my most recent jobs, every time I came up with an idea to streamline things, I was castigated for catering to lazy people. My director didn't want any lazy people on his team, so his approach was to make everything as difficult as possible.
