- 2014 Nissan Pathfinder smartkey (push to start) re-program after new battery install in the smart key fob.
None of the buttons on my remote would work after I installed a new battery . So I had to re program it

Thanks for your post. These are the steps that worked on a 2015 Pathfinder:
1. Enter car with only one key FOB in range of car and shut door
2. Lock all doors using control on driver door
3. Do NOT place your foot on the brake (you do not want the car to start)
4. Press and hold the LOCK button on the FOB and do not release it until step #9
5. Touch the START button one time with the FOB
6. After a few seconds, the INCORRECT ID message appears on the dash panel
7. After a few more seconds, an image of a FOB, >> [arrows] and a START button appears on the dash panel
8. Touch the START button again one time with the FOB
9. Release the LOCK button on the FOB
TY Steve...I rectified my FOB based on your recommendation however, it was not exact to your scenario ....The FOB would allow me to start the car but the buttons would not work just like yours....Inside the car (Pathfinder 2013) I left the door unlocked from a working FOB and brought the working FOB away and left it inside the house well away from the car. With the troubled FOB I got into the car closed the door leaving it unlocked then pressed the lock button and waited 5 seconds then bingo everything work after that.... I was back in business with a now working FOB. Crazy stuff the dealers would have charged me 150 to 200 dollars to program it.... TY Buddy!!!
God Bless you💕 I followed your instructions, it didn't work. So, I changed it slightly. As stated by another comment, I left the doors unlocked from working Faub. Placed working Faub away. Then I went back to yours... Held down the Lock button, touched the Ignition. The message flashed then off. I let go of holding down lock button, then locked the door with door lock. Then Unlocked with Faub. It worked. Tested the gate button, Yep... IT'S WORKING FINE!!! 🎉

It worked! The important part is to hold the fob close to the ingnition swich while you do the procedure!
Your video saved me $150. I had the same problem key fob wouldn't open the doors on my 2013 & 2014 pathfinder.

You are a freaking genious... I have had the second controller in a drawer because I thought it was damaged. The only one in had left all of a sudden stopped working. I stumbled upon your video and now they both work. So what I did was hold the lock button, then just turn on ignition (not the car), then wait for "Incorrect ID" to disappear from the screen, then release lock button, then place remote on ignition switch ,(touching with keyfob), the try the buttons and they all worked. Thank you again.

IT WORKED! After I held the lock button in on the FOB and pressed the car ignition button in, the display screen went completely black. But then I released the lock and pressed the lock again and FOB was like new!

Hi Steve. Thanks for your video. In our case the seller provided a second key fob that looked legit but was actually programmed for a different Nissan. Once OEM fobs are programmed for one vehicle, my understanding is that they cannot be programmed for a different vehicle. Seemed like we had no choice but to go to the dealer. But, I found a company with a mobile van who services various dealerships in my city. For a 2014 Pathfinder, cost was around $140CDN+tax to purchase a new after market key, incl.programming. OEM Nissan fob would have been $180CDN+tax. A dealership would charge around double this. The company is Car Keys Express based in Kentucky, but with reps across North America. I hope this helps someone!

This works like a charm. My Pathfinder is the platinum version and the "improper ID" never showed up so held down the lock button for a bit, took pressure off lock key, hit lock button again and my fob is now working again. Your directions were very clear and concise and it only took someone like me is totally mechanically one time for a successful conclusion. To whomever raised you, they did it right. Thanks Steve. I was really hopeful this would work when replacing the battery did not, but no dice. Another video suggests checking battery contact points...4 directly opposite the battery and 2 others right beside the battery. That also didn't work for my case. Now to find a non-dealer solution...

Im trying to do it but after I hold the lock down the incorrect id message goes away but a new screen that shows a key after i let go off lock button and press it the screen stays showing a key but key still don't work
I kept holding the lock button while I pressed the start button after that turn off the car and lock the car hear the honk then I started the car normally.and it worked!
Damn if only I found this video when I was helping someone at work program the buttons. I wasn't able to figure it out and sent her on her way.

Did alot of different things I'll try that as well soon nissan sentra 2019 saying no key detected.
Smart key when pushed and hold to the button vehicle starting every time but the remot does not function like locking unlocking,
The fob is original battery changed frequency rested wiv my vvdi key tool max.

I wonder if this will work on my 2012 Maxima? The only way I can start is by putting the fob in the slot. Unlock, lock, and trunk function stopped working.

Bro i had just had my pathfinder worked on and my remote start stopped working and this reset it one thing i noticed if you leave the key on the dash it will show no key when you are stopped or incorrect key id but i have 2 hacks for this car first being if your trunk doesnt stay open you can hold down the button on the hatch and it will reset second being if you turn your key in your door and hold it it will roll your front windows up

I’m not sure as mine was already programmed to my car previously .
It may have to be added to the vehicle by the dealer . There also might be a easy procedure but I’m not aware of it sorry

Hey Andressa so while holding the lock button I kept it close to the push start button and pressed the start button with the fob .
It even worked with the spare key I was worried because I had to leave the car unlocked!!! Thank u soooooo much for this tip!! Now I will share one with u my pathfinder is a 2013 and it happens that the break light would stay on never turn off nissan currently does not have a recall for this even though they should since it puts.your life at risk for so many reasons...anyway I brought it to the dealership and they wanted to charge over $1,000 that was only to diagnose what could be wrong with the car no guarantee they would figure out what the problem was... blah blah blah one day after looking for solutions I found this video... And this person like u helped me to fix my car (IM A WOMAN BTW SO THATS WHY I FEEL PROUD OF MY SELF KNOWING I COULD DO IT. LOL) BUT I DID ITS BEEN 2 YEARS SINCE THAT TIME AND MY BREAKLIGHT STILL WORKS.PROPERLY !!

This did not work for me. I did exactly what you and other sloggers have done. And none of the correct things happened. Nissan says it's $15o to reprogram key fob.
