    Matt nailed it, "Individualism can be the disease of the West!" Thinking of the other person is such a big deal and it's hard to retrain. Once it's there though, it's easy to sustain because it's such a positive outlook!

    Hi Ryan I am really enjoying the podcasts. I started my lawn journey over 30 years ago so have seen the benefits of lean in many environments . I have recently started a lean project in a warehouse. I am 8 weeks into this new adventure and enjoying every minute. Just like to run something past you. Total Ownership fully understand the concept, however would like to address the owners absence from the gemba. As we are all focused on eliminating waste I think it maybe better to have deputy fully trained to carry out the tasks of ownership. This would be a totally seamless switch of ownership and the process reversed on the main owners return. The members would be informed of the deputy standing in at the morning meeting and also by reading a One Point Lesson. This displays the any changes that will have an impact on the team members. One Point Lesson Before Improvment Total Ownership member Richard of Health & Safety will be on holiday until 29/8/24 After Improvment. Total ownership is now appointed to Martin until his return to the gemba I use this tool to also display any updates to S.O.Ps I will try the proposed system and let you know what the results Keep up the good work Kind Regards to you and your team Richard .

    ask them how long it took to develop all the automation code launched by the streamdecks.....then weigh it against time saved. it's not just like they bought a streamdeck, connected it, and voila...works. they probably hired a programmer/consultant to evaluate work flows and create each streamdeck function, test, deploy, get feedback, update, redeploy (at least 3 times) and then is still on standby somewhere at a monthly support cost...TANSTAFL....nothing is free or cheap. it might be lean but these are not KAIZEN methods if they take days/weeks/months to deploy. the value returned is over the longer term and the steps are not small increments.

    • @leanmadesimple
      @leanmadesimple День назад

      Not quite! We got one person in our company to learn Streamdeck and then that person taught a few more people. All code is saved on a shared document for other people to see how they got to a particular improvement! AI has been very helpful recently to speed up the process of these simple codes. If understood and implemented correctly, this is definitely Kaizen and allows office staff to engage with continuous improvement, which can at times be difficult for them to see ‘value’ and ‘non value’ in their processes

    • @ruby2thursday

    Hey guys i love your channel/podcast. Im brand new to the lean waybof thinking. Im currently encouraging my coworkers to get on board. I feel the main reason i love the lean culture is because of the spiritual undertones in it message. The beginning of the book of james came to mind ryan when you made your last comment. James 1:2-8 HCSB [2] Consider it a great joy, my brothers, whenever you experience various trials, [3] knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. [4] But endurance must do its complete work, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing. [5] Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him. [6] But let him ask in faith without doubting. For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind. [7] That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. [8] An indecisive man is unstable in all his ways. bible.com/bible/72/jas.1.2-8.HCSB Thanks again for doing these podcast, keep up the good work!

    @leanmadesimple I agree with the other comments; I expect Ryan may want to clarify his statement at 9:02 when he said "no", that standard work should not be followed every time. - The issue here may just be the interpretation of what is meant by "follow the standard". No, they won't *_read_* it every time, but YES, they absolutely must make efforts to *_perform_* the work per the standard every time.

    This is also how my journey started I was the WO and AM Pillar at Wolverhampton Mail Centre, first person to score a point at audit in Midlands. Then the same again at Lichfield DO. It was a crying shame how they setup Professor Yamashina to get rid of him. Since then I've been in multiple industries from ammunition to Amazon to Steel and Cars. Delivery became less Lean when they brought in Transformation 2 Posties in a van.

    Excellent video gents! I have been struggling for years to get my team motivated and involved in continuous improvement. Looking forward to implementing small incremental additions. As you suggest, I will start with a basic morning meeting. This has always felt uncomfortable for me in complete silence with little to know engagements from the team. I like the idea of rotating through everyone to host each meeting to get more involvement. I would love to see an example video of one of your morning meeting’s to see how you structure them and get the team engaged. If I am ever in Ireland, I will be sure to stop in for a tour! Great job as always!

    Job Instructions resp. Job Breakdowns (from Training Within Industry) can help to find the right level of detail. Initial question in every procedure is WHAT are the important steps (creating value for the customer by a modification done right the first time), HOW to do it (what are the key points to follow in each step, there might be several ones), and equally important (but often forgotten to think about and communicate) WHY do we do it that way, ie. why do we follow that standard?

    Crowd sourced improvement: When you stopped production to fix the camera, the problem wasn't solved forever. Matt needs a marker so he knows when he is in camera. To prevent interrupting the flow of the conversation, the producer could give a signal so Matt can correct his positioning.

    Why would you create a “standard” and then not follow it? Train to the standard and enforce it. If there is a better way capture it and train to that. Rogue workers cost money.

    • @baruchmyers3393
      @baruchmyers3393 28 дней назад

      I know, I was confused about that as well. I think what he meant was that the worker should always be following the standard, but that he didn't have to be physically reading it every time he did the job if he was familiar with the standard.

  • @RobertDinTulsa
    @RobertDinTulsa 29 дней назад

    Do you have to follow the standard every time? Answer in the video → No. That's unquestionably wrong. Better ways of stating it: Do you have to ADHERE to the standard every time? Yes. Do you have to read the standard instructions or watch the standard video every time? No.

    I'm sure this will get better, but audio was a little in and out which is really obvious on my Bose headphones. Years ago I did a podcast, the guy running it insisted we wear headphones, I asked why, basically it's because you can hear yourself and then you can catch when you move away or turn your head etc. This issue is mostly noticable where Matt is nodding and talking. Not noticing it on Ryan's side right now. Also don't forget to make use of the link to website feature, at the moment it's just direct back to your channel from bio - where you already are 😅
