What angers me with this weapon as well as the gauss weapons... is the dammed failed shots at 95% in VATS. I have a TS version, with vats hit chance and reload
It's not just two shot. There's a glitch where the weapon just doesn't hit at 95%. You have to deactivate VATS and then re-lock on the enemy and it'll hit. Happens a lot on insects for some reason.
It says a lot about the gun, if it there's no need for damage boosting prefixes. I use B/FFR plasma caster and it makes all the content just trivial. I even dropped a lot of damage cards just for QoL stuff and it still kills anything in 1-2 shots.
I like running around with the Cold Shoulder but once in a while the enemies are just too far away. So I pull out my 2 shot Plasma caster and fire away... and it still takes down Scorch beasts quickly even with my shot gunner build. It's a nice long distance gun option when the Cold Shoulder can't be used and comes in real handy at Eviction Notice.
I have a Quad 50% Vats hit can't remember the 3rd star , but as you said Turtle is a 1 or 2 shot killer. As long as we can farm ammo in daily ops and expeditions it will always give you more ammo than you use .
My favorite daily driver plasma caster is the Instigating +50 VATS hit chance. For bosses, I will switch over to my bloodied +50 Crit damage version often times although the instigating still does quite well.

My main building is a bloodied stealth heavy gunner with a bloodied vats rolled plasma caster. Little bit of a pain with the new bloodied "nerf" to remember to get health lower. With a few chems I can reliably hit around 2000 damage. With unyielding secret service armor im barely ever detected. Love the plasma caster but my only gripe is the damage against bosses. It says around 300 for earl and 600 for sbq but their health bars don't seem to match the numbers imo. Still an awesome build
I rolled myself that same Stalker’s weapon the other day. Created a VATS Heavy Gunner build based on your recent videos because I did. Might be one of the few weapons the Stalker’s legendary effect has a purpose!
I've been using plasma caster almost exclusively for months. Full health, no PA build. Quad for daily use and AA for the big bosses. Both have vats hit chance and less AP cost. I never feel under-powered and hold my own in any public event. Definitely no better weapon for lazy play style.
Crit damage is best for bosses. Specially on high damage weapons...crit uses that to negate resistance..if get crit every 1-2 shots with it u be doing rediculous damage.
Played since beta, after a couple years out of the game, I came back and this weapons is one of the most enjoyable to play. I'm using it with the universal build.
I knew the Plasma Caster was a vats beast thanks to your first video covering it. On my second roll I rolled a B 50vhc 25lvc it’s been my driver ever since. Absolute beast, 1-shots everything with a headshot which is easy with the vhc. During the Legacy days I would clear all the scorched myself at Line in the Sand, while the Legacy users just wasted their ammo and didn’t get any xp.
Hey I found a floating truck on a island in mid air. It has an explosive crate and that’s it . It’s kind of strange but I bet it great for a camp because it’s in midair.
Apparently my first and best craft of the plasma caster was a vampire, rapid with plus 1 perception. Speed demon mutation already covers the reload speed.
Since I got this wonder weapon it has become my primary weapon to use in PA, plus the ammo farm comes in handy to use alongside the plasma flamethrower
My levelling build is a low-health, non-PA heavy gunner using a plasma caster. At 20% health with Strange in Numbers active, I get one shot kills in West Tek, no food buffs or Adrenaline needed. I have all the HG perks, Bloody Mess and rocking an Instigating 50% VHC Plasma Caster. If I don't have mutated teammates, it takes 1 or 2 kills with rank 1 Adrenaline to get back to 1 shot kills.
My riflemen has a heavy build loadout, and I have only rolled out one plasma caster, was disappointed at first when I saw it was a Hunter’s but it has a Ffr/critical fill that still make it a great one to use!

I play it on a non power armor because more action point with Unyelding armor bloodied build and 25% fire rate is insane on plasma caster mine is anti Armor and 25% fire rate (only 2 stars but powerfull enough to destroy boss and every other mob.
Full health, I am running a 1 star Instigating with just the sniper barrel. I have an irrational ammo shortage concerns switching to ultracite. You can get ammo from Daily Ops and Expeditions. I was kinda low until the group I was in last night ran three Expeditions back to back. 😎 Grabbed another chainsaw that I was able to roll into a vamp with weight reduction. 🤪Should try to reroll the plasma caster as well once I get more modules. Just hope I don't roll to many Two Shot with the changes coming. Do love one shotting Sentry Bots in their cores for 4-5k damage, non critical. Pretty funny. Used to get zeroed by them at lower levels so fun to just pop them time to time.
actually you dont nead to exit & enter back in vats.. but it's annoying to w8 those fev extra second not shooting to w8 for it to readjust to the target :P like you see the shoot go 'wrong way" just w8 like 3 seconds not shooting again & it will adjust correctly :P especially if you want to still have the effect of bonus dmg from shooting next targets if card equipped or alike.
I'd say it's better to keep that one for trash mobs and craft a second one. Roll for damage stars on a second one just for boss events and you'll be that one dude who melts boss' hp bar.
can you make a video one wtf im supposed to be doing haha. im a level 110 returning for the first time since like 2021 and i dont know what im supposed to be doing. like how to get the SS armor, or what how to get/spend gold bullion or legendary cores and stuff. what activities should I be doing? Usually if I hop on, i try to do a DO (can't solo them, so all depends if I get a team), and ill work on dailies and MSQ or Side Quests. not always on long enough to do all my dailies, but i'll do some of the easy and quick ones. and ill try and join mutated events. but yea, not sure what other end game stuff i should be working on for the currencies I listed above.
Why prime over calibrated reciever? Calibrated reciever gives +100% crit damage and with 19 luck, crit savvy and better criticals you will crit every 3rd shot and if you get vats crit charge on weapon and 23 luck you crit every other shot. Both viable in power armor which with stabalized gived armor penetration. With this i was criting earl for 1600 to 2000 damage every 3rd shot depending on buffs and food.

The prime receiver gives bonus damage to scorch and a base weapon damage boost. Also he is a bloodied build. On top of that you.can run adrenaline that gives a 60% buff.
@@Chromedskulls I'm also bloodied build, I tried both: Caster and Fixer. While I'm utilizing mainly crits with auto changing targets in Vats, my crits with Caster were 1000+ and crits with Fixer were 500-600 each bullet. So I dunno, Caster is using less ammo tho...
For Plasma Casters, I have a Bloodied, a Junkie's, a Quad, and an Instigating. The Instigating prefix with the PC is DEVASTATING. Easy 1-shot kills for sure.
So far i found that the 50% hit chance is mandatory, atleast for me it has been. Although that issue you pointed out about if it misses in vats, exit and try again to fix, i havent heard that before, so that might have been my issue. The one you have looks like a god roll to me :)
I think you need to do a video on 50% VATS hit chance vs the 'meta' secondaries. I think you'll find it's a lot more useful in most situations. They're the only weapons I use.
Of course you put this video out a day after I roll a V/40P/+1STR chainsaw. Now I have to roll a PC. 😂🤣Awesome video per usual! Great to know with the right build, the prefix is really optional as long as the other 1 or ideally 2 drop. I needed a way to spend all these modules after the scrip weekend anyhow.
I just got this today. A lot of people don't play in P.A. and don't use Prime anything b/c to the grind required. We don't have time to farm or play for hours and hours and hours. A lot of us play full health only and no GIMP characters. I would help if you added solo "Full Health, Non-P.A., non-Prime" information for us. We've no interest in doing the most damage but in doing MORE and staying alive.
50% more hit chance is such a good secondary roll very underrated, i don't think u even need stalker with that tbh could go with instigating bloodied or aa
has this been nerfed?. i have bought this today, (just after update), useing prime ect. i have every heavy gunner perk i can think of incl stablized. and the new energy buff from science cards. but im only getting 350 dmg in vats headshot and about 250 out of vats

I know it's kinda late but you can craft Rad ant lager (Biv recipe) it gives you +50 carry weight for two minutes, when worn off you get -50 carry weight for two minutes (enough time to go to your stash/vendor) also you can combine it with carry weight booster for +100 carry weight.
This is no effective like is the 2shots bro.. We tested it. I destroy a scoarched with 5-7 shots, the bloodied loses the count of damages and it need 9-12 shots.. But don't scriap it because there will be an update for weapons damages
I’m happy to see someone showing the positive benefits of stalkers, beyond “scrip”. 😂 I love stalkers as a farmer weapon for none commando weapons to really push up the hit chance.
Honestly dude, I had a two star 50 crit dmg that I scripped in favor of my anti-armor 25 aim damage 25 less AP version. Anti armor did more damage on anything with actual resistances.
Am I missing something? I got the plasma caster and gotta say I'm not thrilled. You all talk about bringing down scorch beasts takes alot of hits to take down a gulper???

The quad vats hit chance less vats cost is really fun to play with plus it comes equipped with 80 rounds

This is the one I use as well it's only a two-star but for normal enemies it demolishes

Plasma caster for soloing the event at the asylum. Have soloed that event so many times using just the plasma caster.

Is it really gonna out preform the AA ffr or the B ffr versions mr turtle? Ive been debating on this weapon a while.
Would be fun to run this as your main. Then, the enclave flamer as your secondary-
AA ffr is The best i tried every stats on plasma caster and AA ffr always perform better especially on boss figth.

does less ap cost affect the drain on your fusion cores?
You mean on other weapons? This one uses plasma cartridges but I highly doubt it your Fusion core is considered the ammo in the weapon not AP

it was nerfed in the patch, science perks do not work with heavy guns

Simple Fern tea , adds 10 str which adds carry weight oh and steeped fern flower tea easy to make

that primed mod damage does not apply to anything thing else but the scorched!!

I’m happy to see someone showing the positive benefits of stalkers, beyond “scrip”. 😂 I love stalkers as a farmer weapon for none commando weapons to really push up the hit chance.

I'm gunna miss my twoshot plasma caster
Honestly dude, I had a two star 50 crit dmg that I scripped in favor of my anti-armor 25 aim damage 25 less AP version. Anti armor did more damage on anything with actual resistances.
My prefer is still Instigatin combo with nuka granade

i switched from my quad gauss rifle to plasma caster and have a few different ones, I'll not go back 👍

Am I missing something? I got the plasma caster and gotta say I'm not thrilled. You all talk about bringing down scorch beasts takes alot of hits to take down a gulper???
must be your build, are you using it in vats?
